1And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter and James and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves, and was transfigured before them.Đức Giê-su còn nói với họ: “Tôi bảo thật các người: trong số những người có mặt ở đây, có những kẻ sẽ không phải nếm sự chết, trước khi thấy Triều Đại Thiên Chúa đến, đầy uy lực.”Mt 17,1-8; Lc 9,28-36καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ⸂τῶν ὧδε⸃ ἑστηκότων οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐληλυθυῖαν ἐν δυνάμει. He said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste death until they see God’s Kingdom come with power.”
2And his garments became shining and exceeding white as snow, so as no fuller upon earth can make white.Sáu ngày sau, Đức Giê-su đem các ông Phê-rô, Gia-cô-bê và Gio-an đi theo mình. After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and brought them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves, and he was changed into another form in front of them.
3And there appeared to them Elias with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.Y phục Người trở nên rực rỡ, trắng tinh, không có thợ nào ở trần gian giặt trắng được như vậy.καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ⸀ἐγένετο στίλβοντα λευκὰ ⸀λίαν οἷα γναφεὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ δύναται ⸀οὕτως λευκᾶναι. His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
4And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.Và ba môn đệ thấy ông Ê-li-a cùng ông Mô-sê hiện ra đàm đạo với Đức Giê-su.καὶ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας σὺν Μωϋσεῖ, καὶ ἦσαν συλλαλοῦντες τῷ Ἰησοῦ. Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.
5For he knew not what he said: for they were struck with fear.Bấy giờ, ông Phê-rô thưa với Đức Giê-su rằng: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con ở đây, thật là hay! Chúng con xin dựng ba cái lều, một cho Thầy, một cho ông Mô-sê, và một cho ông Ê-li-a.”καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Ῥαββί, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι, καὶ ποιήσωμεν ⸂τρεῖς σκηνάς⸃, σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν. Peter answered Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
6And there was a cloud overshadowing them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying: This is my most beloved son; hear ye him.Thật ra, ông không biết phải nói gì, vì các ông kinh hoàng.οὐ γὰρ ᾔδει τί ⸀ἀποκριθῇ, ⸂ἔκφοβοι γὰρ ἐγένοντο⸃.Et facta est nubes obumbrans eos: et venit vox de nube, dicens: Hic est Filius meus carissimus: audite illum. For he didn’t know what to say, for they were very afraid.
7And immediately looking about, they saw no man any more, but Jesus only with them.Bỗng có một đám mây bao phủ các ông. A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
8And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them not to tell any man what things they had seen, till the Son of man shall be risen again from the dead.Các ông chợt nhìn quanh, thì không thấy ai nữa, chỉ còn Đức Giê-su với các ông mà thôi.Mt 17,9-12καὶ ἐξάπινα περιβλεψάμενοι οὐκέτι οὐδένα εἶδον ⸂ἀλλὰ τὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν⸃.Et descendentibus illis de monte, præcepit illis ne cuiquam quæ vidissent, narrarent: nisi cum Filius hominis a mortuis resurrexerit.Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Jesus only.
9And they kept the word to themselves; questioning together what that should mean, when he shall be risen from the dead.Ở trên núi xuống, Đức Giê-su truyền cho các ông không được kể lại cho ai nghe những điều vừa thấy, trước khi Con Người từ cõi chết sống lại.⸂Καὶ καταβαινόντων⸃ αὐτῶν ⸀ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ ⸂ἃ εἶδον διηγήσωνται⸃, εἰ μὴ ὅταν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ. As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
10And they asked him, saying: Why then do the Pharisees and scribes say that Elias must come first?Các ông tuân lệnh đó, nhưng vẫn bàn hỏi nhau xem câu “từ cõi chết sống lại” nghĩa là gì.καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι.Et interrogabant eum, dicentes: Quid ergo dicunt pharisæi et scribæ, quia Eliam oportet venire primum? They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the “rising from the dead” meant.
11Who answering, said to them: Elias, when he shall come first, shall restore all things; and as it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be despised.Các ông hỏi Đức Giê-su: “Tại sao các kinh sư lại nói ông Ê-li-a phải đến trước?”καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Ὅτι λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον;Qui respondens, ait illis: Elias cum venerit primo, restituet omnia: et quomodo scriptum est in Filium hominis, ut multa patiatur et contemnatur. They asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
12But I say to you, that Elias also is come, (and they have done to him whatsoever they would,) as it is written of him. Vậy sao có lời chép rằng Con Người phải chịu nhiều đau khổ và bị khinh chê?ὁ δὲ ⸀ἔφη αὐτοῖς· Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ⸀ἀποκαθιστάνει πάντα, καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ⸀ἐξουδενηθῇ;Sed dico vobis quia et Elias venit (et fecerunt illi quæcumque voluerunt) sicut scriptum est de eo.He said to them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?
13And coming to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes disputing with them.Nhưng Thầy nói cho anh em biết: ông Ê-li-a đã đến, và họ đã xử với ông theo ý họ muốn, như Sách Thánh đã chép về ông.”Mt 17,14-21; Lc 9,37-43aἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν, καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ⸀ἤθελον, καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπ’ αὐτόν. But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him.”
14And presently all the people seeing Jesus, were astonished and struck with fear; and running to him, they saluted him. Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.
15And he asked them: What do you question about among you?Thấy Đức Giê-su, lập tức tất cả đám đông kinh ngạc. Et interrogavit eos: Quid inter vos conquiritis?Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, greeted him.
16And one of the multitude, answering, said: Master, I have brought my son to thee, having a dumb spirit.Người hỏi các môn đệ: “Anh em tranh luận gì với họ thế?”καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν ⸀αὐτούς· Τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς ⸀αὑτούς;Et respondens unus de turba, dixit: Magister, attuli filium meum ad te habentem spiritum mutum:He asked the scribes, “What are you asking them?”
17Who, wheresoever he taketh him, dasheth him, and he foameth, and gnasheth with the teeth, and pineth away; and I spoke to thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not.Một người trong đám đông trả lời: “Thưa Thầy, tôi đã đem con trai tôi lại cùng Thầy; cháu bị quỷ câm ám.καὶ ⸂ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου⸃· Διδάσκαλε, ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ, ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον·qui ubicumque eum apprehenderit, allidit illum, et spumat, et stridet dentibus, et arescit: et dixi discipulis tuis ut ejicerent illum, et non potuerunt.One of the multitude answered, “Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;
18Who answering them, said: O incredulous generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.Bất cứ ở đâu, hễ quỷ nhập vào là vật cháu xuống. Qui respondens eis, dixit: O generatio incredula, quamdiu apud vos ero? quamdiu vos patiar? afferte illum ad me.and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”
19And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the spirit troubled him; and being thrown down upon the ground, he rolled about foaming. He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”
20And he asked his father: How long time is it since this hath happened unto him? But he said: From his infancy:Người ta đem nó lại cho Người. Vừa thấy Người, quỷ liền lay nó thật mạnh, nó ngã xuống đất, lăn lộn, sùi cả bọt mép.καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν. At ille ait: Ab infantia:They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.
21And oftentimes hath he cast him into the fire and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do any thing, help us, having compassion on us.Người hỏi cha nó: “Cháu bị như thế từ bao lâu rồi?” Ông ấy đáp: “Thưa từ thuở bé.καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ· Πόσος χρόνος ἐστὶν ὡς τοῦτο γέγονεν αὐτῷ; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· ⸀Ἐκ παιδιόθεν·et frequenter eum in ignem, et in aquas misit ut eum perderet: sed si quid potes, adjuva nos, misertus nostri. He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has been happening to him?” He said, “From childhood.
22And Jesus saith to him: If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23And immediately the father of the boy crying out, with tears said: I do believe, Lord: help my unbelief.Đức Giê-su nói với ông ta: “Sao lại nói: nếu Thầy có thể? Mọi sự đều có thể đối với người tin.”ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Τὸ Εἰ ⸀δύνῃ, πάντα δυνατὰ τῷ πιστεύοντι.Et continuo exclamans pater pueri, cum lacrimis aiebat: Credo, Domine; adjuva incredulitatem meam.Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24And when Jesus saw the multitude running together, he threatened the unclean spirit, saying to him: Deaf and dumb spirit, I command thee, go out of him; and enter not any more into him.Lập tức, cha đứa bé kêu lên: “Tôi tin! Nhưng xin Thầy giúp lòng tin yếu kém của tôi!”⸀εὐθὺς κράξας ὁ πατὴρ τοῦ ⸀παιδίου ἔλεγεν· ⸀Πιστεύω· βοήθει μου τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ.Et cum videret Jesus concurrentem turbam, comminatus est spiritui immundo, dicens illi: Surde et mute spiritus, ego præcipio tibi, exi ab eo: et amplius ne introëas in eum.Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”
25And crying out, and greatly tearing him, he went out of him, and he became as dead, so that many said: He is dead. When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”
26But Jesus taking him by the hand, lifted him up; and he arose.Quỷ thét lên, lay nó thật mạnh, rồi ra khỏi. After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”
27And when he was come into the house, his disciples secretly asked him: Why could not we cast him out? But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.
28And he said to them: This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.Khi Người vào nhà, các môn đệ mới hỏi riêng Người: “Tại sao chúng con đây lại không trừ nổi tên quỷ ấy?”καὶ ⸂εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ⸃ εἰς οἶκον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂κατ’ ἰδίαν ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν⸃· Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό;Et dixit illis: Hoc genus in nullo potest exire, nisi in oratione et jejunio. When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”
29And departing from thence, they passed through Galilee, and he would not that any man should know it.Người đáp: “Giống quỷ ấy, chỉ có cầu nguyện mới trừ được thôi.”Mt 17,22-23; Lc 9,43b-45καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τοῦτο τὸ γένος ἐν οὐδενὶ δύναται ἐξελθεῖν εἰ μὴ ἐν ⸀προσευχῇ. He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting.”
30And he taught his disciple, and said to them: The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise again the third day.Đức Giê-su và các môn đệ ra khỏi đó, đi băng qua miền Ga-li-lê. Nhưng Đức Giê-su không muốn cho ai biết,Κἀκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντες ⸀παρεπορεύοντο διὰ τῆς Γαλιλαίας, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἵνα τις γνοῖ·Docebat autem discipulos suos, et dicebat illis: Quoniam Filius hominis tradetur in manus hominum, et occident eum, et occisus tertia die resurget. They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it,
31But they understood not the word, and they were afraid to ask him.vì Người đang dạy các môn đệ rằng: “Con Người sẽ bị nộp vào tay người đời, họ sẽ giết chết Người, và ba ngày sau khi bị giết chết, Người sẽ sống lại.”ἐδίδασκεν γὰρ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων, καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀποκτανθεὶς ⸂μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας⸃ ἀναστήσεται.At illi ignorabant verbum: et timebant interrogare eum.for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, “The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again.”
32And they came to Capharnaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them: What did you treat of in the way? But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33But they held their peace, for in the way they had disputed among themselves, which of them should be the greatest.Sau đó, Đức Giê-su và các môn đệ đến thành Ca-phác-na-um. Khi về tới nhà, Đức Giê-su hỏi các ông: “Dọc đường, anh em đã bàn tán điều gì vậy?”Καὶ ⸀ἦλθον εἰς Καφαρναούμ. καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ γενόμενος ἐπηρώτα αὐτούς· Τί ἐν τῇ ⸀ὁδῷ διελογίζεσθε;At illi tacebant: siquidem in via inter se disputaverunt: quis eorum major esset. He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”
34And sitting down, he called the twelve, and saith to them: If any man desire to be first, he shall be the last of all, and the minister of all.Các ông làm thinh, vì khi đi đường, các ông đã cãi nhau xem ai là người lớn hơn cả.οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων, πρὸς ἀλλήλους γὰρ διελέχθησαν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τίς μείζων. But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.
35And taking a child, he set him in the midst of them. Whom when he had embraced, he saith to them:Rồi Đức Giê-su ngồi xuống, gọi Nhóm Mười Hai lại mà nói: “Ai muốn làm người đứng đầu, thì phải làm người rốt hết, và làm người phục vụ mọi người.”καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Εἴ τις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος καὶ πάντων διάκονος.Et accipiens puerum, statuit eum in medio eorum: quem cum complexus esset, ait illis:He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
36Whosoever shall receive one such child as this in my name, receiveth me. And whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.Kế đó, Người đem một em nhỏ đặt vào giữa các ông, rồi ôm lấy nó và nói:καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς·Quisquis unum ex hujusmodi pueris receperit in nomine meo, me recipit: et quicumque me susceperit, non me suscipit, sed eum qui misit me.He took a little child and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,
37John answered him, saying: Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, who followeth not us, and we forbade him.“Ai tiếp đón một em nhỏ như em này vì danh Thầy, là tiếp đón chính Thầy; và ai tiếp đón Thầy, thì không phải là tiếp đón Thầy, nhưng là tiếp đón Đấng đã sai Thầy.”Lc 9,49-50Ὃς ⸀ἂν ἓν τῶν τοιούτων παιδίων δέξηται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου, ἐμὲ δέχεται· καὶ ὃς ⸁ἂν ἐμὲ ⸀δέχηται, οὐκ ἐμὲ δέχεται ἀλλὰ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με.Respondit illi Joannes, dicens: Magister, vidimus quemdam in nomine tuo ejicientem dæmonia, qui non sequitur nos, et prohibuimus eum.“Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, doesn’t receive me, but him who sent me.”
38But Jesus said: Do not forbid him. For there is no man that doth a miracle in my name, and can soon speak ill of me.Ông Gio-an nói với Đức Giê-su: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con thấy có người lấy danh Thầy mà trừ quỷ. Chúng con đã cố ngăn cản, vì người ấy không theo chúng ta.”⸂Ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης⸃· Διδάσκαλε, εἴδομέν τινα ⸀ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια, ⸂καὶ ἐκωλύομεν αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐκ ἠκολούθει ἡμῖν⸃.Jesus autem ait: Nolite prohibere eum: nemo est enim qui faciat virtutem in nomine meo, et possit cito male loqui de me:John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone who doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name; and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us.”
39For he that is not against you, is for you.Đức Giê-su bảo: “Đừng ngăn cản người ta, vì không ai lấy danh nghĩa Thầy mà làm phép lạ, rồi ngay sau đó lại có thể nói xấu về Thầy.ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Μὴ κωλύετε αὐτόν, οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐστιν ὃς ποιήσει δύναμιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ δυνήσεται ταχὺ κακολογῆσαί με·qui enim non est adversum vos, pro vobis est.But Jesus said, “Don’t forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name and be able quickly to speak evil of me.
40For whosoever shall give you to drink a cup of water in my name, because you belong to Christ: amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.Quả thật, ai không chống lại chúng ta là ủng hộ chúng ta.ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθ’ ⸂ἡμῶν, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν⸃ ἐστιν.Quisquis enim potum dederit vobis calicem aquæ in nomine meo, quia Christi estis: amen dico vobis, non perdet mercedem suam. For whoever is not against us is on our side.
41And whosoever shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me; it were better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck, and he were cast into the sea.“Ai cho anh em uống một chén nước vì lẽ anh em thuộc về Đấng Ki-tô, thì Thầy bảo thật anh em, người đó sẽ không mất phần thưởng đâu.Mt 18,6-9; Lc 17,1-2Ὃς γὰρ ἂν ποτίσῃ ὑμᾶς ποτήριον ὕδατος ἐν ⸀ὀνόματι ὅτι χριστοῦ ἐστε, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ⸀ὅτι οὐ μὴ ⸀ἀπολέσῃ τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ.Et quisquis scandalizaverit unum ex his pusillis credentibus in me: bonum est ei magis si circumdaretur mola asinaria collo ejus, et in mare mitteretur. For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.
42And if thy hand scandalize thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life, maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into unquenchable fire:“Ai làm cớ cho một trong những kẻ bé mọn đang tin đây phải sa ngã, thì thà buộc cối đá lớn vào cổ nó mà ném xuống biển còn hơn.Καὶ ὃς ⸀ἂν σκανδαλίσῃ ἕνα τῶν μικρῶν ⸀τούτων τῶν πιστευόντων ⸂εἰς ἐμέ⸃, καλόν ἐστιν αὐτῷ μᾶλλον εἰ περίκειται ⸂μύλος ὀνικὸς⸃ περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ βέβληται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν.Et si scandalizaverit te manus tua, abscide illam: bonum est tibi debilem introire in vitam, quam duas manus habentem ire in gehennam, in ignem inextinguibilem,“Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.
43Where there worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished.Nếu tay anh làm cớ cho anh sa ngã, thì chặt nó đi; thà cụt một tay mà được vào cõi sống còn hơn là có đủ hai tay mà phải sa hoả ngục, phải vào lửa không hề tắt. If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire,
44And if thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter lame into life everlasting, than having two feet, to be cast into the hell of unquenchable fire:]—Et si pes tuus te scandalizat, amputa illum: bonum est tibi claudum introire in vitam æternam, quam duos pedes habentem mitti in gehennam ignis inextinguibilis,‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
45Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished.Nếu chân anh làm cớ cho anh sa ngã, thì chặt nó đi; thà cụt một chân mà được vào cõi sống còn hơn là có đủ hai chân mà bị ném vào hoả ngục. If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that will never be quenched—
47Where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished.Nếu mắt anh làm cớ cho anh sa ngã, thì móc nó đi; thà chột mắt mà được vào Nước Thiên Chúa còn hơn là có đủ hai mắt mà bị ném vào hoả ngục,καὶ ἐὰν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε, ἔκβαλε αὐτόν· καλόν ⸀σέ ἐστιν μονόφθαλμον εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ἢ δύο ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς ⸀τὴν ⸀γέενναν,ubi vermis eorum non moritur, et ignis non extinguitur. If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out. It is better for you to enter into God’s Kingdom with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire,
46And if thy eye scandalize thee, pluck it out. It is better for thee with one eye to enter into the kingdom of God, than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire:]—Quod si oculus tuus scandalizat te, ejice eum: bonum est tibi luscum introire in regnum Dei, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis,‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
48For every one shall be salted with fire: and every victim shall be salted with salt.nơi giòi bọ không hề chết và lửa không hề tắt.ὅπου ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται.Omnis enim igne salietur, et omnis victima sale salietur.‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’
49Salt is good. But if the salt became unsavoury; wherewith will you season it? Have salt in you, and have peace among you. For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt.
50—Muối là cái gì tốt. Nhưng muối mà hết mặn, thì anh em sẽ lấy gì ướp cho mặn lại? Anh em hãy giữ muối trong lòng anh em, và sống hoà thuận với nhau.”καλὸν τὸ ἅλας· ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας ἄναλον γένηται, ἐν τίνι αὐτὸ ἀρτύσετε; ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ⸀ἅλα, καὶ εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἀλλήλοις.—Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
