And it came to pass, that on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, with the ancients, met together,Một hôm, đang khi Đức Giê-su giảng dạy cho dân trong Đền Thờ và loan báo Tin Mừng, thì các thượng tế và kinh sư cùng các kỳ mục kéo đếnΚαὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ⸀ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις,Et factum est in una dierum, docente illo populum in templo, et evangelizante, convenerunt principes sacerdotum, et scribæ cum senioribus,On one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
And spoke to him, saying: Tell us, by what authority dost thou these things? or, Who is he that hath given thee this authority?và nói với Người rằng: “Xin ông cho chúng tôi biết: ông lấy quyền nào mà làm các điều ấy? Hay ai là người đã cho ông quyền ấy?”καὶ εἶπαν ⸂λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν⸃· Εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην;et aiunt dicentes ad illum: Dic nobis in qua potestate hæc facis? aut quis est qui dedit tibi hanc potestatem? They asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”
And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one thing. Answer me:Đức Giê-su đáp: “Tôi cũng vậy, tôi hỏi các ông một điều, xin nói cho tôi biết:ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς ⸀κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι·Respondens autem Jesus, dixit ad illos: Interrogabo vos et ego unum verbum. Respondete mihi:He answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?phép rửa của ông Gio-an là do Trời hay do người ta?”Τὸ βάπτισμα Ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων;baptismus Joannis de cælo erat, an ex hominibus?the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?”
But they thought within themselves, saying: If we shall say, From heaven: he will say: Why then did you not believe him?Họ liền bàn tính với nhau: “Nếu mình nói: ‘Do Trời’, thì ông ấy sẽ vặn lại: ‘Thế sao các ông lại không tin ông ấy?’οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι Ἐὰν εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ· Διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;At illi cogitabant intra se, dicentes: Quia si dixerimus: De cælo, dicet: Quare ergo non credidistis illi? They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’
But if we say, Of men, the whole people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.Còn nếu mình nói: ‘Do người ta’, thì toàn dân sẽ ném đá mình, vì họ xác tín rằng ông Gio-an là một ngôn sứ.”ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ⸂ὁ λαὸς ἅπας⸃ καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν Ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι·Si autem dixerimus: Ex hominibus, plebs universa lapidabit nos: certi sunt enim Joannem prophetam esse. But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”
And they answered, that they knew not whence it was.Họ mới trả lời là họ không biết do đâu.καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν.Et responderunt se nescire unde esset. They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
And Jesus said to them: Neither do I tell thee by what authority I do these things.Đức Giê-su liền bảo họ: “Tôi cũng vậy, tôi cũng không nói cho các ông là tôi lấy quyền nào mà làm các điều ấy.”Mt 21,33-46; Mc 12,1-12καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ.Et Jesus ait illis: Neque ego dico vobis in qua potestate hæc facio.Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
And he began to speak to the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen: and he was abroad for a long time.Rồi Đức Giê-su bắt đầu kể cho dân nghe dụ ngôn này: “Có người kia trồng được một vườn nho và cho tá điền canh tác, rồi trẩy đi xa một thời gian khá lâu.Ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ⸀Ἄνθρωπος ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς.Cœpit autem dicere ad plebem parabolam hanc: Homo plantavit vineam, et locavit eam colonis: et ipse peregre fuit multis temporibus. He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time.
And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard. Who, beating him, sent him away empty.“Đến mùa, ông sai một đầy tớ đến gặp các tá điền để chúng nộp hoa lợi vườn nho cho anh đem về. At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty.
And again he sent another servant. But they beat him also, and treating him reproachfully, sent him away empty.Ông lại sai một đầy tớ khác, nhưng họ cũng đánh anh ta, hạ nhục, rồi đuổi về tay không.καὶ προσέθετο ⸂ἕτερον πέμψαι⸃ δοῦλον· οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν. He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.Ông còn sai thêm một người thứ ba, nhưng họ cũng đánh trọng thương, rồi quăng ra ngoài.καὶ προσέθετο ⸂τρίτον πέμψαι⸃· οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον. He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him and threw him out.
Then the lord of the vineyard said: What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be, when they see him, they will reverence him.Ông chủ vườn nho mới nói: ‘Ta phải làm gì đây? Dixit autem dominus vineæ: Quid faciam? Mittam filium meum dilectum: forsitan, cum hunc viderint, verebuntur. The lord of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’
Whom when the husbandmen saw, they thought within themselves, saying: This is the heir, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.Nhưng vừa thấy cậu, bọn tá điền liền bàn nhau: ‘Đứa thừa tự đây rồi! Ta giết quách nó đi, rồi gia tài sẽ về tay ta.’ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ⸀ἀλλήλους λέγοντες· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· ⸀ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία·Quem cum vidissent coloni, cogitaverunt intra se, dicentes: Hic est hæres, occidamus illum, ut nostra fiat hæreditas.“But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’
So casting him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? Quid ergo faciet illis dominus vineæ?Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
He will come, and will destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. Which they hearing, said to him: God forbid.Ông sẽ đến tru diệt các tá điền ấy, rồi giao vườn nho cho người khác.” Quo audito, dixerunt illi: Absit. He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
But he looking on them, said: What is this then that is written, The stone, which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?Nhưng Đức Giê-su đưa mắt nhìn họ và nói: “Vậy câu Kinh Thánh này có nghĩa gì:Tảng đá thợ xây nhà loại bỏ,lại trở nên đá tảng góc tường?ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν· Τί οὖν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο· Λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας;Ille autem aspiciens eos, ait: Quid est ergo hoc quod scriptum est: Lapidem quem reprobaverunt ædificantes, hic factus est in caput anguli? But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected was made the chief cornerstone’?
Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be bruised: and upon whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.“Phàm ai ngã xuống đá này, kẻ ấy sẽ tan xương; đá này rơi trúng ai, sẽ làm người ấy nát thịt.”πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπ’ ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφ’ ὃν δ’ ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν. Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him the same hour: but they feared the people, for they knew that he spoke this parable to them. Quả vậy, họ thừa hiểu Người đã nhắm vào họ mà kể dụ ngôn ấy.Mt 22,15-22; Mc 12,13-17καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ ⸂γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς⸃ ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν ⸂τὸν λαόν⸃, ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς ⸂εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην⸃.Et quærebant principes sacerdotum et scribæ mittere in illum manus illa hora, et timuerunt populum: cognoverunt enim quod ad ipsos dixerit similitudinem hanc. The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
And being upon the watch, they sent spies, who should feign themselves just, that they might take hold of him in his words, that they might deliver him up to the authority and power of the governor.Họ rình rập và sai một số người giả bộ công chính đến dò la, mong bắt quả tang Đức Giê-su lỡ lời, để nộp Người cho nhà chức trách có thẩm quyền là tổng trấn.Καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ⸀ὥστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος. They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
And they asked him, saying: Master, we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly: and thou dost not respect any person, but teachest the way of God in truth.Những người này hỏi Đức Giê-su rằng: “Thưa Thầy, chúng tôi biết Thầy nói và dạy một cách thẳng thắn, không thiên vị ai, nhưng theo sự thật mà dạy đường lối của Thiên Chúa.καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλ’ ἐπ’ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις·Et interrogaverunt eum, dicentes: Magister, scimus quia recte dicis et doces: et non accipis personam, sed viam Dei in veritate doces. They asked him, “Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?Vậy, chúng tôi có được phép nộp thuế cho Xê-da hay không?”ἔξεστιν ⸀ἡμᾶς Καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ;Licet nobis tributum dare Cæsari, an non?Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
But he considering their guile, said to them: Why tempt you me?Nhưng Đức Giê-su thấu suốt lòng xảo trá của họ, nên Người nói:κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς ⸀αὐτούς·Considerans autem dolum illorum, dixit ad eos: Quid me tentatis? But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?
Shew me a penny. Whose image and inscription hath it? They answering, said to him, Caesar’s.“Cho tôi coi một quan tiền! Quan tiền này mang hình và danh hiệu của ai đây?” Họ đáp: “Của Xê-da.”⸀Δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; ⸀ἀποκριθέντες δὲ εἶπαν· Καίσαρος.ostendite mihi denarium. Cujus habet imaginem et inscriptionem? Respondentes dixerunt ei: Cæsaris.Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”
And he said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s: and to God the things that are God’s.Người bảo họ: “Thế thì của Xê-da, trả về Xê-da; của Thiên Chúa, trả về Thiên Chúa.”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς αὐτούς· Τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε⸃ τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ. He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
And they could not reprehend his word before the people: and wondering at his answer, they held their peace.Họ không tài nào bắt quả tang Người lỡ lời trước mặt dân; nghe câu trả lời của Người, họ ngạc nhiên và làm thinh luôn. They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.
And there came to him some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, and they asked him,Có mấy người thuộc nhóm Xa-đốc đến gặp Đức Giê-su. Nhóm này chủ trương không có sự sống lại.Προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, οἱ ⸀ἀντιλέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸνAccesserunt autem quidam sadducæorum, qui negant esse resurrectionem, et interrogaverunt eum,Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
Saying: Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he leave no children, that his brother should take her to wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.Mấy người ấy hỏi Đức Giê-su: “Thưa Thầy, ông Mô-sê có viết cho chúng ta điều luật này: Nếu anh hay em của người nào chết đi, đã có vợ mà không có con, thì người ấy phải lấy nàng, để sinh con nối dòng cho anh hay em mình.λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὗτος ἄτεκνος ⸀ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.dicentes: Magister, Moyses scripsit nobis: Si frater alicujus mortuus fuerit habens uxorem, et hic sine liberis fuerit, ut accipiat eam frater ejus uxorem, et suscitet semen fratri suo. They asked him, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.Vậy nhà kia có bảy anh em trai. There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
And the next took her to wife, and he also died childless. The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
And the third took her. And in like manner all the seven, and they left no children, and died.rồi người thứ ba đã lấy người vợ goá ấy. The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
Last of all the woman died also.Cuối cùng, người đàn bà ấy cũng chết.ὕστερον ⸂καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν⸃.Novissime omnium mortua est et mulier.Afterward the woman also died.
In the resurrection therefore, whose wife of them shall she be? For all the seven had her to wife.Vậy trong ngày sống lại, người đàn bà ấy sẽ là vợ ai, vì cả bảy đều đã lấy nàng làm vợ?”⸂ἡ γυνὴ οὖν ἐν τῇ⸃ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα.In resurrectione ergo, cujus eorum erit uxor? siquidem septem habuerunt eam uxorem. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”
And Jesus said to them: The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:Đức Giê-su đáp: “Con cái đời này cưới vợ lấy chồng,⸀Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ ⸀γαμίσκονται,Et ait illis Jesus: Filii hujus sæculi nubunt, et traduntur ad nuptias:Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage.
But they that shall be accounted worthy of that world, and of the resurrection from the dead, shall neither be married, nor take wives.chứ những ai được xét là đáng hưởng phúc đời sau và sống lại từ cõi chết, thì không cưới vợ cũng chẳng lấy chồng.οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε ⸀γαμίζονται·illi vero qui digni habebuntur sæculo illo, et resurrectione ex mortuis, neque nubent, neque ducent uxores:But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
Now that the dead rise again, Moses also shewed, at the bush, when he called the Lord, The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;Còn về vấn đề kẻ chết trỗi dậy, thì chính ông Mô-sê cũng đã cho thấy trong đoạn văn nói về bụi gai, khi ông gọi Đức Chúa là Thiên Chúa của tổ phụ Áp-ra-ham, Thiên Chúa của tổ phụ I-xa-ác, và Thiên Chúa của tổ phụ Gia-cóp.ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ἀβραὰμ ⸀καὶ θεὸν Ἰσαὰκ ⸁καὶ θεὸν Ἰακώβ·Quia vero resurgant mortui, et Moyses ostendit secus rubum, sicut dicit Dominum, Deum Abraham, et Deum Isaac, et Deum Jacob. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
For he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.Mà Người không phải là Thiên Chúa của kẻ chết, nhưng là Thiên Chúa của kẻ sống, vì đối với Người, tất cả đều đang sống.”θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῷ ζῶσιν. Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”
And some of the scribes answering, said to him: Master, thou hast said well.Bấy giờ có mấy người thuộc nhóm kinh sư lên tiếng nói: “Thưa Thầy, Thầy nói hay lắm.”ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν· Διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας·Respondentes autem quidam scribarum, dixerunt ei: Magister, bene dixisti. Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”
And after that they durst not ask him any more questions. Et amplius non audebant eum quidquam interrogare. They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
But he said to them: How say they that Christ is the son of David? He said to them, “Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?
And David himself saith in the book of Psalms: The Lord said to my Lord, sit thou on my right hand,Vì chính vua Đa-vít đã nói trong sách Thánh vịnh: Đức Chúa phán cùng Chúa Thượng tôi: Bên hữu Cha đây, Con lên ngự trị,⸂αὐτὸς γὰρ⸃ Δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν· ⸀Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μουet ipse David dicit in libro Psalmorum: Dixit Dominus Domino meo: sede a dextris meis,David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
Till I make thy enemies thy footstool.để rồi bao địch thù, Cha sẽ đặt làm bệ dưới chân Con.ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.donec ponam inimicos tuos scabellum pedum tuorum.until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’
David then calleth him Lord: and how is he his son?“Như vậy, vua Đa-vít gọi Đấng Ki-tô là Chúa Thượng; thế thì làm sao Đấng Ki-tô lại là con vua ấy được?”Mt 23,1-36; Mc 12,38-40Δαυὶδ οὖν ⸂αὐτὸν κύριον⸃ καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς ⸂αὐτοῦ υἱός⸃ ἐστιν;David ergo Dominum illum vocat: et quomodo filius ejus est?“David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
And in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples:Toàn dân đang nghe, thì Người nói với các môn đệ:Ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς ⸀μαθηταῖς·Audiente autem omni populo, dixit discipulis suis:In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts:“Anh em phải coi chừng những ông kinh sư ưa dạo quanh, xúng xính trong bộ áo thụng, thích được chào hỏi ở những nơi công cộng, ưa chiếm ghế danh dự trong hội đường, thích ngồi cỗ nhất trong đám tiệc.Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,Attendite a scribis, qui volunt ambulare in stolis, et amant salutationes in foro, et primas cathedras in synagogis, et primos discubitus in conviviis,“Beware of those scribes who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
Who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayer. These shall receive greater damnation.Họ nuốt hết tài sản của các bà goá, lại còn làm bộ đọc kinh cầu nguyện lâu giờ. Những người ấy sẽ bị kết án nghiêm khắc hơn.”οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὗτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα.qui devorant domos viduarum, simulantes longam orationem: hi accipient damnationem majorem.who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
