Then calling together the twelve apostles, he gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.Đức Giê-su tập họp Nhóm Mười Hai lại, ban cho các ông năng lực và quyền phép để trừ mọi thứ quỷ và chữa các bệnh tật.Συγκαλεσάμενος δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς δύναμιν καὶ ἐξουσίαν ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ δαιμόνια καὶ νόσους θεραπεύειν,Convocatis autem duodecim Apostolis, dedit illis virtutem et potestatem super omnia dæmonia, et ut languores curarent. He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. He sent them out to preach God’s Kingdom and to heal the sick.
And he said to them: Take nothing for your journey; neither staff, nor scrip, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats. He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey—no staffs, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money. Don’t have two tunics each.
And whatsoever house you shall enter into, abide there, and depart not from thence. Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there.
And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off even the dust of your feet, for a testimony against them.Hễ người ta không đón tiếp anh em, thì khi ra khỏi thành, anh em hãy giũ bụi chân để tỏ ý phản đối họ.”καὶ ὅσοι ⸀ἂν μὴ ⸀δέχωνται ὑμᾶς, ἐξερχόμενοι ἀπὸ τῆς πόλεως ⸀ἐκείνης τὸν κονιορτὸν ἀπὸ τῶν ποδῶν ὑμῶν ⸀ἀποτινάσσετε εἰς μαρτύριον ἐπ’ αὐτούς. As many as don’t receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.”
And going out, they went about through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.Các ông ra đi, rảo qua các làng mạc loan báo Tin Mừng và chữa bệnh khắp nơi. They departed and went throughout the villages, preaching the Good News and healing everywhere.
Now Herod, the tetrarch, heard of all things that were done by him; and he was in a doubt, because it was saidTiểu vương Hê-rô-đê nghe biết tất cả những gì đã xảy ra, thì phân vân lắm. Thật vậy, có kẻ nói: “Đó là ông Gio-an từ cõi chết trỗi dậy.”Ἤκουσεν δὲ Ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὰ ⸀γινόμενα πάντα, καὶ διηπόρει διὰ τὸ λέγεσθαι ὑπό τινων ὅτι Ἰωάννης ⸀ἠγέρθη ἐκ νεκρῶν,Audivit autem Herodes tetrarcha omnia quæ fiebant ab eo, et hæsitabat eo quod dicereturNow Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him; and he was very perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead,
By some, that John was risen from the dead: but by other some, that Elias had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.Kẻ khác nói: “Ông Ê-li-a xuất hiện đấy!” Kẻ khác nữa lại nói: “Đó là một ngôn sứ thời xưa sống lại.”ὑπό τινων δὲ ὅτι Ἠλίας ἐφάνη, ἄλλων δὲ ὅτι προφήτης ⸀τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη.a quibusdam: Quia Joannes surrexit a mortuis: a quibusdam vero: Quia Elias apparuit: ab aliis autem: Quia propheta unus de antiquis surrexit.and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.
And Herod said: John I have beheaded; but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.Còn vua Hê-rô-đê thì nói: “Ông Gio-an, chính ta đã chém đầu rồi! Herod said, “I beheaded John, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” He sought to see him.
And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all they had done. And taking them, he went aside into a desert place, apart, which belongeth to Bethsaida.Các Tông Đồ trở về thuật lại cho Đức Giê-su những việc các ông đã làm. Người đem các ông đi riêng với mình, lui về thành kia gọi là Bết-xai-đa.Καὶ ὑποστρέψαντες οἱ ἀπόστολοι διηγήσαντο αὐτῷ ὅσα ἐποίησαν. καὶ παραλαβὼν αὐτοὺς ὑπεχώρησεν κατ’ ἰδίαν εἰς ⸂πόλιν καλουμένην Βηθσαϊδά⸃.Et reversi Apostoli, narraverunt illi quæcumque fecerunt: et assumptis illis secessit seorsum in locum desertum, qui est Bethsaidæ.The apostles, when they had returned, told him what things they had done. He took them and withdrew apart to a desert region of a city called Bethsaida.
Which when the people knew, they followed him; and he received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and healed them who had need of healing.Đám đông dân chúng biết thế, liền đi theo Người. Người tiếp đón họ, nói với họ về Nước Thiên Chúa và chữa lành những ai cần được chữa.οἱ δὲ ὄχλοι γνόντες ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ. But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them of God’s Kingdom, and he cured those who needed healing.
Now the day began to decline. And the twelve came and said to him: Send away the multitude, that going into the towns and villages round about, they may lodge and get victuals; for we are here in a desert place.Ngày đã bắt đầu tàn. The day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and farms and lodge and get food, for we are here in a deserted place.”
But he said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said: We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; unless perhaps we should go and buy food for all this multitude.Đức Giê-su bảo: “Chính anh em hãy cho họ ăn.” Các ông đáp: “Chúng con chỉ có vỏn vẹn năm cái bánh và hai con cá, trừ phi chính chúng con phải đi mua thức ăn cho cả đám dân này.”εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· Δότε αὐτοῖς ⸂ὑμεῖς φαγεῖν⸃. But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we should go and buy food for all these people.”
Now there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples: Make them sit down by fifties in a company.Quả thật có tới chừng năm ngàn đàn ông. Đức Giê-su nói với các môn đệ: “Anh em hãy bảo họ ngồi thành từng nhóm khoảng năm mươi người một.”ἦσαν γὰρ ὡσεὶ ἄνδρες πεντακισχίλιοι. For they were about five thousand men. He said to his disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”
And they did so; and made them all sit down.Các môn đệ làm y như vậy, và bảo mọi người ngồi xuống.καὶ ἐποίησαν οὕτως καὶ ⸀κατέκλιναν ἅπαντας.Et ita fecerunt: et discumbere fecerunt omnes. They did so, and made them all sit down.
And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed them; and he broke, and distributed to his disciples, to set before the multitude.Bấy giờ Đức Giê-su cầm lấy năm cái bánh và hai con cá, ngước mắt lên trời, dâng lời chúc tụng, bẻ ra và trao cho môn đệ để các ông dọn ra cho đám đông.λαβὼν δὲ τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους καὶ τοὺς δύο ἰχθύας ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ κατέκλασεν καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς ⸀παραθεῖναι τῷ ὄχλῳ. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky, he blessed them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.
And they did all eat, and were filled. And there were taken up of fragments that remained to them, twelve baskets.Mọi người đều ăn, và ai nấy được no nê. They ate and were all filled. They gathered up twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over.
And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples also were with him: and he asked them, saying: Whom do the people say that I am?Hôm ấy, Đức Giê-su cầu nguyện một mình. Các môn đệ cũng ở đó với Người, và Người hỏi các ông rằng: “Dân chúng nói Thầy là ai?”Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν προσευχόμενον κατὰ μόνας συνῆσαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί, καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς λέγων· Τίνα με ⸂οἱ ὄχλοι λέγουσιν⸃ εἶναι;Et factum est cum solus esset orans, erant cum illo et discipuli: et interrogavit illos, dicens: Quem me dicunt esse turbæ?As he was praying alone, the disciples were near him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
But they answered, and said: John the Baptist; but some say Elias; and others say that one of the former prophets is risen again.Các ông thưa: “Họ bảo Thầy là ông Gio-an Tẩy Giả, nhưng có kẻ thì bảo là ông Ê-li-a, kẻ khác lại cho là một trong các ngôn sứ thời xưa đã sống lại.”οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν· Ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, ἄλλοι δὲ Ἠλίαν, ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι προφήτης τις τῶν ἀρχαίων ἀνέστη. They answered, “‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
And he said to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answering, said: The Christ of God.Người lại hỏi: “Còn anh em, anh em bảo Thầy là ai?” Respondens Simon Petrus, dixit: Christum Dei.He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
But he strictly charging them, commanded they should tell this to no man.Nhưng Người nghiêm giọng truyền các ông không được nói điều ấy với ai.Mt 16,21; Mc 8,31Ὁ δὲ ἐπιτιμήσας αὐτοῖς παρήγγειλεν μηδενὶ ⸀λέγειν τοῦτο,At ille increpans illos, præcepit ne cui dicerent hoc,But he warned them and commanded them to tell this to no one,
Saying: The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the ancients and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day rise again.Người còn nói: “Con Người phải chịu đau khổ nhiều, bị các kỳ mục, thượng tế cùng kinh sư loại bỏ, bị giết chết, và ngày thứ ba sẽ trỗi dậy.”Mt 16,24-27; Mc 8,34-38εἰπὼν ὅτι Δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ⸀ἐγερθῆναι.dicens: Quia oportet Filium hominis multa pati, et reprobari a senioribus, et principibus sacerdotum, et scribis, et occidi, et tertia die resurgere.saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”
And he said to all: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.Rồi Đức Giê-su nói với mọi người: “Ai muốn theo tôi, phải từ bỏ chính mình, vác thập giá mình hằng ngày mà theo.Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς πάντας· Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ⸂ἔρχεσθαι, ἀρνησάσθω⸃ ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ ⸂καθ’ ἡμέραν⸃, καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.Dicebat autem ad omnes: Si quis vult post me venire, abneget semetipsum, et tollat crucem suam quotidie, et sequatur me.He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; for he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall save it.Quả vậy, ai muốn cứu mạng sống mình, thì sẽ mất; còn ai liều mất mạng sống mình vì tôi, thì sẽ cứu được mạng sống ấy.ὃς γὰρ ⸀ἂν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι, ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ’ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ, οὗτος σώσει αὐτήν. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake will save it.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, and cast away himself?Vì người nào được cả thế giới mà phải đánh mất chính mình hay là thiệt thân, thì nào có lợi gì?τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖται ἄνθρωπος κερδήσας τὸν κόσμον ὅλον ἑαυτὸν δὲ ἀπολέσας ἢ ζημιωθείς;Quid enim proficit homo, si lucretur universum mundum, se autem ipsum perdat, et detrimentum sui faciat? For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self?
For he that shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man shall be ashamed, when he shall come in his majesty, and that of his Father, and of the holy angels. For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels.
But I tell you of a truth: There are some standing here that shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God.“Thầy bảo thật anh em: trong số người có mặt ở đây, có những kẻ sẽ không phải chết, trước khi thấy Nước Thiên Chúa.”Mt 17,1-8; Mc 9,2-8λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀληθῶς, εἰσίν τινες τῶν ⸀αὐτοῦ ⸀ἑστηκότων οἳ οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ. But I tell you the truth: There are some of those who stand here who will in no way taste of death until they see God’s Kingdom.”
And it came to pass about eight days after these words, that he took Peter, and James, and John, and went up into a mountain to pray.Khoảng tám ngày sau khi nói những lời ấy, Đức Giê-su lên núi cầu nguyện đem theo các ông Phê-rô, Gio-an và Gia-cô-bê.Ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὡσεὶ ἡμέραι ὀκτὼ ⸀καὶ παραλαβὼν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην καὶ Ἰάκωβον ἀνέβη εἰς τὸ ὄρος προσεύξασθαι. About eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray.
And whilst he prayed, the shape of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became white and glittering.Đang lúc Người cầu nguyện, dung mạo Người bỗng đổi khác, y phục Người trở nên trắng tinh chói loà.καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ προσεύχεσθαι αὐτὸν τὸ εἶδος τοῦ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἕτερον καὶ ὁ ἱματισμὸς αὐτοῦ λευκὸς ἐξαστράπτων. As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.
And behold two men were talking with him. And they were Moses and Elias,Và kìa, có hai nhân vật đàm đạo với Người, đó là ông Mô-sê và ông Ê-li-a.καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο συνελάλουν αὐτῷ, οἵτινες ἦσαν Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ἠλίας,Et ecce duo viri loquebantur cum illo. Erant autem Moyses et Elias,Behold, two men were talking with him, who were Moses and Elijah,
Appearing in majesty. And they spoke of his decease that he should accomplish in Jerusalem.Hai vị hiện ra, rạng ngời vinh hiển, và nói về cuộc xuất hành Người sắp hoàn thành tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.οἳ ὀφθέντες ἐν δόξῃ ἔλεγον τὴν ἔξοδον αὐτοῦ ἣν ἤμελλεν πληροῦν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.visi in majestate: et dicebant excessum ejus, quem completurus erat in Jerusalem.who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep. And waking, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.Còn ông Phê-rô và đồng bạn thì ngủ mê mệt, nhưng khi tỉnh hẳn, các ông nhìn thấy vinh quang của Đức Giê-su, và hai nhân vật đứng bên Người.ὁ δὲ Πέτρος καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ ἦσαν βεβαρημένοι ὕπνῳ· διαγρηγορήσαντες δὲ εἶδον τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς δύο ἄνδρας τοὺς συνεστῶτας αὐτῷ. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.
And it came to pass, that as they were departing from him, Peter saith to Jesus: Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias; not knowing what he said.Đang lúc hai vị này từ biệt Đức Giê-su, ông Phê-rô thưa với Người rằng: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con ở đây, thật là hay! Chúng con xin dựng ba cái lều, một cho Thầy, một cho ông Mô-sê, và một cho ông Ê-li-a.” As they were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” not knowing what he said.
And as he spoke these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them; and they were afraid, when they entered into the cloud.Ông còn đang nói, thì bỗng có một đám mây bao phủ các ông. Khi thấy mình vào trong đám mây, các ông hoảng sợ.ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ἐγένετο νεφέλη καὶ ⸀ἐπεσκίαζεν αὐτούς· ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ ἐν τῷ ⸂εἰσελθεῖν αὐτοὺς⸃ εἰς τὴν νεφέλην.Hæc autem illo loquente, facta est nubes, et obumbravit eos: et timuerunt, intrantibus illis in nubem. While he said these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud.
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son; hear him.Và từ đám mây có tiếng phán rằng: “Đây là Con Ta, người đã được Ta tuyển chọn, hãy vâng nghe lời Người!”καὶ φωνὴ ἐγένετο ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης λέγουσα· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ⸀ἐκλελεγμένος, αὐτοῦ ἀκούετε. A voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!”
And whilst the voice was uttered, Jesus was found alone. And they held their peace, and told no man in those days any of these things which they had seen. When the voice came, Jesus was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
And it came to pass the day following, when they came down from the mountain, there met him a great multitude.Hôm sau, khi Đức Giê-su và ba môn đệ ở trên núi xuống, có đám đông dân chúng tới đón Người.Ἐγένετο ⸀δὲ τῇ ἑξῆς ἡμέρᾳ κατελθόντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους συνήντησεν αὐτῷ ὄχλος πολύς. On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him.
And behold a man among the crowd cried out, saying: Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son, because he is my only one.Bỗng có một người đàn ông từ trong đám đông kêu lên rằng: “Thưa Thầy, tôi xin Thầy đoái nhìn đứa con trai tôi, vì tôi chỉ có một mình cháu.καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου ⸀ἐβόησεν λέγων· Διδάσκαλε, δέομαί σου ἐπιβλέψαι ἐπὶ τὸν υἱόν μου, ὅτι μονογενής ⸂μοί ἐστιν⸃,Et ecce vir de turba exclamavit, dicens: Magister, obsecro te, respice in filium meum quia unicus est mihi:Behold, a man from the crowd called out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only born child.
And lo, a spirit seizeth him, and he suddenly crieth out, and he throweth him down and teareth him, so that he foameth; and bruising him, he hardly departeth from him.Thế mà quỷ nhập vào cháu, khiến cháu bỗng dưng la lên, vật mình vật mẩy, sùi cả bọt mép, và khó lắm nó mới chịu rời cháu, bỏ cháu lại đó mệt nhừ.καὶ ἰδοὺ πνεῦμα λαμβάνει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξαίφνης κράζει, καὶ σπαράσσει αὐτὸν μετὰ ἀφροῦ καὶ ⸀μόγις ἀποχωρεῖ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ συντρῖβον αὐτόν·et ecce spiritus apprehendit eum, et subito clamat, et elidit, et dissipat eum cum spuma, et vix discedit dilanians eum:Behold, a spirit takes him, he suddenly cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams; and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely.
And I desired thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not.Tôi có xin các môn đệ Thầy trừ tên quỷ đó, nhưng các ông trừ không được.”καὶ ἐδεήθην τῶν μαθητῶν σου ἵνα ἐκβάλωσιν αὐτό, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν.et rogavi discipulos tuos ut ejicerent illum, et non potuerunt.I begged your disciples to cast it out, and they couldn’t.”
And Jesus answering, said: O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.”
And as he was coming to him, the devil threw him down, and tore him.Đứa trẻ đang tiến lại, thì quỷ vật nó xuống và lay nó thật mạnh. While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.
And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and cured the boy, and restored him to his father.Mọi người đều kinh ngạc trước quyền năng cao cả của Thiên Chúa.Mt 17,22-23; Mc 9,30-32 Đang lúc mọi người còn bỡ ngỡ về tất cả các việc Đức Giê-su làm, Người nói với các môn đệ:ἐξεπλήσσοντο δὲ πάντες ἐπὶ τῇ μεγαλειότητι τοῦ θεοῦ. They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
And all were astonished at the mighty power of God. But while all wondered at all the things he did, he said to his disciples: Lay you up in your hearts these words, for it shall come to pass, that the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.“Phần anh em, hãy lắng tai nghe cho kỹ những lời sau đây: Con Người sắp bị nộp vào tay người đời.”Θέσθε ὑμεῖς εἰς τὰ ὦτα ὑμῶν τοὺς λόγους τούτους, ὁ γὰρ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων.Stupebant autem omnes in magnitudine Dei: omnibusque mirantibus in omnibus quæ faciebat, dixit ad discipulos suos: Ponite vos in cordibus vestris sermones istos: Filius enim hominis futurum est ut tradatur in manus hominum.“Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.”
But they understood not this word; and it was hid from them, so that they perceived it not. And they were afraid to ask him concerning this word. But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
And there entered a thought into them, which of them should be greater.Một câu hỏi chợt đến với các ông: Trong các ông, ai là người lớn nhất?Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ διαλογισμὸς ἐν αὐτοῖς, τὸ τίς ἂν εἴη μείζων αὐτῶν.Intravit autem cogitatio in eos quis eorum major esset. An argument arose among them about which of them was the greatest.
But Jesus seeing the thoughts of their heart, took a child and set him by him,Đức Giê-su biết điều các ông đang tự hỏi trong lòng, liền đem một em nhỏ đặt bên cạnh mìnhὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀εἰδὼς τὸν διαλογισμὸν τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενος ⸀παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ παρ’ ἑαυτῷ,At Jesus videns cogitationes cordis illorum, apprehendit puerum, et statuit illum secus se,Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side,
And said to them: Whosoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me. For he that is the lesser among you all, he is the greater.và nói với các ông: “Ai tiếp đón em nhỏ này vì danh Thầy, là tiếp đón chính Thầy; và ai tiếp đón Thầy, là tiếp đón Đấng đã sai Thầy. Thật vậy, ai là người nhỏ nhất trong tất cả anh em, thì kẻ ấy là người lớn nhất.”Mc 9,38-40καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὃς ⸀ἂν δέξηται τοῦτο τὸ παιδίον ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται, καὶ ὃς ⸁ἂν ἐμὲ δέξηται δέχεται τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με· ὁ γὰρ μικρότερος ἐν πᾶσιν ὑμῖν ὑπάρχων οὗτός ⸀ἐστιν μέγας.et ait illis: Quicumque susceperit puerum istum in nomine meo, me recipit: et quicumque me receperit, recipit eum qui me misit. Nam qui minor est inter vos omnes, hic major est.and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”
And John, answering, said: Master, we saw a certain man casting out devils in thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us.Ông Gio-an lên tiếng nói: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con thấy có người nhân danh Thầy mà trừ quỷ. John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.”
And Jesus said to him: Forbid him not; for he that is not against you, is for you.Đức Giê-su bảo ông: “Đừng ngăn cản người ta. Jesus said to him, “Don’t forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”
And it came to pass, when the days of his assumption were accomplishing, that he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.Khi đã tới ngày Đức Giê-su được rước lên trời, Người nhất quyết đi lên Giê-ru-sa-lem.Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήμψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς τὸ ⸀πρόσωπον ⸀ἐστήρισεν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ,Factum est autem dum complerentur dies assumptionis ejus, et ipse faciem suam firmavit ut iret in Jerusalem. It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem
And he sent messengers before his face; and going, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.Người sai mấy sứ giả đi trước. Họ lên đường và vào một làng người Sa-ma-ri để chuẩn bị cho Người đến.καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ. καὶ πορευθέντες εἰσῆλθον εἰς κώμην Σαμαριτῶν, ⸀ὡς ἑτοιμάσαι αὐτῷ·Et misit nuntios ante conspectum suum: et euntes intraverunt in civitatem Samaritanorum ut parerent illi.and sent messengers before his face. They went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.
And they received him not, because his face was of one going to Jerusalem. They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set toward Jerusalem.
And when his disciples James and John had seen this, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them?Thấy thế, hai môn đệ Người là ông Gia-cô-bê và ông Gio-an nói rằng: “Thưa Thầy, Thầy có muốn chúng con khiến lửa từ trời xuống thiêu huỷ chúng nó không?”ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης εἶπαν· Κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι ⸀αὐτούς;Cum vidissent autem discipuli ejus Jacobus et Joannes, dixerunt: Domine, vis dicimus ut ignis descendat de cælo, et consumat illos? When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”
And turning, he rebuked them, saying: You know not of what spirit you are.Nhưng Đức Giê-su quay lại quở mắng các ông.στραφεὶς δὲ ἐπετίμησεν ⸀αὐτοῖς.Et conversus increpavit illos, dicens: Nescitis cujus spiritus estis. But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.
The Son of man came not to destroy souls, but to save. And they went into another town.Rồi Thầy trò đi sang làng khác. For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” They went to another village.

Dixitque ei Jesus: Sine ut mortui sepeliant mortuos suos: tu autem vade, et annuntia regnum Dei.But Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce God’s Kingdom.”
