And the sons of Ruben and Gad had many flocks of cattle, and their substance in beasts was infinite. And when they saw the lands of Jazer and Galaad fit for feeding cattle, | Con cái ông Rưu-vên và con cái ông Gát có nhiều đàn súc vật rất đông. Cumque vidissent Jazer et Galaad aptas animalibus alendis terras, | Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock. They saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead. Behold, the place was a place for livestock.
They came to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and the princes of the multitude, and said: | họ đến thưa với ông Mô-sê, với tư tế E-la-da và các thủ lãnh cộng đồng: | καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ υἱοὶ Ῥουβὴν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Γὰδ εἶπαν πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ πρὸς Ἐλεαζὰρ τὸν ἱερέα καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῆς συναγωγῆς λέγοντες | וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ בְנֵֽי גָ֖ד וּבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֶל מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאֶל אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶל נְשִׂיאֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר | venerunt ad Moysen, et ad Elezarum sacerdotem, et principes multitudinis, atque dixerunt: | Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,
Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nemra, Hesebon, and Eleale, and Saban, and Nebo, and Beon, | “Các thành A-ta-rốt, Đi-vôn, Gia-de, Nim-ra, Khét-bôn, En-a-lê, Xơ-vam, Nơ-vô và Bơ-ôn | Ἀταρὼθ καὶ Δαιβὼν καὶ Ἰαζὴρ καὶ Ναμβρὰ καὶ Ἑσεβὼν καὶ Ἐλεαλὴ καὶ Σεβαμὰ καὶ Ναβαὺ καὶ Βαιάν, | עֲטָר֤וֹת וְדִיבֹן֙ וְיַעְזֵ֣ר וְנִמְרָ֔ה וְחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶלְעָלֵ֑ה וּשְׂבָ֥ם וּנְב֖וֹ וּבְעֹֽן | Ataroth, et Dibon, et Jazer, et Nemra, Hesebon, et Eleale, et Saban, et Nebo, et Beon, | “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
The land, which the Lord hath conquered in the sight of the children of Israel, is a very fertile soil for the feeding of beasts: and we thy servants have very much cattle: | là vùng đất ĐỨC CHÚA đã đánh phạt trước cộng đồng Ít-ra-en, là vùng đất nuôi được súc vật. Mà các tôi tớ ngài lại có súc vật.” | הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִכָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לִפְנֵי֙ עֲדַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶ֥רֶץ מִקְנֶ֖ה הִ֑וא וְלַֽעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מִקְנֶֽה | terra, quam percussit Dominus in conspectu filiorum Israël, regio uberrima est ad pastum animalium: et nos servi tui habemus jumenta plurima, | the land which the LORD struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
And we pray thee, if we have found favour in thy sight, that thou give it to us thy servants in possession, and make us not pass over the Jordan. | וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ אִם מָצָ֤אנוּ חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ יֻתַּ֞ן אֶת הָאָ֧רֶץ הַזֹּ֛את לַעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ לַאֲחֻזָּ֑ה אַל תַּעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּֽן | precamurque si invenimus gratiam coram te, ut des nobis famulis tuis eam in possessionem, nec facias nos transire Jordanem. | They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan.”
And Moses answered them: What, shall your brethren go to fight, and will you sit here? | Ông Mô-sê nói với con cái ông Gát và con cái ông Rưu-vên: “Anh em của anh em phải ra chiến trường, mà anh em thì ở lại đây hay sao? | Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?
Why do ye overturn the minds of the children of Israel, that they may not dare to pass into the place which the Lord hath given them? | Tại sao anh em làm cho con cái Ít-ra-en phải nản lòng không muốn đi qua bên xứ mà ĐỨC CHÚA đã ban cho họ? | Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?
Was it not thus your fathers did, when I sent from Cadesbarne to view the land? | Cha ông anh em đã làm như thế, khi tôi sai họ đi từ Ca-đê Bác-nê-a để do thám xứ đó. | Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.
And when they were come as far as the valley of the cluster, having viewed all the country, they overturned the hearts of the children of Israel, that they should not enter into the coasts, which the Lord gave them. | Họ lên đến thung lũng Ét-côn; họ do thám xứ đó, rồi làm cho con cái Ít-ra-en nản lòng, để họ không vào xứ mà ĐỨC CHÚA đã ban cho họ. | For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.
And he swore in his anger, saying: | Nên trong ngày đó, cơn thịnh nộ của ĐỨC CHÚA bừng cháy; Người thề rằng: | καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ Κύριος ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ ὤμοσεν λέγων | וַיִּֽחַר אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע לֵאמֹֽר | Qui iratus juravit, dicens: | The LORD’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying,

And the Lord being angry against Israel, led them about through the desert forty years, until the whole generation, that had done evil in his sight, was consumed. | וַיִּֽחַר אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיְנִעֵם֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אַרְבָּעִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה עַד תֹּם֙ כָּל הַדּ֔וֹר הָעֹשֶׂ֥ה הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה | Iratusque Dominus adversum Israël, circumduxit eum per desertum quadraginta annis, donec consumeretur universa generatio, quæ fecerat malum in conspectu ejus. | The LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation who had done evil in the LORD’s sight was consumed.
And behold, said he, you are risen up instead of your fathers, the increase and offspring of sinful men, to augment the fury of the Lord against Israel. | Này đây, hỡi nòi tội nhân, anh em thay thế cha ông mình mà nổi dậy, khiến cơn thịnh nộ của ĐỨC CHÚA đối với Ít-ra-en càng tăng lên! | “Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.
