And when king Arad the Chanaanite, who dwelt towards the south, had heard this, to wit, that Israel was come by the way of the spies, he fought against them, and overcoming them carried off their spoils. | Vua A-rát, người Ca-na-an, cư ngụ tại Ne-ghép, nghe biết Ít-ra-en theo đường A-tha-rim mà tới, thì đã tấn công Ít-ra-en và bắt được một số tù binh. | The Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the South, heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim. He fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.
But Israel binding himself by vow to the Lord, said: It thou wilt deliver this people into my hand, I will utterly destroy their cities. | וַיִּדַּ֨ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל נֶ֛דֶר לַֽיהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר אִם נָתֹ֨ן תִּתֵּ֜ן אֶת הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדִ֔י וְהַֽחֲרַמְתִּ֖י אֶת עָרֵיהֶֽם | At Israël voto se Domino obligans, ait: Si tradideris populum istum in manu mea, delebo urbes ejus. | Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”
And the Lord heard the prayers of Israel, and delivered up the Chanaanite, and they cut them off and destroyed their cities: and they called the name of that place Horma, that is to say, Anathema. | The LORD listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities. The name of the place was called Hormah.
And they marched from mount Hor, by the way that leadeth to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom. And the people began to be weary of their journey and labour: | Từ núi Ho, họ lên đường theo đường Biển Sậy, vòng qua lãnh thổ Ê-đôm; trong cuộc hành trình qua sa mạc, dân Ít-ra-en mất kiên nhẫn. Et tædere cœpit populum itineris ac laboris: | They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey.
And speaking against God and Moses, they said: Why didst thou bring us out of Egypt, to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, nor have we any waters: our soul now loatheth this very light food. | וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר הָעָ֗ם בֵּֽאלֹהִים֮ וּבְמֹשֶׁה֒ לָמָ֤ה הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֨נוּ֙ מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם לָמ֖וּת בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין לֶ֨חֶם֙ וְאֵ֣ין מַ֔יִם וְנַפְשֵׁ֣נוּ קָ֔צָה בַּלֶּ֖חֶם הַקְּלֹקֵֽל | locutusque contra Deum et Moysen, ait: Cur eduxisti nos de Ægypto, ut moreremur in solitudine? deest panis, non sunt aquæ: anima nostra jam nauseat super cibo isto levissimo. | The people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, there is no water, and our soul loathes this disgusting food!”
Wherefore the Lord sent among the people fiery serpents, which bit them and killed many of them. | וַיְשַׁלַּ֨ח יְהוָ֜ה בָּעָ֗ם אֵ֚ת הַנְּחָשִׁ֣ים הַשְּׂרָפִ֔ים וַֽיְנַשְּׁכ֖וּ אֶת הָעָ֑ם וַיָּ֥מָת עַם רָ֖ב מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל | Quam ob rem misit Dominus in populum ignitos serpentes, ad quorum plagas et mortes plurimorum, | The LORD sent venomous snakes among the people, and they bit the people. Many people of Israel died.
Upon which they came to Moses, and said: We have sinned, because we have spoken against the Lord and thee: pray that he may take away these serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. Oravitque Moyses pro populo, | The people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses prayed for the people.
And the Lord said to him: Make brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: whosoever being struck shall look on it, shall live. | The LORD said to Moses, “Make a venomous snake, and set it on a pole. It shall happen that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
Moses therefore made a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: which when they that were bitten looked upon, they were healed. | Moses made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the pole. If a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the serpent of bronze, he lived.
And the children of Israel setting forwards camped in Oboth. | Con cái Ít-ra-en đã lên đường và đóng trại ở Ô-vốt. | וַיִּסְע֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּאֹבֹֽת | Profectique filii Israël castrametati sunt in Oboth. | The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in Oboth.
And departing thence they pitched their tents in Jeabarim, in the wilderness, that faceth Moab toward the east. | Rồi họ lại rời Ô-vốt lên đường và đóng trại ở I-giê Ha A-va-rim trong sa mạc, đối diện với Mô-áp, ở phía đông. | וַיִּסְע֖וּ מֵאֹבֹ֑ת וַֽיַּחֲנ֞וּ בְּעִיֵּ֣י הָֽעֲבָרִ֗ים בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל פְּנֵ֣י מוֹאָ֔ב מִמִּזְרַ֖ח הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ | Unde egressi fixere tentoria in Jeabarim, in solitudine quæ respicit Moab contra orientalem plagam. | They traveled from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.
And removing from thence, they came to the torrent Zared: | Từ đó họ lên đường và đóng ở suối De-rét. | From there they traveled, and encamped in the valley of Zered.
Which they left and encamped over against Arnon, which is in the desert and standeth out on the borders of the Amorrhite. For Arnon is the border of Moab, dividing the Moabites and the Amorrhites. Siquidem Arnon terminus est Moab, dividens Moabitas et Amorrhæos. | From there they traveled, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord: As he did in the Red Sea, so will he do in the streams of Amen. | Bởi thế có lời trong cuốn “Chiến sử của ĐỨC CHÚA” rằng:“Đánh chiếm Va-hếp tại Xu-pha, đánh chiếm luôn suối Ác-nôn, | διὰ τοῦτο λέγεται ἐν βιβλίῳ Πόλεμος τοῦ κυρίου Τὴν Ζωὸβ ἐφλόγισεν καὶ τοὺς χειμάρρους Ἀρνών· | עַל כֵּן֙ יֵֽאָמַ֔ר בְּסֵ֖פֶר מִלְחֲמֹ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה אֶת וָהֵ֣ב בְּסוּפָ֔ה וְאֶת הַנְּחָלִ֖ים אַרְנֽוֹן | Unde dicitur in libro bellorum Domini: [Sicut fecit in mari Rubro, sic faciet in torrentibus Arnon. | Therefore it is said in The Book of the Wars of the LORD, “Vaheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,

When they went from that place, the well appeared whereof the Lord said to Moses: Gather the people together, and I will give them water. | From there they traveled to Beer; that is the well of which the LORD said to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”
Then Israel sung this song: Let the well spring up. They sung thereto: | Bấy giờ Ít-ra-en xướng lên bài ca này:“Vọt lên đi nào, mạch giếng ơi!Các bạn hãy ca mừng giếng nước! Concinebant: | Then Israel sang this song: “Spring up, well! | 23 | And he would not grant that Israel should pass by his borders: but rather gathering an army, went forth to meet them in the desert, and came to Jasa, and fought against them. | וְלֹא נָתַ֨ן סִיחֹ֣ן אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ עֲבֹ֣ר בִּגְבֻלוֹ֒ וַיֶּאֱסֹ֨ף סִיחֹ֜ן אֶת כָּל עַמּ֗וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֞א לִקְרַ֤את יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַמִּדְבָּ֔רָה וַיָּבֹ֖א יָ֑הְצָה וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל | Qui concedere noluit ut transiret Israël per fines suos: quin potius exercitu congregato, egressus est obviam in desertum, et venit in Jasa, pugnavitque contra eum. | Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz. | 26 | Hesebon was the city of Sehon the king of the Amorrhites, who fought against the king of Moab: and took all the land, that had been of his dominions, as far as the Arnon. | For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.
Therefore it is said in the proverb: Come into Hesebon, let the city of Sehon be built and set up: | Vì thế, thi nhân có lời rằng:“Hãy đến Khét-bôn mà xây dựng lại,cho kinh thành Xi-khôn được củng cố! | διὰ τοῦτο ἐροῦσιν οἱ αἰνιγματισταί Ἔλθετε εἰς Ἑσεβών, ἵνα οἰκοδομηθῇ καὶ κατασκευασθῇ πόλις Σηών. | עַל כֵּ֛ן יֹאמְר֥וּ הַמֹּשְׁלִ֖ים בֹּ֣אוּ חֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן תִּבָּנֶ֥ה וְתִכּוֹנֵ֖ן עִ֥יר סִיחֽוֹן | Idcirco dicitur in proverbio: [Venite in Hesebon: ædificetur, et construatur civitas Sehon: | Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, “Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;
A fire is gone out of Hesebon, a flame from the city of Sehon, and hath consumed Ar of the Moabites, and the inhabitants of the high places of the Arnon. | for a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.
Woe to thee Moab: thou art undone, O people of Chamos. He hath given his sons to flight, and his daughters into captivity to Sehon the king of the Amorrhites. He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.
Their yoke is perished from Hesebon unto Dibon, they came weary to Nophe, and unto Medaba. | וַנִּירָ֛ם אָבַ֥ד חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן עַד דִּיב֑וֹן וַנַּשִּׁ֣ים עַד נֹ֔פַח אֲשֶׁ֖רׄ עַד מֵֽידְבָֽא | Jugum ipsorum disperiit ad Hesebon usque Dibon: lassi pervenerunt in Nophe, et usque Medaba.] | We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon. We have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba.”
So Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorrhite. | Ít-ra-en đã định cư trên đất người E-mô-ri. | וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּאֶ֖רֶץ הָאֱמֹרִֽי | Habitavit itaque Israël in terra Amorrhæi. | Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
And Moses sent some to take a view of Jazer: and they took the villages of it, and conquered the inhabitants. | Moses sent to spy out Jazer. They took its villages, and drove out the Amorites who were there.
And they turned themselves, and went up by the way of Basan, and Og the king of Basan came against them with all his people, to fight in Edrai. | וַיִּפְנוּ֙ וַֽיַּעֲל֔וּ דֶּ֖רֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֑ן וַיֵּצֵ֣א עוֹג֩ מֶֽלֶךְ הַבָּשָׁ֨ן לִקְרָאתָ֜ם ה֧וּא וְכָל עַמּ֛וֹ לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אֶדְרֶֽעִי | Verteruntque se, et ascenderunt per viam Basan, et occurrit eis Og, rex Basan, cum omni populo suo, pugnaturus in Edrai. | They turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
And the Lord said to Moses: Fear him not, for I have delivered him and all his people, and his country into thy hand: and thou shalt do to him as thou didst to Sehon the king of the Amorrhites, the inhabitant of Hesebon. | Nhưng ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê: “Đừng sợ nó, vì Ta đã trao nó cùng tất cả dân cư và đất đai của nó vào tay ngươi. Ngươi hãy xử với nó như đã xử với Xi-khôn, vua dân E-mô-ri ở Khét-bôn.” | וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה֙ אַל תִּירָ֣א אֹת֔וֹ כִּ֣י בְיָדְךָ֞ נָתַ֧תִּי אֹת֛וֹ וְאֶת כָּל עַמּ֖וֹ וְאֶת אַרְצ֑וֹ וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ לּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֗יתָ לְסִיחֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּחֶשְׁבּֽוֹן | Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen: Ne timeas eum, quia in manu tua tradidi illum, et omnem populum ac terram ejus: faciesque illi sicut fecisti Sehon, regi Amorrhæorum habitatori Hesebon. | The LORD said to Moses, “Don’t fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people, and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
So they slew him also with his sons, and all his people, not letting any one escape, and they possessed his land. | So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.
