Then Job answered the Lord, and said: | Ông Gióp thưa với ĐỨC CHÚA: | Ὑπολαβὼν δὲ Ἰὼβ λέγει τῷ κυρίῳ | וַיַּ֖עַן אִיּ֥וֹב אֶת יְהוָ֗ה וַיֹּאמַֽר | Respondens autem Job Domino, dixit: | Then Job answered the LORD:
I know that thou canst do all things, and no thought is hid from thee. | “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.
Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken unwisely, and things that above measure exceeded my knowledge. | You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ therefore I have uttered that which I didn’t understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.
Hear, and I will speak: I will ask thee, and do thou tell me. | You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’
With the hearing of the ear, I have heard thee, but now my eye seeth thee. | I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.
Therefore I reprehend myself, and do penance in dust and ashes. | עַל כֵּ֭ן אֶמְאַ֣ס וְנִחַ֑מְתִּי עַל עָפָ֥ר וָאֵֽפֶר | Idcirco ipse me reprehendo, et ago pœnitentiam in favilla et cinere.] | Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
And after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Themanite: My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends, because you have not spoken the thing that is right before my, as my servant Job hath. | וַיְהִ֗י אַחַ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶת הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה אֶל אִיּ֑וֹב וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל אֱלִיפַ֣ז הַתֵּֽימָנִ֗י חָרָ֨ה אַפִּ֤י בְךָ֙ וּבִשְׁנֵ֣י רֵעֶ֔יךָ כִּ֠י לֹ֣א דִבַּרְתֶּ֥ם אֵלַ֛י נְכוֹנָ֖ה כְּעַבְדִּ֥י אִיּֽוֹב | Postquam autem locutus est Dominus verba hæc ad Job, dixit ad Eliphaz Themanitem: Iratus est furor meus in te, et in duos amicos tuos, quoniam non estis locuti coram me rectum, sicut servus meus Job. | It was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.
Take unto you therefore seven oxen, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust: and my servant Job shall pray for you: his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you: for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath. | Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.”
So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job. | So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the LORD commanded them, and the LORD accepted Job.
The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. | The LORD restored Job’s prosperity when he prayed for his friends. The LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
And all his brethren came to him, and all his sisters, and all that knew him before, and they ate bread with him in his house: and bemoaned him, and comforted him upon all the evil that God had brought upon him. And every man gave him one ewe, and one earring of fold. | וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ אֵ֠לָיו כָּל אֶחָ֨יו וְכָל אחיתיו אַחְיוֹתָ֜יו וְכָל יֹדְעָ֣יו לְפָנִ֗ים וַיֹּאכְל֨וּ עִמּ֣וֹ לֶחֶם֮ בְּבֵיתוֹ֒ וַיָּנֻ֤דוּ לוֹ֙ וַיְנַחֲמ֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ עַ֚ל כָּל הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר הֵבִ֥יא יְהוָ֖ה עָלָ֑יו וַיִּתְּנוּ ל֗וֹ אִ֚ישׁ קְשִׂיטָ֣ה אֶחָ֔ת וְאִ֕ישׁ נֶ֥זֶם זָהָ֖ב אֶחָֽד | Venerunt autem ad eum omnes fratres sui, et universæ sorores suæ, et cuncti qui noverant eum prius, et comederunt cum eo panem in domo ejus: et moverunt super eum caput, et consolati sunt eum super omni malo quod intulerat Dominus super eum: et dederunt ei unusquisque ovem unam, et inaurem auream unam. | Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been of his acquaintance before, came to him and ate bread with him in his house. They comforted him, and consoled him concerning all the evil that the LORD had brought on him. Everyone also gave him a piece of money, and everyone a ring of gold.
And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. And he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. | So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.
And he had seven sons, and three daughters. | He had also seven sons and three daughters.
And he called the names of one Dies, and the name of the second Cassia, and the name of the third Cornustibil. | Ông đặt tên cho cô thứ nhất là “Bồ Câu”, cô thứ hai là “Hoa Quế” và cô thứ ba là “Phấn Thơm”. | He called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren Happuch.
And there were not found in all the earth women so beautiful as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. | וְלֹ֨א נִמְצָ֜א נָשִׁ֥ים יָפ֛וֹת כִּבְנ֥וֹת אִיּ֖וֹב בְּכָל הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֧ם אֲבִיהֶ֛ם נַחֲלָ֖ה בְּת֥וֹךְ אֲחֵיהֶֽם | Non sunt autem inventæ mulieres speciosæ sicut filiæ Job in universa terra: deditque eis pater suus hæreditatem inter fratres earum. | In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job. Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.
And Job lived after these things, a hundred and forty years, and he saw his children, and his children’s children, unto the fourth generation, and he died an old man, and full of days. | After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, to four generations.
| וַיָּ֣מָת אִיּ֔וֹב זָקֵ֖ן וּשְׂבַ֥ע יָמִֽים | — | So Job died, being old and full of days.
