Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said: A man child is conceived. | יֹ֣אבַד י֭וֹם אִוָּ֣לֶד בּ֑וֹ וְהַלַּ֥יְלָה אָ֝מַ֗ר הֹ֣רָה גָֽבֶר | [Pereat dies in qua natus sum, et nox in qua dictum est: Conceptus est homo. | “Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’
Let that day be turned into darkness, let not God regard it from above, and let not the light shine upon it. | Phải chi ngày ấy là đêm tối,phải chi từ nơi cao thẳmThiên Chúa đừng để ý tới ngày ấy làm gì.Phải chi trên ngày ấy ánh sáng đừng chiếu rọi. | Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.
Let darkness, and the shadow of death cover it, let a mist overspread it, and let it be wrapped up in bitterness. | Phải chi trên ngày ấy tối tăm mờ mịt bao trùm,mây đen đến che phủ và sương mù bỗng dưng ập xuống. | Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.
Let a darksome whirlwind seize upon that night, let it not be counted in the days of the year, nor numbered in the months. | הַלַּ֥יְלָה הַהוּא֮ יִקָּחֵ֪ה֫וּ אֹ֥פֶל אַל יִ֭חַדְּ בִּימֵ֣י שָׁנָ֑ה בְּמִסְפַּ֥ר יְ֝רָחִ֗ים אַל יָבֹֽא | Noctem illam tenebrosus turbo possideat; non computetur in diebus anni, nec numeretur in mensibus. | As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.
Let that night be solitary, and not worthy of praise. | Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.
Let them curse it who curse the day. who are ready to raise up a leviathan: | Phải chi những kẻ đã nguyền rủa ngàyđã sãn sàng đánh thức con giao longcũng nguyền rủa đêm ấy. | Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.
Let the stars be darkened with the mist thereof: let it expect light and not see it, nor the rising of the dawning of the day: | Phải chi tinh tú ban mai thành tăm tối mịt mờ,và ban mai uổng công chờ ánh sáng,không hề thấy bình minh xuất hiện. | Let the stars of its twilight be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the morning,
Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, nor took away evils from my eyes. | Vì đêm ấy đã không đóng kín lòng dạ cưu mang tôikhiến mắt tôi khỏi nhìn thấy đau khổ. | כִּ֤י לֹ֣א סָ֭גַר דַּלְתֵ֣י בִטְנִ֑י וַיַּסְתֵּ֥ר עָ֝מָ֗ל מֵעֵינָֽי | Quia non conclusit ostia ventris qui portavit me, nec abstulit mala ab oculis meis. | because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.
Why did I not die in the womb, why did I not perish when I came out of the belly? | “Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
Why received upon the knees? why suckled at the breasts? | Sao lại có hai đầu gối đỡ lấy tôi,có đôi vú cho tôi bú mớm? | Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?
For now I should have been asleep and still, and should have rest in my sleep. | Chẳng vậy thì giờ đây tôi đã nằm xuống yên hàn,đã an giấc nghỉ ngơi | νῦν ἂν κοιμηθεὶς ἡσύχασα, ὑπνώσας δὲ ἀνεπαυσάμην | כִּֽי עַ֭תָּה שָׁכַ֣בְתִּי וְאֶשְׁק֑וֹט יָ֝שַׁ֗נְתִּי אָ֤ז יָנ֬וּחַֽ לִֽי | Nunc enim dormiens silerem, et somno meo requiescerem | For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,
With kings and consuls of the earth, who build themselves solitudes: | cùng các bậc vương hầu khanh tướngđã xây lăng xây mộ cho mình, | μετὰ βασιλέων βουλευτῶν γῆς, οἳ ἠγαυριῶντο ἐπὶ ξίφεσιν, | עִם מְ֭לָכִים וְיֹ֣עֲצֵי אָ֑רֶץ הַבֹּנִ֖ים חֳרָב֣וֹת לָֽמוֹ | cum regibus et consulibus terræ, qui ædificant sibi solitudines; | with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;
Or with princes, that possess gold, and All their houses with silver: | hay những bậc thủ lãnh vàng bạc chất đầy nhà. | ἢ μετὰ ἀρχόντων, ὧν πολὺς ὁ χρυσός, οἳ ἔπλησαν τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν ἀργυρίου, | א֣וֹ עִם שָׂ֭רִים זָהָ֣ב לָהֶ֑ם הַֽמְמַלְאִ֖ים בָּתֵּיהֶ֣ם כָּֽסֶף | aut cum principibus qui possident aurum, et replent domos suas argento; | or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
Or as a hidden untimely birth I should not be, or as they that being conceived have not seen the light. | or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, as infants who never saw light.
There the wicked cease from tumult, and there the wearied in strength are at rest. | There the wicked cease from troubling. There the weary are at rest.
And they sometime bound together without disquiet, have not heard the voice of the oppressor. | Kẻ tù đày được bình an thư thái,chẳng còn nghe giám thị quát mắng rầy la. | There the prisoners are at ease together. They don’t hear the voice of the taskmaster.

The servant is free from his master. |
Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to them that are in bitterness of soul? | Sao Người lại ban ánh sáng cho kẻ khốn cùng,ban sự sống cho ai nuốt cay ngậm đắng? | ἵνα τί γὰρ δέδοται τοῖς ἐν πικρίᾳ φῶς, ζωὴ δὲ ταῖς ἐν ὀδύναις ψυχαῖς; | לָ֤מָּה יִתֵּ֣ן לְעָמֵ֣ל א֑וֹר וְ֝חַיִּ֗ים לְמָ֣רֵי נָֽפֶשׁ | Quare misero data est lux, et vita his qui in amaritudine animæ sunt: | “Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul,

| 24 | Before I eat I sigh: and as overflowing waters, so is my roaring: | Quả thật, bánh tôi ăn chỉ là tiếng nức nở,tiếng tôi gào thét tựa nước lũ ngập tràn. | כִּֽי לִפְנֵ֣י לַ֭חְמִי אַנְחָתִ֣י תָבֹ֑א וַֽיִּתְּכ֥וּ כַ֝מַּ֗יִם שַׁאֲגֹתָֽי | Antequam comedam, suspiro; et tamquam inundantes aquæ, sic rugitus meus: | For my sighing comes before I eat.
