And the whole multitude of them rising up, led him to Pilate. The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.
And they began to accuse him, saying: We have found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he is Christ the king.Họ bắt đầu tố cáo Người rằng: “Chúng tôi đã phát giác ra tên này xách động dân tộc chúng tôi, và ngăn cản dân chúng nộp thuế cho hoàng đế Xê-da, lại còn xưng mình là Mê-si-a, là Vua nữa.”ἤρξαντο δὲ κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· Τοῦτον εὕραμεν διαστρέφοντα τὸ ἔθνος ⸀ἡμῶν καὶ κωλύοντα ⸂φόρους Καίσαρι⸃ διδόναι ⸀καὶ λέγοντα ⸀αὑτὸν χριστὸν βασιλέα εἶναι.Cœperunt autem illum accusare, dicentes: Hunc invenimus subvertentem gentem nostram, et prohibentem tributa dare Cæsari, et dicentem se Christum regem esse. They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”
And Pilate asked him, saying: Art thou the king of the Jews? But he answering, said: Thou sayest it.Ông Phi-la-tô hỏi Người: “Ông là vua dân Do-thái sao?” Pilatus autem interrogavit eum, dicens: Tu es rex Judæorum? At ille respondens ait: Tu dicis.Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”
And Pilate said to the chief priests and to the multitudes: I find no cause in this man.Ông Phi-la-tô nói với các thượng tế và đám đông: “Ta xét thấy người này không có tội gì.”ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ὄχλους· Οὐδὲν εὑρίσκω αἴτιον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ. Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
But they were more earnest, saying: He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place. At illi invalescebant, dicentes: Commovet populum docens per universam Judæam, incipiens a Galilæa usque huc.But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
But Pilate hearing Galilee, asked if the man were of Galilee?Nghe nói thế, ông Phi-la-tô liền hỏi xem đương sự có phải là người Ga-li-lê không.Πιλᾶτος δὲ ⸀ἀκούσας ἐπηρώτησεν εἰ ὁ ἄνθρωπος Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν,Pilatus autem audiens Galilæam, interrogavit si homo Galilæus esset. But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
And when he understood that he was of Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him away to Herod, who was also himself at Jerusalem, in those days.Và khi biết Người thuộc thẩm quyền vua Hê-rô-đê, ông liền cho áp giải Người đến với nhà vua lúc ấy cũng đang có mặt tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.καὶ ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι ἐκ τῆς ἐξουσίας Ἡρῴδου ἐστὶν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἡρῴδην, ὄντα καὶ αὐτὸν ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις ἐν ταύταις ταῖς ἡμέραις. When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
And Herod, seeing Jesus, was very glad; for he was desirous of a long time to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some sign wrought by him. Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.
And he questioned him in many words. But he answered him nothing. Interrogabat autem eum multis sermonibus. At ipse nihil illi respondebat. He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.
And the chief priests and the scribes stood by, earnestly accusing him.Các thượng tế và kinh sư đứng đó, tố cáo Người dữ dội.εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς εὐτόνως κατηγοροῦντες αὐτοῦ. The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.
And Herod with his army set him at nought, and mocked him, putting on him a white garment, and sent him back to Pilate. Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.
And Herod and Pilate were made friends, that same day; for before they were enemies one to another.Ngày hôm ấy, vua Hê-rô-đê và tổng trấn Phi-la-tô bắt đầu thân thiện với nhau, chứ trước kia hai bên vẫn hiềm thù. Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
And Pilate, calling together the chief priests, and the magistrates, and the people,Bấy giờ ông Phi-la-tô triệu tập các thượng tế, thủ lãnh và dân chúng lạiΠιλᾶτος δὲ συγκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τὸν λαὸνPilatus autem, convocatis principibus sacerdotum, et magistratibus, et plebe,Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
Said to them: You have presented unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people; and behold I, having examined him before you, find no cause in this man, in those things wherein you accuse him.mà nói: “Các người nộp người này cho ta, vì cho là tay kích động dân, nhưng ta đã hỏi cung ngay trước mặt các người, mà không thấy người này có tội gì, như các người tố cáo.εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας ⸀οὐθὲν εὗρον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατ’ αὐτοῦ.dixit ad illos: Obtulistis mihi hunc hominem, quasi avertentem populum, et ecce ego coram vobis interrogans, nullam causam inveni in homine isto ex his in quibus eum accusatis.and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and behold, having examined him before you, I found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.
No, nor Herod neither. For I sent you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done to him.Cả vua Hê-rô-đê cũng vậy, bởi lẽ nhà vua đã cho giải ông ấy lại cho chúng ta. Và các người thấy đó, ông ấy chẳng can tội gì đáng chết cả.ἀλλ’ οὐδὲ Ἡρῴδης, ⸂ἀνέπεμψεν γὰρ αὐτὸν πρὸς ἡμᾶς⸃· καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου ἐστὶν πεπραγμένον αὐτῷ·Sed neque Herodes: nam remisi vos ad illum, et ecce nihil dignum morte actum est ei.Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.
I will chastise him therefore, and release him.Vậy ta sẽ cho đánh đòn rồi thả ra.”παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ⸀ἀπολύσω.Emendatum ergo illum dimittam.I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
Now of necessity he was to release unto them one upon the feast day.Vào mỗi dịp lễ lớn, ông Phi-la-tô phải phóng thích cho họ một người tù.—Necesse autem habebat dimittere eis per diem festum unum. Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.
But the whole multitude together cried out, saying: Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:Nhưng tất cả mọi người đều la ó: “Giết nó đi, thả Ba-ra-ba cho chúng tôi!”⸀Ἀνέκραγον δὲ παμπληθεὶ λέγοντες· Αἶρε τοῦτον, ἀπόλυσον δὲ ἡμῖν ⸀τὸν Βαραββᾶν·Exclamavit autem simul universa turba, dicens: Tolle hunc, et dimitte nobis Barabbam:But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—
Who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for a murder, was cast into prison.Tên này đã bị tống ngục vì một vụ bạo động đã xảy ra trong thành, và vì tội giết người.ὅστις ἦν διὰ στάσιν τινὰ γενομένην ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ φόνον ⸂βληθεὶς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ⸃.qui erat propter seditionem quamdam factam in civitate et homicidium missus in carcerem.one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.
And Pilate again spoke to them, desiring to release Jesus.Ông Phi-la-tô muốn thả Đức Giê-su, nên lại lên tiếng một lần nữa.πάλιν ⸀δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ⸀προσεφώνησεν, θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν. Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,
But they cried again, saying: Crucify him, crucify him. At illi succlamabant, dicentes: Crucifige, crucifige eum.but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
And he said to them the third time: Why, what evil hath this man done? I find no cause of death in him. I will chastise him therefore, and let him go.Lần thứ ba, ông Phi-la-tô nói với họ: “Nhưng ông ấy đã làm điều gì gian ác? He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”
But they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified; and their voices prevailed.Nhưng họ cứ la to hơn, nhất định đòi phải đóng đinh Người. At illi instabant vocibus magnis postulantes ut crucifigeretur: et invalescebant voces eorum. But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.Ông Phi-la-tô quyết định chấp thuận điều họ yêu cầu.⸀καὶ Πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινεν γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν·Et Pilatus adjudicavit fieri petitionem eorum.Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.
And he released unto them him who for murder and sedition, had been cast into prison, whom they had desired; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.Ông phóng thích người tù họ xin tha, tức là tên bị tống ngục vì tội bạo động và giết người. Còn Đức Giê-su thì ông trao nộp theo ý họ muốn. He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.
And as they led him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country; and they laid the cross on him to carry after Jesus. When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry it after Jesus.
And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented him.Dân chúng đi theo Người đông lắm, trong số đó có nhiều phụ nữ vừa đấm ngực vừa than khóc Người.Ἠκολούθει δὲ αὐτῷ πολὺ πλῆθος τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γυναικῶν ⸀αἳ ἐκόπτοντο καὶ ἐθρήνουν αὐτόν. A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.
But Jesus turning to them, said: Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not over me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children.Đức Giê-su quay lại phía các bà mà nói: “Hỡi chị em thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, đừng khóc thương tôi làm gì. Có khóc thì khóc cho phận mình và cho con cháu.στραφεὶς δὲ πρὸς αὐτὰς ⸀ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Θυγατέρες Ἰερουσαλήμ, μὴ κλαίετε ἐπ’ ἐμέ· πλὴν ἐφ’ ἑαυτὰς κλαίετε καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν,Conversus autem ad illas Jesus, dixit: Filiæ Jerusalem, nolite flere super me, sed super vos ipsas flete et super filios vestros. But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
For behold, the days shall come, wherein they will say: Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the paps that have not given suck.Vì này đây sẽ tới những ngày người ta phải nói: ‘Phúc thay đàn bà hiếm hoi, người không sinh không đẻ, kẻ không cho bú mớm!’ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἔρχονται ἡμέραι ἐν αἷς ἐροῦσιν Μακάριαι αἱ στεῖραι καὶ ⸀αἱ κοιλίαι αἳ οὐκ ἐγέννησαν καὶ μαστοὶ οἳ οὐκ ⸀ἔθρεψαν. For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains: Fall upon us; and to the hills: Cover us.Bấy giờ người ta sẽ bắt đầu nói với núi non: Đổ xuống chúng tôi đi!, và với gò nổng: Phủ lấp chúng tôi đi!τότε ἄρξονται λέγειν τοῖς ὄρεσιν· Πέσετε ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς, καὶ τοῖς βουνοῖς· Καλύψατε ἡμᾶς·Tunc incipient dicere montibus: Cadite super nos; et collibus: Operite nos. Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’
For if in the green wood they do these things, what shall be done in the dry?Vì cây xanh tươi mà người ta còn đối xử như thế, thì cây khô héo sẽ ra sao?”ὅτι εἰ ἐν ⸀τῷ ὑγρῷ ξύλῳ ταῦτα ποιοῦσιν, ἐν τῷ ξηρῷ τί γένηται;Quia si in viridi ligno hæc faciunt, in arido quid fiet? For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”
And there were also two other malefactors led with him to be put to death.Có hai tên gian phi cũng bị điệu đi hành quyết cùng với Người. There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.
And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, they crucified him there; and the robbers, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. But they, dividing his garments, cast lots.Bấy giờ Đức Giê-su cầu nguyện rằng: “Lạy Cha, xin tha cho họ, vì họ không biết việc họ làm.” Dividentes vero vestimenta ejus, miserunt sortes.Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
And the people stood beholding, and the rulers with them derided him, saying: He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the elect of God.Dân chúng đứng nhìn, còn các thủ lãnh thì buông lời cười nhạo: “Hắn đã cứu người khác, thì cứu lấy mình đi, nếu thật hắn là Đấng Ki-tô của Thiên Chúa, là người được tuyển chọn!”καὶ εἱστήκει ὁ λαὸς θεωρῶν. The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,Lính tráng cũng chế giễu Người. Chúng lại gần, đưa giấm cho Người uống⸀ἐνέπαιξαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ στρατιῶται προσερχόμενοι, ⸀ὄξος προσφέροντες αὐτῷIlludebant autem ei et milites accedentes, et acetum offerentes ei,The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,
And saying: If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.và nói: “Nếu ông là vua dân Do-thái thì cứu lấy mình đi!”καὶ λέγοντες· Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων, σῶσον σεαυτόν.et dicentes: Si tu es rex Judæorum, salvum te fac.and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
And there was also a superscription written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.Phía trên đầu Người, có bản án viết: “Đây là vua người Do-thái.”ἦν δὲ καὶ ⸀ἐπιγραφὴ ἐπ’ ⸀αὐτῷ· Ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων ⸀οὗτος. An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
And one of those robbers who were hanged, blasphemed him, saying: If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.Một trong hai tên gian phi bị treo trên thập giá cũng nhục mạ Người: “Ông không phải là Đấng Ki-tô sao? One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”
But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither dost thou fear God, seeing thou art condemned under the same condemnation?Nhưng tên kia mắng nó: “Mày đang chịu chung một hình phạt, vậy mà cả Thiên Chúa, mày cũng không biết sợ!ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἕτερος ⸂ἐπιτιμῶν αὐτῷ ἔφη⸃· Οὐδὲ φοβῇ σὺ τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ κρίματι εἶ;Respondens autem alter increpabat eum, dicens: Neque tu times Deum, quod in eadem damnatione es.But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man hath done no evil. Et nos quidem juste, nam digna factis recipimus: hic vero nihil mali gessit. And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”
And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom.Rồi anh ta thưa với Đức Giê-su: “Ông Giê-su ơi, khi ông vào Nước của ông, xin nhớ đến tôi!”καὶ ⸀ἔλεγεν· Ἰησοῦ, μνήσθητί ⸀μου ὅταν ἔλθῃς ⸂ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ⸃ σου. He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.Và Người nói với anh ta: “Tôi bảo thật anh, hôm nay, anh sẽ được ở với tôi trên Thiên Đàng.”Mt 27,45-51; Mc 15,33-38; Ga 19,28-30καὶ εἶπεν ⸀αὐτῷ· Ἀμήν ⸂σοι λέγω⸃ σήμερον μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἔσῃ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ.Et dixit illi Jesus: Amen dico tibi: hodie mecum eris in paradiso.Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
And it was almost the sixth hour; and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.Bấy giờ đã gần tới giờ thứ sáu, thế mà bóng tối bao phủ khắp mặt đất, mãi đến giờ thứ chín.⸂Καὶ ἦν⸃ ⸀ἤδη ὡσεὶ ὥρα ἕκτη καὶ σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ’ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτηςErat autem fere hora sexta, et tenebræ factæ sunt in universam terram usque ad horam nonam. It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.Mặt trời ngưng chiếu sáng. The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
And Jesus crying out with a loud voice, said: Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. And saying this, he gave up the ghost.Đức Giê-su kêu lớn tiếng: “Lạy Cha, con xin phó thác hồn con trong tay Cha.” Nói xong, Người tắt thở. Et clamans voce magna Jesus ait: Pater, in manus tuas commendo spiritum meum. Et hæc dicens, expiravit.Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.
