The life of man upon earth is a warfare, and his days are like the days of a hireling. | Cuộc sống con người nơi dương thếchẳng phải là thời khổ dịch sao?Và chuỗi ngày lao lung vất vảđâu khác gì đời kẻ làm thuê? | “Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand?
As a servant longeth for the shade, as the hireling looketh for the end of his work; | Tựa người nô lệ mong bóng mát,như kẻ làm thuê đợi tiền công, | ἢ ὥσπερ θεράπων δεδοικὼς τὸν κύριον αὐτοῦ καὶ τετευχὼς σκιᾶς, ἢ ὥσπερ μισθωτὸς ἀναμένων τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ; | כְּעֶ֥בֶד יִשְׁאַף צֵ֑ל וּ֝כְשָׂכִ֗יר יְקַוֶּ֥ה פָעֳלֽוֹ | Sicut servus desiderat umbram, et sicut mercenarius præstolatur finem operis sui, | As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages,
So I also have had empty months, and have numbered to myself wearisome nights. | so I am made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me.
If I lie down to sleep, I shall say: When shall arise? and again I shall look for the evening, and shall be filled with sorrows even till darkness. | Vừa nằm xuống, tôi đã nhủ thầm: “Khi nào trời sáng?”Mới thức dậy, tôi liền tự hỏi: “Bao giờ chiều buông?”Mãi tới lúc hoàng hôn, tôi chìm trong mê sảng. | When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
My flesh is clothed with rottenness and the filth of dust, my skin is withered and drawn together. | Thịt tôi chai ra, giòi bọ lúc nhúc,da tôi nứt nẻ, máu mủ đầm đìa. | My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh.
My days have passed more swiftly than the web is cut by the weaver, and are consumed without any hope. | יָמַ֣י קַ֭לּוּ מִנִּי אָ֑רֶג וַ֝יִּכְל֗וּ בְּאֶ֣פֶס תִּקְוָֽה | Dies mei velocius transierunt quam a texente tela succiditur, et consumpti sunt absque ulla spe. | My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.
Remember that my life is but wind, and my eyes shall not return to see good things. | Lạy ĐỨC CHÚA, xin Ngài nhớ cho,cuộc đời con chỉ là hơi thở,mắt con sẽ chẳng thấy hạnh phúc bao giờ. | Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good.
Nor shall the sight of man behold me: thy eyes are upon me, and I shall be no more. | οὐ περιβλέψεταί με ὀφθαλμὸς ὁρῶντός με· οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἐν ἐμοί, καὶ οὐκ ἔτι εἰμί, | לֹֽא תְ֭שׁוּרֵנִי עֵ֣ין רֹ֑אִי עֵינֶ֖יךָ בִּ֣י וְאֵינֶֽנִּי | Nec aspiciet me visus hominis; oculi tui in me, et non subsistam. | The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.
As a cloud is consumed, and passeth away: so he that shall go down to hell shall not come up. | Ví tựa mây tan, ví tựa mây bay,ai xuống âm phủ rồi, chẳng còn lên được nữa! | As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.
Nor shall he return my more into his house, neither shall his place know him any more. | Nó chẳng trở về mái nhà xưa,nơi nó đã ở hết nhận ra nó rồi. | לֹא יָשׁ֣וּב ע֣וֹד לְבֵית֑וֹ וְלֹא יַכִּירֶ֖נּוּ ע֣וֹד מְקֹמֽוֹ | Nec revertetur ultra in domum suam, neque cognoscet eum amplius locus ejus. | He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.
Wherefore I will not spare my month, I will speak in the affliction of my spirit: I will talk with the bitterness of my soul. | גַּם אֲנִי֮ לֹ֤א אֶחֱשָׂ֫ךְ פִּ֥י אֲֽ֭דַבְּרָה בְּצַ֣ר רוּחִ֑י אָ֝שִׂ֗יחָה בְּמַ֣ר נַפְשִֽׁי | Quapropter et ego non parcam ori meo: loquar in tribulatione spiritus mei; confabulabor cum amaritudine animæ meæ. | “Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou hast enclosed me in a prison? | Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me?
If I say: My bed shall comfort me, and I shall be relieved speaking with myself on my couch: | Nếu con nói: “Giường con nằm sẽ an ủi con,nơi con ngủ sẽ làm dịu đi tiếng con than thở”, | εἶπα ὅτι Παρακαλέσει με ἡ κλίνη μου, ἀνοίσω δὲ πρὸς ἐμαυτὸν ἰδίᾳ λόγον τῇ κοίτῃ μου· | כִּֽי אָ֭מַרְתִּי תְּנַחֲמֵ֣נִי עַרְשִׂ֑י יִשָּׂ֥א בְ֝שִׂיחִ֗י מִשְׁכָּבִֽי | Si dixero: Consolabitur me lectulus meus, et relevabor loquens mecum in strato meo: | When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint,’
Thou wilt frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions. | וְחִתַּתַּ֥נִי בַחֲלֹמ֑וֹת וּֽמֵחֶזְיֹנ֥וֹת תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי | terrebis me per somnia, et per visiones horrore concuties. | then you scare me with dreams and terrify me through visions,
So that my soul rather chooseth hanging, and my bones death. | Chẳng thà bị treo cổ, chẳng thà phải chếthơn là sống lây lất, da bọc xương. | so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.
I have done with hope, I shall now live no longer: spare me, for my days are nothing. | Con chẳng thiết tha gì, con đâu có sống mãi,xin cứ để mặc con, vì đời con chỉ là hơi thở. | I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.
What is a man that thou shouldst magnify him? or why dost thou set thy heart upon him? | What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him,
Thou visitest him early in the morning, and thou provest him suddenly. | that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment?
How long wilt thou not spare me, nor suffer me to swallow down my spittle? | Đến bao giờ Ngài mới ngoảnh mặt điđể con yên thân nuốt trôi nước miếng? | How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle?
I have sinned: what shall I do to thee, O keeper of men? why hast thou set me opposite to thee, and I am become burdensome to myself? | If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?
Why dost thou not remove my sin, and why dost thou not take away my iniquity? Behold now I shall sleep in the dust: and if thou seek me in the morning, I shall not be. | וּמֶ֤ה לֹא תִשָּׂ֣א פִשְׁעִי֮ וְתַעֲבִ֪יר אֶת עֲוֺ֫נִ֥י כִּֽי עַ֭תָּה לֶעָפָ֣ר אֶשְׁכָּ֑ב וְשִׁ֖חֲרְתַּ֣נִי וְאֵינֶֽנִּי | Cur non tollis peccatum meum, et quare non aufers iniquitatem meam? ecce nunc in pulvere dormiam, et si mane me quæsieris, non subsistam.] | Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”
