And they went forward and encamped in the plains of Moab, over against where Jericho is situate beyond the Jordan. וַיִּסְע֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ בְּעַֽרְב֣וֹת מוֹאָ֔ב מֵעֵ֖בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֥ן יְרֵחֽוֹProfectique castrametati sunt in campestribus Moab, ubi trans Jordanem Jericho sita est.The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.
And Balac the son of Sephor, seeing all that Israel had done to the Amorrhite,Vua Ba-lác, con vua Xíp-po, đã thấy tất cả những gì Ít-ra-en gây cho người E-mô-ri.Καὶ ἰδὼν Βαλὰκ υἱὸς Σεπφὼρ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν Ἰσραὴλ τῷ Ἀμορραίῳ,וַיַּ֥רְא בָּלָ֖ק בֶּן צִפּ֑וֹר אֵ֛ת כָּל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לָֽאֱמֹרִֽיVidens autem Balac filius Sephor omnia quæ fecerat Israël Amorrhæo,Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
And that the Moabites were in great fear of him, and were not able to sustain his assault,Người Mô-áp khiếp sợ trước đám dân đó, vì họ quá đông. וַיָּ֨גָר מוֹאָ֜ב מִפְּנֵ֥י הָעָ֛ם מְאֹ֖ד כִּ֣י רַב ה֑וּא וַיָּ֣קָץ מוֹאָ֔ב מִפְּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽלet quod pertimuissent eum Moabitæ, et impetum ejus ferre non possent,Moab was very afraid of the people, because they were many. Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
He said to the elders of Madian: So will this people destroy all that dwell in our borders, as the ox is wont to eat the grass to the very roots. Now he was at that time king in Moab.Mô-áp nói với các kỳ mục Ma-đi-an rằng: “Này đám người ấy sẽ ngốn hết chung quanh chúng ta, như bò ngốn cỏ ngoài đồng.” Ipse erat eo tempore rex in Moab.Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this multitude will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.
He sent therefore messengers to Balaam the son of Beer, a soothsayer, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, and to say: Behold a people is come out of Egypt, that hath covered the face of the earth, sitting over against me.Vua liền sai các sứ giả đến mời Bi-lơ-am, con của Bơ-o, ở Pơ-tho, gần sông Cả, trong đất của con cái Am-mon. וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח מַלְאָכִ֜ים אֶל בִּלְעָ֣ם בֶּן בְּע֗וֹר פְּ֠תוֹרָה אֲשֶׁ֧ר עַל הַנָּהָ֛ר אֶ֥רֶץ בְּנֵי עַמּ֖וֹ לִקְרֹא ל֑וֹ לֵאמֹ֗ר הִ֠נֵּה עַ֣ם יָצָ֤א מִמִּצְרַ֨יִם֙ הִנֵּ֤ה כִסָּה֙ אֶת עֵ֣ין הָאָ֔רֶץ וְה֥וּא יֹשֵׁ֖ב מִמֻּלִֽיMisit ergo nuntios ad Balaam filium Beor ariolum, qui habitabat super flumen terræ filiorum Ammon, ut vocarent eum, et dicerent: Ecce egressus est populus ex Ægypto, qui operuit superficiem terræ, sedens contra me.He sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, “Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt. Behold, they cover the surface of the earth, and they are staying opposite me.
Come therefore, and curse this people, because it is mightier than I: if by any means I may beat them and drive them out of my land: for I know that he whom thou shalt bless is blessed, and he whom thou shalt curse is cursed.Bây giờ xin ông đến nguyền rủa dân đó cho ta, vì nó mạnh hơn ta. May ra nhờ thế ta có thể đánh bại được nó và đuổi nó ra khỏi lãnh thổ của ta. Perhaps I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”
And the ancients of Moab, and the elders of Madian, went with the price of divination in their hands. And when they were come to Balaam, and had told him all the words of Balac:Các kỳ mục Mô-áp và các kỳ mục Ma-đi-an đã lên đường, cầm theo tiền thù lao cho lời sấm; họ tới gặp ông Bi-lơ-am và chuyển tới ông lời của vua Ba-lác.καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἡ γερουσία Μωὰβ καὶ ἡ γερουσία Μαδιάμ, καὶ τὰ μαντεῖα ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν· καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Βαλαὰμ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ τὰ ῥήματα Βαλάκ. Cumque venissent ad Balaam, et narrassent ei omnia verba Balac,The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand. They came to Balaam, and spoke to him the words of Balak.
He answered: Tarry here this night, and I will answer whatsoever the Lord shall say to me. And while they stayed with Balaam, God came and said to him:Ông nói với họ: “Mời các ông qua đêm ở đây, rồi tôi sẽ trả lời cho các ông theo như ĐỨC CHÚA nói với tôi.” Manentibus illis apud Balaam, venit Deus, et ait ad eum:He said to them, “Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak to me.” The princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.
What mean these men that are with thee? Quid sibi volunt homines isti apud te?God came to Balaam, and said, “Who are these men with you?”

Now, come curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.’”
And God said to Balaam: Thou shalt not go with them, nor shalt thou curse the people: because it is blessed.Bấy giờ Thiên Chúa phán bảo ông Bi-lơ-am: “Ngươi không được đi với chúng! God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. 13And he rose in the morning and said to the princes: Go into your country, because the Lord hath forbid me to come with you.Sáng hôm sau ông Bi-lơ-am trỗi dậy và nói với các thủ lãnh vua Ba-lác đã sai đến, rằng: “Các ông hãy trở về xứ các ông; ĐỨC CHÚA đã từ chối không để cho tôi đi với các ông.”καὶ ἀναστὰς Βαλαὰμ τὸ πρωὶ εἶπεν τοῖς ἄρχουσιν Βαλάκ Ἀποτρέχετε πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὑμῶν· οὐκ ἀφίησίν με ὁ θεὸς πορεύεσθαι μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν. Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, “Go to your land; for the LORD refuses to permit me to go with you.”
The princes returning, said to Balac: Balaam would not come with us.Vậy các thủ lãnh Mô-áp trỗi dậy, trở về với vua Ba-lác và nói: “Ông Bi-lơ-am đã từ chối không chịu cùng đến với chúng tôi.”καὶ ἀναστάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες Μωὰβ ἦλθον πρὸς Βαλὰκ καὶ εἶπαν Οὐ θέλει Βαλαὰμ πορευθῆναι μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν. Reversi principes dixerunt ad Balac: Noluit Balaam venire nobiscum. The princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, “Balaam refuses to come with us.”
Then he sent many more and more noble than he had sent before:Một lần nữa vua Ba-lác lại sai các thủ lãnh đông hơn và có thế giá hơn những người trước.καὶ προσέθετο Βαλὰκ ἔτι ἀποστεῖλαι ἄρχοντας πλείους καὶ ἐντιμοτέρους τούτων. Balak again sent princes, more, and more honorable than they.

Balaam answered: If Balac would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot alter the word of the Lord my God, to speak either more or less. Balaam answered the servants of Balak, “If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

God therefore came to Balaam in the night, and said to him: It these men be come to call thee, arise and go with them: yet so, that thou do what I shall command thee.Đêm ấy Thiên Chúa đến với ông Bi-lơ-am và phán bảo ông: “Những người ấy đến, không phải để gọi ngươi đó sao? 21Balaam arose in the morning, and saddling his ass went with them.Sáng ngày, ông Bi-lơ-am trỗi dậy, thắng con lừa cái của mình và lên đường với các thủ lãnh Mô-áp.καὶ ἀναστὰς Βαλαὰμ τὸ πρωὶ ἐπέσαξεν τὴν ὄνον αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετὰ τῶν ἀρχόντων Μωάβ. Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

The angel stood in a narrow place between two walls, wherewith the vineyards were enclosed.Bấy giờ thần sứ của ĐỨC CHÚA đứng chặn tại một đường mòn giữa các vườn nho, tả hữu có tường.καὶ ἔστη ὁ ἄγγελος τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ταῖς αὔλαξιν τῶν ἀμπέλων, φραγμὸς ἐντεῦθεν καὶ φραγμὸς ἐντεῦθεν·וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ מַלְאַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֔ה בְּמִשְׁע֖וֹל הַכְּרָמִ֑ים גָּדֵ֥ר מִזֶּ֖ה וְגָדֵ֥ר מִזֶּֽהstetit angelus in angustiis duarum maceriarum, quibus vineæ cingebantur. Then the LORD’s angel stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

And nevertheless the angel going on to a narrow place, where there was no way to turn aside either to the right hand or to the left, stood to meet him. The LORD’s angel went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
And when the ass saw the angel standing, she fell under the feet of the rider: who being angry beat her sides more vehemently with a staff.Con lừa trông thấy thần sứ của ĐỨC CHÚA, liền nằm bẹp xuống bên dưới ông Bi-lơ-am. 28And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said: What have I done to thee? 34Balaam said: I have sinned, not knowing that thou didst stand against me: and now if it displease thee that I go, I will return.Ông Bi-lơ-am thưa với thần sứ của ĐỨC CHÚA: “Tôi đã trót phạm tội, vì tôi không biết là Ngài đứng chặn đường không cho tôi đi. 35The angel said: Go with these men, and see thou speak no other thing than what I shall command thee. He went therefore with the princes.
