| 4 | For there is no man that doth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. | 6 | Then Jesus said to them: My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready. | Đức Giê-su nói với họ: “Thời của tôi chưa đến, nhưng thời của các anh lúc nào cũng thuận tiện. | λέγει οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πάρεστιν, ὁ δὲ καιρὸς ὁ ὑμέτερος πάντοτέ ἐστιν ἕτοιμος. | Dicit ergo eis Jesus: Tempus meum nondum advenit: tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum. | Jesus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. |
| 7 | The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil. | Thế gian không thể ghét các anh, nhưng tôi thì nó ghét, vì tôi làm chứng rằng các việc nó làm thì xấu xa. | οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ, ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν. | Non potest mundus odisse vos: me autem odit, quia ego testimonium perhibeo de illo quod opera ejus mala sunt. | The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil. |
| 8 | Go you up to this festival day, but I go not up to this festival day: because my time is not accomplished. | Các anh cứ lên dự lễ đi; còn tôi, tôi không lên dự lễ này, vì thời của tôi chưa chín muồi.” | ὑμεῖς ἀνάβητε εἰς τὴν ⸀ἑορτήν· ἐγὼ ⸀οὐκ ἀναβαίνω εἰς τὴν ἑορτὴν ταύτην, ὅτι ὁ ⸂ἐμὸς καιρὸς⸃ οὔπω πεπλήρωται. | Vos ascendite ad diem festum hunc, ego autem non ascendo ad diem festum istum: quia meum tempus nondum impletum est. | You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.” |
| 9 | When he had said these things, he himself stayed in Galilee. | Nói thế rồi, Người ở lại miền Ga-li-lê. | ταῦτα ⸀δὲ εἰπὼν ⸀αὐτὸς ἔμεινεν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ. | Hæc cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilæa. | Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee. |
| 10 | But after his brethren were gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but, as it were, in secret. | Tuy nhiên, khi anh em Người đã lên dự lễ, thì chính Người cũng lên, nhưng không công khai và hầu như bí mật. | Ὡς δὲ ἀνέβησαν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνέβη⸃, οὐ φανερῶς ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐν κρυπτῷ. | Ut autem ascenderunt fratres ejus, tunc et ipse ascendit ad diem festum non manifeste, sed quasi in occulto. | But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret. |

| 12 | And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him. For some said: He is a good man. And others said: No, but he seduceth the people. | Dân chúng bàn tán nhiều về Người. Kẻ thì bảo: “Đó là một người tốt.” Kẻ thì nói: “Không, ông ta mê hoặc dân chúng.” | καὶ γογγυσμὸς ⸂περὶ αὐτοῦ ἦν πολὺς⸃ ἐν τοῖς ὄχλοις· οἱ μὲν ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἀγαθός ἐστιν, ἄλλοι ⸀δὲ ἔλεγον· Οὔ, ἀλλὰ πλανᾷ τὸν ὄχλον. | Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant: Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant: Non, sed seducit turbas. | There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.” |
| 13 | Yet no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews. | Nhưng không ai dám công khai nói về Người, vì sợ người Do-thái. | οὐδεὶς μέντοι παρρησίᾳ ἐλάλει περὶ αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων. | Nemo tamen palam loquebatur de illo propter metum Judæorum. | Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews. |
| 14 | Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. | Vào giữa kỳ lễ, Đức Giê-su lên Đền Thờ và giảng dạy. | Ἤδη δὲ τῆς ἑορτῆς μεσούσης ⸀ἀνέβη Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκεν. | Jam autem die festo mediante, ascendit Jesus in templum, et docebat. | But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught. |
| 15 | And the Jews wondered, saying: How doth this man know letters, having never learned? | Người Do-thái lấy làm ngạc nhiên. Họ nói: “Ông này không học hành gì, mà sao lại thông thạo chữ nghĩa thế!” | ⸂ἐθαύμαζον οὖν⸃ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες· Πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς; | Et mirabantur Judæi, dicentes: Quomodo hic litteras scit, cum non didicerit? | The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?” |
| 16 | Jesus answered them, and said: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. | Đức Giê-su trả lời: “Đạo lý tôi dạy không phải là của tôi, nhưng là của Đấng đã sai tôi. | ἀπεκρίθη οὖν αὐτοῖς ⸀ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν· Ἡ ἐμὴ διδαχὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὴ ἀλλὰ τοῦ πέμψαντός με· | Respondit eis Jesus, et dixit: Mea doctrina non est mea, sed ejus qui misit me. | Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. |
| 17 | If any man do the will of him; he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. | Ai muốn làm theo ý của Người, thì sẽ biết rằng đạo lý ấy là bởi Thiên Chúa hay do tôi tự mình giảng dạy. | ἐάν τις θέλῃ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιεῖν, γνώσεται περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς πότερον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν ἢ ἐγὼ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ λαλῶ. | Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar. | If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or if I am speaking from myself. |
| 18 | He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and there is no injustice in him. | Ai tự mình giảng dạy, thì tìm vinh quang cho chính mình. Còn ai tìm vinh quang cho Đấng đã sai mình, thì là người chân thật, và nơi người ấy không có gì là bất chính. | ὁ ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ λαλῶν τὴν δόξαν τὴν ἰδίαν ζητεῖ· ὁ δὲ ζητῶν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ πέμψαντος αὐτὸν οὗτος ἀληθής ἐστιν καὶ ἀδικία ἐν αὐτῷ οὐκ ἔστιν. | Qui a semetipso loquitur, gloriam propriam quærit; qui autem quærit gloriam ejus qui misit eum, hic verax est, et injustitia in illo non est. | He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. |
| 19 | Did Moses not give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? | Ông Mô-sê đã chẳng ban Lề Luật cho các ông sao? Thế mà không một ai trong các ông tuân giữ Lề Luật! “Sao các ông lại tìm cách giết tôi?” | Οὐ Μωϋσῆς ⸀δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον. τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι; | Nonne Moyses dedit vobis legem: et nemo ex vobis facit legem? | Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?” |
| 20 | Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered, and said: Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to kill thee? | Dân chúng đáp: “Ông bị quỷ ám rồi! Có ai tìm giết ông đâu?” | ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ⸀ὄχλος· Δαιμόνιον ἔχεις· τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι; | Quid me quæritis interficere? Respondit turba, et dixit: Dæmonium habes: quis te quæret interficere? | The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?” |
| 21 | Jesus answered, and said to them: One work I have done; and you all wonder: | Đức Giê-su trả lời: “Tôi chỉ làm có một việc, mà tất cả các ông đều ngạc nhiên. | ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἓν ἔργον ἐποίησα καὶ πάντες θαυμάζετε. | Respondit Jesus et dixit eis: Unum opus feci, et omnes miramini: | Jesus answered them, “I did one work and you all marvel because of it. |
| 22 | Therefore, Moses gave you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man. | Ông Mô-sê đã truyền cho các ông làm phép cắt bì (thật ra, phép ấy đã có từ thời các tổ phụ, chứ không phải từ thời ông Mô-sê), và các ông làm phép cắt bì cả trong ngày sa-bát. | διὰ τοῦτο Μωϋσῆς δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὴν περιτομήν— οὐχ ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ Μωϋσέως ἐστὶν ἀλλ’ ἐκ τῶν πατέρων— καὶ ἐν σαββάτῳ περιτέμνετε ἄνθρωπον. | propterea Moyses dedit vobis circumcisionem (non quia ex Moyse est, sed ex patribus), et in sabbato circumciditis hominem. | Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy. |
| 23 | If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are you angry at me because I have healed the whole man on the sabbath day? | Vậy nếu người ta làm phép cắt bì cả trong ngày sa-bát để khỏi lỗi Luật Mô-sê, thì sao các ông lại nổi giận với tôi, vì tôi đã chữa lành toàn thân một người trong ngày sa-bát? | εἰ περιτομὴν ⸀λαμβάνει ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ; | Si circumcisionem accipit homo in sabbato, ut non solvatur lex Moysi: mihi indignamini quia totum hominem sanum feci in sabbato? | If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath? |
| 24 | Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment. | Các ông đừng xét đoán theo bề ngoài nữa, nhưng hãy xét đoán cho công minh.” | μὴ κρίνετε κατ’ ὄψιν, ἀλλὰ τὴν δικαίαν κρίσιν ⸀κρίνετε. | Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate. | Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” |
| 25 | Some therefore of Jerusalem said: Is not this he whom they seek to kill? | Bấy giờ có những người ở Giê-ru-sa-lem nói: “Ông này không phải là người họ đang tìm giết đó sao? | Ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν· Οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι; | Dicebant ergo quidam ex Jerosolymis: Nonne hic est, quem quærunt interficere? | Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill? |
| 26 | And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers known for a truth, that this is the Christ? | Kìa, ông ta ăn nói công khai mà họ chẳng bảo gì cả. Phải chăng các nhà hữu trách đã thật sự nhìn nhận ông là Đấng Ki-tô? | καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν· μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ⸀ἐστιν ὁ χριστός; | et ecce palam loquitur, et nihil ei dicunt. Numquid vere cognoverunt principes quia hic est Christus? | Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ? |
| 27 | But we know this man, whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. | Ông ấy, chúng ta biết ông xuất thân từ đâu rồi; còn Đấng Ki-tô, khi Người đến thì chẳng ai biết Người xuất thân từ đâu cả.” | ἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν· ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν. | Sed hunc scimus unde sit: Christus autem cum venerit, nemo scit unde sit. | However, we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.” |
| 28 | Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching, and saying: You both know me, and you know whence I am: and I am not come of myself; but he that sent me, is true, whom you know not. | Lúc giảng dạy trong Đền Thờ, Đức Giê-su nói lớn tiếng rằng: “Các ông biết tôi ư? Các ông biết tôi xuất thân từ đâu ư? Tôi đâu có tự mình mà đến. Đấng đã sai tôi là Đấng chân thật. Các ông, các ông không biết Người. | ἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων· Κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί· καὶ ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλ’ ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με, ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε· | Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens: Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis: et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis. | Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know. |
| 29 | I know him, because I am from him, and he hath sent me. | Phần tôi, tôi biết Người, bởi vì tôi từ nơi Người mà đến, và chính Người đã sai tôi.” | ἐγὼ οἶδα αὐτόν, ὅτι παρ’ αὐτοῦ εἰμι κἀκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν. | Ego scio eum: quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit. | I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.” |
| 30 | They sought therefore to apprehend him: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. | Bấy giờ họ tìm cách bắt Người, nhưng chẳng có ai tra tay bắt, vì giờ của Người chưa đến. | ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα, ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ. | Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere: et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venerat hora ejus. | They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. |
| 31 | But of the people many believed in him, and said: When the Christ cometh, shall he do more miracles, than these which this man doth? | Trong dân chúng, có nhiều kẻ đã tin vào Người, họ nói: “Khi Đấng Ki-tô đến, liệu Người có làm nhiều dấu lạ hơn ông này chăng?” | ⸂ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ⸃ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ⸀ἔλεγον· Ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ ⸀μὴ πλείονα ⸀σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν; | De turba autem multi crediderunt in eum, et dicebant: Christus cum venerit, numquid plura signa faciet quam quæ hic facit? | But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?” |
| 32 | The Pharisees heard the people murmuring these things concerning him: and the rulers and Pharisees sent ministers to apprehend him. | Người Pha-ri-sêu nghe dân chúng bàn tán với nhau về Người như thế, nên họ và các thượng tế sai vệ binh đi bắt Người. | Ἤκουσαν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τοῦ ὄχλου γογγύζοντος περὶ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν ⸂οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ὑπηρέτας⸃ ἵνα πιάσωσιν αὐτόν. | Audierunt pharisæi turbam murmurantem de illo hæc: et miserunt principes et pharisæi ministros ut apprehenderent eum. | The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him. |
| 33 | Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while I am with you: and then I go to him that sent me. | Vậy, Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Tôi còn ở với các ông ít lâu nữa thôi, rồi tôi đi đến cùng Đấng đã sai tôi. | εἶπεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἔτι ⸂χρόνον μικρὸν⸃ μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με. | Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Adhuc modicum tempus vobiscum sum: et vado ad eum qui me misit. | Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me. |
| 34 | You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come. | Các ông sẽ tìm tôi mà không gặp, và nơi tôi ở, các ông không thể đến được.” | ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὑρήσετε, καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν. | Quæretis me, et non invenietis: et ubi ego sum, vos non potestis venire. | You will seek me and won’t find me. You can’t come where I am.” |
| 35 | The Jews therefore said among themselves: Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? | Người Do-thái liền nói với nhau: “Ông ấy sắp đi đâu mà chúng ta không gặp được?
