And Job answered, and said:Bấy giờ ông Gióp lên tiếng nói:Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ἰὼβ λέγειוַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽרEt respondens Job, ait:Then Job answered,
Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.Quả thật, tôi biết rõ thế này: Trước nhan Thiên Chúa,phàm nhân cho mình là công chính thế nào được?Ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας οἶδα ὅτι οὕτως ἐστίν. I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand.Nếu ai thích tranh luận với Người,thì ngàn lần Người cũng không đáp lại một.ἐὰν γὰρ βούληται κριθῆναι αὐτῷ, οὐ μὴ ὑπακούσῃ αὐτῷ, ἵνα μὴ ἀντείπῃ πρὸς ἕνα λόγον αὐτοῦ ἐκ χιλίων. If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?Có ai lòng trí khôn ngoan, sức lực dũng mãnh,đương đầu với Người mà vẫn còn nguyên vẹn?σοφὸς γάρ ἐστιν διανοίᾳ, κραταιός τε καὶ μέγας· τίς σκληρὸς γενόμενος ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ ὑπέμεινεν;חֲכַ֣ם לֵ֭בָב וְאַמִּ֣יץ כֹּ֑חַ מִֽי הִקְשָׁ֥ה אֵ֝לָ֗יו וַיִּשְׁלָֽםSapiens corde est, et fortis robore: quis restitit ei, et pacem habuit?God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?
Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath, knew it not. Qui transtulit montes, et nescierunt hi quos subvertit in furore suo.He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal:Người ra lệnh là mặt trời không mọc,Người niêm ấn lên các vì sao.ὁ λέγων τῷ ἡλίῳ καὶ οὐκ ἀνατέλλει, κατὰ δὲ ἄστρων κατασφραγίζει, κατὰ δὲ ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦ σκόλιόν τι ἐπενόησεν,הָאֹמֵ֣ר לַ֭חֶרֶס וְלֹ֣א יִזְרָ֑ח וּבְעַ֖ד כּוֹכָבִ֣ים יַחְתֹּֽם He commands the sun and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and walketh upon the waves of the sea. He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south. He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number. He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart I shall not understand.Này, Người có đi qua tôi, tôi cũng chẳng thấy,Người có lướt tới, tôi cũng chẳng nhận ra.ἐὰν ὑπερβῇ με, οὐ μὴ ἴδω· καὶ ἐὰν παρέλθῃ με, οὐδ᾽ ὣς ἔγνων. Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why dost thou so?Này Người bắt đi, ai giành lại được? Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
God, whose wrath no mall can resist, and under whom they stoop that bear up the world. Deus, cujus iræ nemo resistere potest, et sub quo curvantur qui portant orbem.“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him?Chẳng lẽ tôi lại tranh cãi, hay tìm lý để chống đối Người sao?ἐὰν δέ μου ὑπακούσεται, ἦ διακρινεῖ τὰ ῥήματά μου. Quantus ergo sum ego, ut respondeam ei, et loquar verbis meis cum eo?How much less will I answer him, and choose my words to argue with him?
I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but would make supplication to my judge. Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
And if he should hear me when I call, I should not believe that he had heard my voice.Tôi có kêu cầu và Người đáp lại,tôi cũng chẳng tin là Người nghe tiếng tôi.ἐάν τε καλέσω καὶ μὴ ὑπακούσῃ, οὐ πιστεύω ὅτι εἰσακήκοέν μου. If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
For he shall crush me in a whirlwind, and multiply my wounds even without cause. For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
He alloweth not my spirit to rest, and he filleth me with bitterness.Người chẳng để tôi kịp thở,mà lại dìm tôi trong bao nỗi đắng cay.οὐκ ἐᾷ γάρ με ἀναπνεῦσαι, ἐνέπλησεν δέ με πικρίας. Non concedit requiescere spiritum meum, et implet me amaritudinibus. He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
If strength be demanded, he is most strong: if equity of judgment, no man dare bear witness for me.Cậy vào sức ư? Nhưng ai cắt cử Người?ὅτι μὲν γὰρ ἰσχύει, κρατεῖ· τίς οὖν κρίματι αὐτοῦ ἀντιστήσεται;אִם לְכֹ֣חַ אַמִּ֣יץ הִנֵּ֑ה וְאִם לְ֝מִשְׁפָּ֗ט מִ֣י יוֹעִידֵֽנִיSi fortitudo quæritur, robustissimus est; si æquitas judicii, nemo audet pro me testimonium dicere. If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
If I would justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I would shew myself innocent, he shall prove me wicked.Cho dù tôi có lý, miệng tôi cũng kết án tôi;cho dù tôi có vẹn toàn, nó vẫn chứng minh là tôi bất chính.ἐὰν γὰρ ὦ δίκαιος, τὸ στόμα μου ἀσεβήσει· ἐάν τε ὦ ἄμεμπτος, σκολιὸς ἀποβήσομαι. Si justificare me voluero, os meum condemnabit me; si innocentem ostendero, pravum me comprobabit.Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.
Although I should be simple, even this my soul shall be ignorant of, and I shall be weary of my life.Tôi vẹn toàn ư? Etiam si simplex fuero, hoc ipsum ignorabit anima mea, et tædebit me vitæ meæ.I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
One thing there is that I have spoken, both the innocent and the wicked he consumeth.Tất cả đều như nhau; vì thế tôi mới bảo:đứa gian ác cũng như kẻ vẹn toàn, chính Người tiêu diệt hết!διὸ εἶπον Μέγαν καὶ δυνάστην ἀπολλύει ὀργή,אַחַ֗ת הִ֥יא עַל כֵּ֥ן אָמַ֑רְתִּי תָּ֥ם וְ֝רָשָׁ֗ע ה֣וּא מְכַלֶּֽהUnum est quod locutus sum: et innocentem et impium ipse consumit.“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
If he scourge, let him kill at once, and not laugh at the pains of the innocent.Nếu thình lình xảy ra tai ương gây chết chóc,thì Người vẫn thản nhiên nhạo cườitrước cảnh khốn cùng của người vô tội.ὅτι φαῦλοι ἐν θανάτῳ ἐξαισίῳ, ἀλλὰ δίκαιοι καταγελῶνται·אִם שׁ֭וֹט יָמִ֣ית פִּתְאֹ֑ם לְמַסַּ֖ת נְקִיִּ֣ם יִלְעָֽג If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked, he covereth the face of the judges thereof: and if it be not he, who is it then?Miền đất có bị trao vào tay kẻ dữ,thì Người cũng che mặt các quan toà,nếu không phải là Người thì ai đây?παραδέδονται γὰρ εἰς χεῖρας ἀσεβοῦς. The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
My days have been swifter than a post: they have fled away and have not seen good. Dies mei velociores fuerunt cursore; fugerunt, et non viderunt bonum.“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away. They see no good.
They have passed by as ships carrying fruits, as an eagle flying to the prey.Nó lướt đi như những chiếc thuyền nan,như phượng hoàng bổ xuống bắt mồi.ἢ καὶ ἔστιν ναυσὶν ἴχνος ὁδοῦ, ἢ ἀετοῦ πετομένου ζητοῦντος βοράν;חָ֭לְפוּ עִם אֳנִיּ֣וֹת אֵבֶ֑ה כְּ֝נֶ֗שֶׁר יָט֥וּשׂ עֲלֵי אֹֽכֶלPertransierunt quasi naves poma portantes; sicut aquila volans ad escam. They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
If I say: I will not speak so: I change my face, and am tormented with sorrow.Nếu con nói: con sẽ quên đi lời than thở,đổi nét mặt mà hớn hở vui tươi,ἐάν τε γὰρ εἴπω, ἐπιλήσομαι λαλῶν, συνκύψας τῷ προσώπῳ στενάξω. If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up,’
I feared all my works, knowing that thou didst not spare the offender.thì con lại khiếp sợ mọi nỗi đớn đau;con biết rằng: Ngài chẳng kể con là vô tội.σείομαι πᾶσιν τοῖς μέλεσιν, οἶδα γὰρ ὅτι οὐκ ἀθῷόν με ἐάσεις. Verebar omnia opera mea, sciens quod non parceres delinquenti.I am afraid of all my sorrows. I know that you will not hold me innocent.
But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?Vậy nếu con đã làm điều dữ,thì nhọc nhằn vô ích mà làm chi?ἐπειδὴ δέ εἰμι ἀσεβής, διὰ τί οὐκ ἀπέθανον;אָנֹכִ֥י אֶרְשָׁ֑ע לָמָּה זֶּ֝֗ה הֶ֣בֶל אִיגָֽעSi autem et sic impius sum, quare frustra laboravi?I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
If I be washed as it were with snow waters, and my hands shall shine ever so clean:Nếu con có tắm bằng nước tuyết,có lấy thuốc tẩy mà rửa tay cho sạch,ἐὰν γὰρ ἀπολούσωμαι χιόνι, καὶ ἀποκαθάρωμαι χερσὶν καθαραῖς,אִם הִתְרָחַ֥צְתִּי במו בְמֵי שָׁ֑לֶג וַ֝הֲזִכּ֗וֹתִי בְּבֹ֣ר כַּפָּֽיSi lotus fuero quasi aquis nivis, et fulserint velut mundissimæ manus meæ,If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
Yet thou shalt plunge me in filth, and my garments shall abhor me,bấy giờ, Ngài sẽ nhận chìm con xuống bùn,khiến áo xống con cũng coi con là ghê tởm.ἱκανῶς ἐν ῥύπῳ με ἔβαψας, ἐβδελύξατο δέ με ἡ στολή.אָ֭ז בַּשַּׁ֣חַת תִּטְבְּלֵ֑נִי וְ֝תִֽעֲב֗וּנִי שַׂלְמוֹתָֽיtamen sordibus intinges me, et abominabuntur me vestimenta mea.yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes will abhor me.
For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.Vì Người không phải là người phàm như tôi,để tôi tranh cãi với Người,để cùng với Người ra trước toà xét xử.οὐ γὰρ εἶ ἄνθρωπος κατ᾽ ἐμὲ ᾧ ἀντικρινοῦμαι, ἵνα ἔλθωμεν ὁμοθυμαδὸν εἰς κρίσιν.כִּי לֹא אִ֣ישׁ כָּמֹ֣נִי אֶֽעֱנֶ֑נּוּ נָב֥וֹא יַ֝חְדָּ֗ו בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽטNeque enim viro qui similis mei est, respondebo; nec qui mecum in judicio ex æquo possit audiri. For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
There is none that may be able to reprove both, and to put his hand between both. There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me.Phải chi Người đẩy xa tôi ngọn roi của Người,và đừng làm tôi kinh hoàng sợ hãi!ἀπαλλαξάτω ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὴν ῥάβδον, ὁ δὲ φόβος αὐτοῦ μή με στροβείτω,יָסֵ֣ר מֵעָלַ֣י שִׁבְט֑וֹ וְ֝אֵמָת֗וֹ אַֽל תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּיAuferat a me virgam suam, et pavor ejus non me terreat.Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
I will speak, and will not fear him: for I cannot answer while I am in fear.Bấy giờ tôi sẽ nói mà không còn sợ Người,vì tôi thấy tôi đâu có như vậy!καὶ οὐ μὴ φοβηθῶ ἀλλὰ λαλήσω· οὐ γὰρ οὕτω συνεπίσταμαι,אַֽ֭דַבְּרָה וְלֹ֣א אִירָאֶ֑נּוּ כִּ֥י לֹא כֵ֥ן אָ֝נֹכִ֗י עִמָּדִֽי I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.
