My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.Hỡi con, nếu con đã bảo lãnh cho một người bạn của mình,hay đã bắt tay giao kèo với một người xa lạ,Υἱέ, ἐὰν ἐγγυήσῃ σὸν φίλον, παραδώσεις σὴν χεῖρα ἐχθρῷ.בְּ֭נִי אִם עָרַ֣בְתָּ לְרֵעֶ֑ךָ תָּקַ֖עְתָּ לַזָּ֣ר כַּפֶּֽיךָ[Fili mi, si spoponderis pro amico tuo, defixisti apud extraneum manum tuam:My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger,
Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.nếu con bị trói buộc vì những điều con đã hứahay vướng mắc vì những lời con đã nói ra,παγὶς γὰρ ἰσχυρὰ ἀνδρὶ τὰ ἴδια χείλη, καὶ ἁλίσκεται χείλεσιν ἰδίου στόματος.נוֹקַ֥שְׁתָּ בְאִמְרֵי פִ֑יךָ נִ֝לְכַּ֗דְתָּ בְּאִמְרֵי פִֽיךָillaqueatus es verbis oris tui, et captus propriis sermonibus.you are trapped by the words of your mouth; you are ensnared with the words of your mouth.
Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:thì con ơi, khi đã trót rơi vào tay người bạn,muốn thoát thân, con phải làm điều nàylà hãy đi lạy lục van xin nó.ποίει, υἱέ, ἃ ἐγώ σοι ἐντέλλομαι, καὶ σώζου· ἥκεις γὰρ εἰς χεῖρας κακῶν διὰ σὸν φίλον· ἴσθι μὴ ἐκλυόμενος, παρόξυνε δὲ καὶ τὸν φίλον σου ὃν ἐνεγυήσω.עֲשֵׂ֨ה זֹ֥את אֵפ֪וֹא בְּנִ֡י וְֽהִנָּצֵ֗ל כִּ֘י בָ֤אתָ בְכַף רֵעֶ֑ךָ לֵ֥ךְ הִ֝תְרַפֵּ֗ס וּרְהַ֥ב רֵעֶֽיךָFac ergo quod dico, fili mi, et temetipsum libera, quia incidisti in manum proximi tui. Discurre, festina, suscita amicum tuum.Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.
Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.Đừng chớp mắt khép mi, chớ nghỉ ngơi yên giấc.μὴ δῷς ὕπνον σοῖς ὄμμασιν, μηδὲ ἐπινυστάξῃς σοῖς βλεφάροις,אַל תִּתֵּ֣ן שֵׁנָ֣ה לְעֵינֶ֑יךָ וּ֝תְנוּמָ֗ה לְעַפְעַפֶּֽיךָNe dederis somnum oculis tuis, nec dormitent palpebræ tuæ.Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.
Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.Hãy tìm cách thoát thân như linh dương thoát bẫy,như chim thoát khỏi tay người tìm bắt chim.ἵνα σώζῃ ὥσπερ δορκὰς ἐκ βρόχων καὶ ὥσπερ ὄρνεον ἐκ παγίδος. Eruere quasi damula de manu, et quasi avis de manu aucupis.]Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:Hỡi người biếng nhác, hãy đến xem loài kiến sống thế nàovà nhờ đó mà trở nên khôn.Ἴσθι πρὸς τὸν μύρμηκα, ὦ ὀκνηρέ, καὶ ζήλωσον ἰδὼν τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ γενοῦ ἐκείνου σοφώτερος·לֵֽךְ אֶל נְמָלָ֥ה עָצֵ֑ל רְאֵ֖ה דְרָכֶ֣יהָ וַחֲכָֽם[Vade ad formicam, o piger, et considera vias ejus, et disce sapientiam.Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;
Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,Nó chẳng có thủ trưởng,chẳng có giám sát, chẳng có lãnh đạo.ἐκείνῳ γὰρ γεωργίου μὴ ὑπάρχοντος, μηδὲ τὸν ἀναγκάζοντα ἔχων μηδὲ ὑπὸ δεσπότην ὤν,אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵֽין לָ֥הּ קָצִ֗ין שֹׁטֵ֥ר וּמֹשֵֽׁלQuæ cum non habeat ducem, nec præceptorem, nec principem, which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,

תָּכִ֣ין בַּקַּ֣יִץ לַחְמָ֑הּ אָגְרָ֥ה בַ֝קָּצִ֗יר מַאֲכָלָֽהּparat in æstate cibum sibi, et congregat in messe quod comedat.provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?Hỡi người biếng nhác, ngươi còn nằm đó tới bao giờ? Usquequo, piger, dormies? quando consurges e somno tuo?How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:Ngủ một chút, chợp mắt một chút, khoanh tay nằm một chút,ὀλίγον μὲν ὑπνοῖς, ὀλίγον δὲ κάθησαι, μικρὸν δὲ νυστάζεις, ὀλίγον δὲ ἐναγκαλίζῃ χερσὶν στήθη·מְעַ֣ט שֵׁ֭נוֹת מְעַ֣ט תְּנוּמ֑וֹת מְעַ֓ט חִבֻּ֖ק יָדַ֣יִם לִשְׁכָּֽבPaululum dormies, paululum dormitabis, paululum conseres manus ut dormias;A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep—
And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.là cái nghèo sẽ đến như tên du thủ du thực,cảnh bần cùng sẽ đột nhập như người có vũ trang.εἶτ᾽ ἐνπαραγίνεταί σοι ὥσπερ κακὸς ὁδοιπόρος ἡ πενία, καὶ ἡ ἔνδεια ὥσπερ ἀγαθὸς δρομεύς. Si vero impiger fueris, veniet ut fons messis tua, et egestas longe fugiet a te.]so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.
A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,Đây tên gian ác, đây đứa xấu xa,nó tới lui, miệng buông lời dối trá,Ἀνὴρ ἄφρων καὶ παράνομος πορεύεται ὁδοὺς οὐκ ἀγαθάς·אָדָ֣ם בְּ֭לִיַּעַל אִ֣ישׁ אָ֑וֶן ה֝וֹלֵ֗ךְ עִקְּשׁ֥וּת פֶּֽה[Homo apostata, vir inutilis, graditur ore perverso;A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth,
He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.nó nháy mắt, khều chân, dùng ngón tay ra hiệu.ὁ δ᾽ αὐτὸς ἐννεύει ὀφθαλμῷ, σημαίνει δὲ ποδί, διδάσκει δὲ ἐννεύμασιν δακτύλων·קֹרֵ֣ץ בְּ֭עֵינָו מֹלֵ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֑ו מֹ֝רֶ֗ה בְּאֶצְבְּעֹתָֽיוannuit oculis, terit pede, digito loquitur, who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers,
With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.Nó toan tính trong lòng mọi chước độc mưu thâm,lúc nào cũng gieo bất hoà, xung khắc.διεστραμμένῃ καρδίᾳ τεκταίνεται κακὰ, ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ· ὁ τοιοῦτος ταραχὰς συνίστησιν πόλει.תַּֽהְפֻּכ֨וֹת בְּלִבּ֗וֹ חֹרֵ֣שׁ רָ֣ע בְּכָל עֵ֑ת מדנים מִדְיָנִ֥ים יְשַׁלֵּֽחַpravo corde machinatur malum, et omni tempore jurgia seminat.in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.
To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.Thế nên tai hoạ sẽ giáng xuống nó thình lình,bất ngờ nó bị suy sụp, vô phương cứu chữa.διὰ τοῦτο ἐξαπίνης ἔρχεται ἡ ἀπώλεια αὐτοῦ, διακοπὴ καὶ συντριβὴ ἀνίατος·עַל כֵּ֗ן פִּ֭תְאֹם יָב֣וֹא אֵיד֑וֹ פֶּ֥תַע יִ֝שָּׁבֵ֗ר וְאֵ֣ין מַרְפֵּֽאHuic extemplo veniet perditio sua, et subito conteretur, nec habebit ultra medicinam.]Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.
Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:Có sáu điều làm ĐỨC CHÚA gớm ghét,có bảy điều khiến Người ghê tởm:ὅτι χαίρει πᾶσιν οἷς μισεῖ ὁ θεός, συντρίβεται δὲ δι᾽ ἀκαθαρσίαν ψυχῆς·שֶׁשׁ הֵ֭נָּה שָׂנֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וְ֝שֶׁ֗בַע תועבות תּוֹעֲבַ֥ת נַפְשֽׁוֹ[Sex sunt quæ odit Dominus, et septimum detestatur anima ejus:There are six things which the LORD hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,lòng mưu tính những chuyện xấu xa,chân mau mắn chạy đi làm điều dữ,καὶ καρδία τεκταινομένη λογισμοὺς κακούς, καὶ πόδες ἐπισπεύδοντες κακοποιεῖν.לֵ֗ב חֹ֭רֵשׁ מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֑וֶן רַגְלַ֥יִם מְ֝מַהֲר֗וֹת לָר֥וּץ לָֽרָעָהcor machinans cogitationes pessimas, pedes veloces ad currendum in malum,a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.Hỡi con, lệnh cha con truyền, hãy lo tuân giữ,lời mẹ con dạy, chớ bỏ ngoài tai.Υἱέ, My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.
Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck. Liga ea in corde tuo jugiter, et circumda gutturi tuo.Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.
When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them. When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.
Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:Vì huấn lệnh là ngọn đèn, lời dạy dỗ là ánh sáng,và lời quở trách bảo ban là đường dẫn tới sự sống,ὅτι λύχνος ἐντολὴ νόμου, καὶ φῶς ὁδὸς ζωῆς καὶ ἔλεγχος καὶ παιδεία,כִּ֤י נֵ֣ר מִ֭צְוָה וְת֣וֹרָה א֑וֹר וְדֶ֥רֶךְ חַ֝יִּ֗ים תּוֹכְח֥וֹת מוּסָֽרQuia mandatum lucerna est, et lex lux, et via vitæ increpatio disciplinæ:For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.nhờ đó con sẽ được giữ gìnkhỏi tay người đàn bà trắc nết,khỏi lời đường mật của người phụ nữ đã có chồng.τοῦ διαφυλάσσειν σε ἀπὸ γυναικὸς ὑπάνδρου καὶ ἀπὸ διαβολῆς γλώσσης ἀλλοτρίας.לִ֭שְׁמָרְךָ מֵאֵ֣שֶׁת רָ֑ע מֵֽ֝חֶלְקַ֗ת לָשׁ֥וֹן נָכְרִיָּֽהut custodiant te a muliere mala, et a blanda lingua extraneæ.to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.
Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:Đừng để sắc đẹp nó quyến rũ lòng con,đừng để ánh mắt nó làm con mê mẩn.μή σε νικήσῃ κάλλους ἐπιθυμία, μηδὲ ἀγρευθῇς σοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς, μηδὲ συναρπασθῇς ἀπὸ τῶν αὐτῆς βλεφάρων.אַל תַּחְמֹ֣ד יָ֭פְיָהּ בִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָ וְאַל תִּ֝קָּֽחֲךָ֗ בְּעַפְעַפֶּֽיהָNon concupiscat pulchritudinem ejus cor tuum, nec capiaris nutibus illius:Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.
For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.Vì gái điếm chỉ đòi một ổ bánh thôi,còn người phụ nữ đã có chồnglàm hỏng cả một cuộc đời cao quý.τιμὴ γὰρ πόρνης ὅση καὶ ἑνὸς ἄρτου, γυνὴ δὲ ἀνδρῶν τιμίας ψυχὰς ἀγρεύει. For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.
Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?Có ai giấu lửa trong người mà không bị cháy áo?ἀποδήσει τις πῦρ ἐν κόλπῳ, τὰ δὲ ἱμάτια οὐ κατακαύσει;הֲיַחְתֶּ֤ה אִ֓ישׁ אֵ֬שׁ בְּחֵיק֑וֹ וּ֝בְגָדָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִשָּׂרַֽפְנָה Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?
Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?Có ai đi trên than hồng mà không bị bỏng chân?ἢ περιπατήσει τις ἐπ᾽ ἀνθράκων πυρός, τοὺς δὲ πόδας οὐ κατακαύσει;אִם יְהַלֵּ֣ךְ אִ֭ישׁ עַל הַגֶּחָלִ֑ים וְ֝רַגְלָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִכָּוֶֽינָהaut ambulare super prunas, ut non comburantur plantæ ejus?Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her. So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.
The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:Chẳng ai khinh đứa đi ăn trộm chỉ vì đói mà muốn có ăn.οὐ θαυμαστὸν ἐὰν ἁλῷ τις κλέπτων, κλέπτει γὰρ ἵνα ἐμπλήσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν πεινῶν·לֹא יָב֣וּזוּ לַ֭גַּנָּב כִּ֣י יִגְנ֑וֹב לְמַלֵּ֥א נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ כִּ֣י יִרְעָֽבNon grandis est culpa cum quis furatus fuerit: furatur enim ut esurientem impleat animam;Men don’t despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry,
And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.Tuy nhiên nếu bị bắt,nó phải đền gấp bảy, phải giao mọi của cải trong nhà.ἐὰν δὲ ἁλῷ, ἀποτίσει ἑπταπλάσια, καὶ πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ δοὺς ῥύσεται ἑαυτόν·וְ֭נִמְצָא יְשַׁלֵּ֣ם שִׁבְעָתָ֑יִם אֶת כָּל ה֖וֹן בֵּית֣וֹ יִתֵּֽןdeprehensus quoque reddet septuplum, et omnem substantiam domus suæ tradet.but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.
But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:Đàn ông ngoại tình thì mất hết lý trí,người phạm tội ấy tự huỷ hoại đời mình.ὁ δὲ μοιχὸς δι᾽ ἔνδειαν φρενῶν ἀπώλειαν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ περιποιεῖται,נֹאֵ֣ף אִשָּׁ֣ה חֲסַר לֵ֑ב מַֽשְׁחִ֥ית נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ ה֣וּא יַעֲשֶֽׂנָּהQui autem adulter est, propter cordis inopiam perdet animam suam;He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.
He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:Nó phải ăn đòn và mang tiếng xấu,nỗi ô nhục của nó, không làm sao gột rửa.ὀδύνας τε καὶ ἀτιμίας ὑποφέρει· τὸ δὲ ὄνειδος αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐξαλειφθήσεται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.נֶֽגַע וְקָל֥וֹן יִמְצָ֑א וְ֝חֶרְפָּת֗וֹ לֹ֣א תִמָּחֶֽהturpitudinem et ignominiam congregat sibi, et opprobrium illius non delebitur:He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.
Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,Vì người chồng sẽ nổi cơn ghen,lúc trả thù, anh ta sẽ không mảy may thương xót.μεστὸς γὰρ ζήλου θυμὸς ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς, οὐ φείσεται ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κρίσεως·כִּֽי קִנְאָ֥ה חֲמַת גָּ֑בֶר וְלֹֽא יַ֝חְמ֗וֹל בְּי֣וֹם נָקָֽםquia zelus et furor viri non parcet in die vindictæ,For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.
Nor will he yield to any man’s prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.Mọi đền bù, anh ta sẽ không thèm nhận,có đưa bao quà cáp, cũng một mực chối từ.οὐκ ἀνταλλάξεται οὐδενὸς λύτρου τὴν ἔχθραν, οὐδὲ μὴ διαλυθῇ πολλῶν δώρων.לֹא יִ֭שָּׂא פְּנֵ֣י כָל כֹּ֑פֶר וְלֹֽא יֹ֝אבֶ֗ה כִּ֣י תַרְבֶּה שֹֽׁחַדnec acquiescet cujusquam precibus, nec suscipiet pro redemptione dona plurima.]He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
