And going out from thence, he went into his own country; and his disciples followed him. | Đức Giê-su ra khỏi đó và đến nơi quê quán của Người, có các môn đệ đi theo. | Et egressus inde, abiit in patriam suam: et sequebantur eum discipuli sui: | He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were in admiration at his doctrine, saying: How came this man by all these things? and what wisdom is this that is given to him, and such mighty works as are wrought by his hands? | καὶ γενομένου σαββάτου ἤρξατο ⸂διδάσκειν ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ⸃· καὶ ⸀οἱ πολλοὶ ἀκούοντες ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες· Πόθεν τούτῳ ταῦτα, καὶ τίς ἡ σοφία ἡ δοθεῖσα ⸀τούτῳ, καὶ ⸀αἱ δυνάμεις τοιαῦται διὰ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ ⸀γινόμεναι; | et facto sabbato cœpit in synagoga docere: et multi audientes admirabantur in doctrina ejus, dicentes: Unde huic hæc omnia? et quæ est sapientia, quæ data est illi, et virtutes tales, quæ per manus ejus efficiuntur? | When the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon? are not also his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized in regard of him. | Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they were offended at him.
And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred. | Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”
And he could not do any miracles there, only that he cured a few that were sick, laying his hands upon them. | καὶ οὐκ ἐδύνατο ἐκεῖ ⸂ποιῆσαι οὐδεμίαν δύναμιν⸃, εἰ μὴ ὀλίγοις ἀρρώστοις ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας ἐθεράπευσεν· | Et non poterat ibi virtutem ullam facere, nisi paucos infirmos impositis manibus curavit: | He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
And he wondered because of their unbelief, and he went through the villages round about teaching. | et mirabatur propter incredulitatem eorum, et circuibat castella in circuitu docens. | He marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.
And he called the twelve; and began to send them two and two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. | He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
And he commanded them that they should take nothing for the way, but a staff only: no scrip, no bread, nor money in their purse, | Người chỉ thị cho các ông không được mang gì đi đường, chỉ trừ cây gậy; không được mang lương thực, bao bị, tiền đồng để giắt lưng; | καὶ παρήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδὲν αἴρωσιν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰ μὴ ῥάβδον μόνον, μὴ ⸂ἄρτον, μὴ πήραν⸃, μὴ εἰς τὴν ζώνην χαλκόν, | Et præcepit eis ne quid tollerent in via, nisi virgam tantum: non peram, non panem, neque in zona æs, | He commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,
But to be shod with sandals, and that they should not put on two coats. | but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.
And he said to them: Wheresoever you shall enter into an house, there abide till you depart from that place. | Người bảo các ông: “Bất cứ ở đâu, khi anh em đã vào nhà nào, thì cứ ở lại đó cho đến lúc ra đi. | Et dicebat eis: Quocumque introieritis in domum, illic manete donec exeatis inde: | He said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you; going forth from thence, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony to them. | Còn nơi nào người ta không đón tiếp và nghe lời anh em, thì khi ra khỏi đó, hãy giũ bụi chân để tỏ ý phản đối họ.” | Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
And going forth they preached that men should do penance: | Các ông đi rao giảng, kêu gọi người ta ăn năn sám hối. | Καὶ ἐξελθόντες ⸀ἐκήρυξαν ἵνα ⸀μετανοῶσιν, | Et exeuntes prædicabant ut pœnitentiam agerent: | They went out and preached that people should repent.
And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. | et dæmonia multa ejiciebant, et ungebant oleo multos ægros, et sanabant. | They cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick and healed them.
And king Herod heard, (for his name was made manifest,) and he said: John the Baptist is risen again from the dead, and therefore mighty works shew forth themselves in him. | Vua Hê-rô-đê nghe biết về Đức Giê-su, vì Người đã nổi danh. Có kẻ nói: “Đó là ông Gio-an Tẩy Giả từ cõi chết trỗi dậy, nên mới có quyền năng làm phép lạ.” | Καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἡρῴδης, φανερὸν γὰρ ἐγένετο τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ⸀ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτίζων ⸂ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν⸃, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο ἐνεργοῦσιν αἱ δυνάμεις ἐν αὐτῷ· | Et audivit rex Herodes (manifestum enim factum est nomen ejus), et dicebat: Quia Joannes Baptista resurrexit a mortuis: et propterea virtutes operantur in illo. | King Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
And others said: It is Elias. But others said: It is a prophet, as one of the prophets. | Kẻ khác nói: “Đó là ông Ê-li-a.” | But others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
Which Herod hearing, said: John whom I beheaded, he is risen again from the dead. | Vua Hê-rô-đê nghe thế, liền nói: “Ông Gio-an, ta đã cho chém đầu, chính ông đã trỗi dậy!”Mt 14,3-12 | ἀκούσας δὲ ⸀ὁ Ἡρῴδης ⸀ἔλεγεν· Ὃν ἐγὼ ἀπεκεφάλισα Ἰωάννην, οὗτος ⸀ἠγέρθη. | Quo audito Herodes ait: Quem ego decollavi Joannem, hic a mortuis resurrexit. | But Herod, when he heard this, said, “This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.”
For Herod himself had sent and apprehended John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he had married her. Lý do là vì vua đã lấy bà Hê-rô-đi-a, vợ của người anh là Phi-líp-phê, | Αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ Ἡρῴδης ἀποστείλας ἐκράτησεν τὸν Ἰωάννην καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐν φυλακῇ διὰ Ἡρῳδιάδα τὴν γυναῖκα Φιλίππου τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι αὐτὴν ἐγάμησεν· | Ipse enim Herodes misit, ac tenuit Joannem, et vinxit eum in carcere propter Herodiadem uxorem Philippi fratris sui, quia duxerat eam. | For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
For John said to Herod: It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife. | Dicebat enim Joannes Herodi: Non licet tibi habere uxorem fratris tui. | For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Now Herodias laid snares for him: and was desirous to put him to death, and could not. | Bà Hê-rô-đi-a căm thù ông Gio-an và muốn giết ông, nhưng không được. | Herodias set herself against him and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,
For Herod feared John, knowing him to be a just and holy man: and kept him, and when he heard him, did many things: and he heard him willingly. | for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
And when a convenient day was come, Herod made a supper for his birthday, for the princes, and tribunes, and chief men of Galilee. | Καὶ γενομένης ἡμέρας εὐκαίρου ὅτε Ἡρῴδης τοῖς γενεσίοις αὐτοῦ δεῖπνον ⸀ἐποίησεν τοῖς μεγιστᾶσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς χιλιάρχοις καὶ τοῖς πρώτοις τῆς Γαλιλαίας, | Et cum dies opportunus accidisset, Herodes natalis sui cœnam fecit principibus, et tribunis, et primis Galilææ: | Then a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.
And when the daughter of the same Herodias had come in, and had danced, and pleased Herod, and them that were at table with him, the king said to the damsel: Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee. | καὶ εἰσελθούσης τῆς θυγατρὸς ⸂αὐτῆς τῆς⸃ Ἡρῳδιάδος καὶ ὀρχησαμένης ⸂καὶ ἀρεσάσης⸃ τῷ Ἡρῴδῃ καὶ τοῖς συνανακειμένοις, ⸂εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς⸃ τῷ κορασίῳ· Αἴτησόν με ὃ ἐὰν θέλῃς, καὶ δώσω σοι· | cumque introisset filia ipsius Herodiadis, et saltasset, et placuisset Herodi, simulque recumbentibus, rex ait puellæ: Pete a me quod vis, et dabo tibi: | When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
And he swore to her: Whatsoever thou shalt ask I will give thee, though it be the half of my kingdom. | et juravit illi: Quia quidquid petieris dabo tibi, licet dimidium regni mei. | He swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”
Who when she was gone out, said to her mother, What shall I ask? But she said: The head of John the Baptist. | Cô gái đi ra hỏi mẹ: “Con nên xin gì đây?” Mẹ cô nói: “Đầu Gio-an Tẩy Giả.” | Quæ cum exisset, dixit matri suæ: Quid petam? At illa dixit: Caput Joannis Baptistæ. | She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” She said, “The head of John the Baptizer.”
And when she was come in immediately with haste to the king, she asked, saying: I will that forthwith thou give me in a dish, the head of John the Baptist. | She came in immediately with haste to the king and requested, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”
And the king was struck sad. Yet because of his oath, and because of them that were with him at table, he would not displease her: | Nhà vua buồn lắm, nhưng vì đã trót thề, lại thề trước khách dự tiệc, nên không muốn thất hứa với cô. | καὶ περίλυπος γενόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς διὰ τοὺς ὅρκους καὶ τοὺς ⸀ἀνακειμένους οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ⸂ἀθετῆσαι αὐτήν⸃· | Et contristatus est rex: propter jusjurandum, et propter simul discumbentes, noluit eam contristare: | The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.
But sending an executioner, he commanded that his head should be brought in a dish. | Lập tức, vua sai thị vệ đi và truyền mang đầu ông Gio-an tới. ⸀καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπεκεφάλισεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ | sed misso spiculatore præcepit afferri caput ejus in disco. Et decollavit eum in carcere, | Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard and commanded to bring John’s head; and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
And he beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish: and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother. | et attulit caput ejus in disco: et dedit illud puellæ, et puella dedit matri suæ. | and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.
Which his disciples hearing came, and took his body, and laid it in a tomb. | Quo audito, discipuli ejus venerunt, et tulerunt corpus ejus: et posuerunt illud in monumento. | When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
And the apostles coming together unto Jesus, related to him all things that they had done and taught. | The apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.
And he said to them: Come apart into a desert place, and rest a little. For there were many coming and going: and they had not so much as time to eat. | He said to them, “Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
And going up into a ship, they went into a desert place apart. | Et ascendentes in navim, abierunt in desertum locum seorsum. | They went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
And they saw them going away, and many knew: and they ran flocking thither on foot from all the cities, and were there before them. | They saw them going, and many recognized him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to him.
And Jesus going out saw a great multitude: and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. | Jesus came out, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came to him, saying: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past: | Vì bấy giờ đã khá muộn, các môn đệ đến gần Người và thưa: “Ở đây hoang vắng và bây giờ đã khá muộn. | Καὶ ἤδη ὥρας πολλῆς γενομένης προσελθόντες αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸀ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἔρημός ἐστιν ὁ τόπος, καὶ ἤδη ὥρα πολλή· | Et cum jam hora multa fieret, accesserunt discipuli ejus, dicentes: Desertus est locus hic, et jam hora præteriit: | When it was late in the day, his disciples came to him and said, “This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.
Send them away, that going into the next villages and towns, they may buy themselves meat to eat. | dimitte illos, ut euntes in proximas villas et vicos, emant sibi cibos, quos manducent. | Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”
And he answering said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said to him: Let us go and buy bread for two hundred pence, and we will give them to eat. | But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?”
And he saith to them: How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they say: Five, and two fishes. | He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”
And he commanded them that they should make them all sit down by companies upon the green grass. | He commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.
