Wherefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest. For wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. For thou dost the same things which thou judgest. In quo enim judicas alterum, teipsum condemnas: eadem enim agis quæ judicas. | Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things.
For we know that the judgment of God is, according to truth, against them that do such things. | We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them who do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? | Do you think this, O man who judges those who practice such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and patience, and longsuffering? Knowest thou not, that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance? | ἢ τοῦ πλούτου τῆς χρηστότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς ἀνοχῆς καὶ τῆς μακροθυμίας καταφρονεῖς, ἀγνοῶν ὅτι τὸ χρηστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς μετάνοιάν σε ἄγει; | an divitias bonitatis ejus, et patientiæ, et longanimitatis contemnis? ignoras quoniam benignitas Dei ad pœnitentiam te adducit? | Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest up to thyself wrath, against the day of wrath, and revelation of the just judgment of God. | κατὰ δὲ τὴν σκληρότητά σου καὶ ἀμετανόητον καρδίαν θησαυρίζεις σεαυτῷ ὀργὴν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ὀργῆς καὶ ⸀ἀποκαλύψεως δικαιοκρισίας τοῦ θεοῦ, | Secundum autem duritiam tuam, et impœnitens cor, thesaurizas tibi iram in die iræ, et revelationis justi judicii Dei, | But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,
Who will render to every man according to his works. | Ngày đó, Thiên Chúa sẽ thưởng phạt mỗi người tuỳ theo việc họ làm; | ὃς ἀποδώσει ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ· | qui reddet unicuique secundum opera ejus: | who “will pay back to everyone according to their works:”
To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life: | những ai bền chí làm việc thiện mà tìm vinh quang, danh dự và phúc trường sinh bất tử, thì Thiên Chúa sẽ cho họ được sống đời đời; | τοῖς μὲν καθ’ ὑπομονὴν ἔργου ἀγαθοῦ δόξαν καὶ τιμὴν καὶ ἀφθαρσίαν ζητοῦσιν ζωὴν αἰώνιον· | iis quidem qui secundum patientiam boni operis, gloriam, et honorem, et incorruptionem quærunt, vitam æternam: | to those who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life;
But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation. | but to those who are self-seeking and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath, indignation,
Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek. | θλῖψις καὶ στενοχωρία, ἐπὶ πᾶσαν ψυχὴν ἀνθρώπου τοῦ κατεργαζομένου τὸ κακόν, Ἰουδαίου τε πρῶτον καὶ Ἕλληνος· | Tribulatio et angustia in omnem animam hominis operantis malum, Judæi primum, et Græci: | oppression, and anguish on every soul of man who does evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
But glory, and honour, and peace to every one that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. | Nhưng Người sẽ ban vinh quang, danh dự và bình an cho tất cả những ai làm điều thiện, trước là người Do-thái, sau là người Hy-lạp, | δόξα δὲ καὶ τιμὴ καὶ εἰρήνη παντὶ τῷ ἐργαζομένῳ τὸ ἀγαθόν, Ἰουδαίῳ τε πρῶτον καὶ Ἕλληνι· | gloria autem, et honor, et pax omni operanti bonum, Judæo primum, et Græco: | But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who does good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
For there is no respect of persons with God. | vì Thiên Chúa không thiên vị ai. | non enim est acceptio personarum apud Deum. | For there is no partiality with God.
For whosoever have sinned without the law, shall perish without the law; and whosoever have sinned in the law, shall be judged by the law. | For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. | For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified
For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature those things that are of the law; these having not the law are a law to themselves: | Dân ngoại là những người không có Luật Mô-sê; nhưng mỗi khi họ theo lẽ tự nhiên mà làm những gì Luật dạy, thì họ là Luật cho chính mình, mặc dầu họ không có Luật Mô-sê. | ὅταν γὰρ ἔθνη τὰ μὴ νόμον ἔχοντα φύσει τὰ τοῦ νόμου ⸀ποιῶσιν, οὗτοι νόμον μὴ ἔχοντες ἑαυτοῖς εἰσιν νόμος· | Cum autem gentes, quæ legem non habent, naturaliter ea, quæ legis sunt, faciunt, ejusmodi legem non habentes, ipsi sibi sunt lex: | (for when Gentiles who don’t have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves,
Who shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness to them, and their thoughts between themselves accusing, or also defending one another, | Họ cho thấy là điều gì Luật đòi hỏi, thì đã được ghi khắc trong lòng họ. | οἵτινες ἐνδείκνυνται τὸ ἔργον τοῦ νόμου γραπτὸν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις αὐτῶν, συμμαρτυρούσης αὐτῶν τῆς συνειδήσεως καὶ μεταξὺ ἀλλήλων τῶν λογισμῶν κατηγορούντων ἢ καὶ ἀπολογουμένων, | qui ostendunt opus legis scriptum in cordibus suis, testimonium reddente illis conscientia ipsorum, et inter se invicem cogitationibus accusantibus, aut etiam defendentibus, | in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves accusing or else excusing them)
In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel. | in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ.
But if thou art called a Jew and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, | Còn bạn, bạn mang tên là người Do-thái, lại ỷ rằng mình có Lề Luật, và tự hào vì có Thiên Chúa; | ⸂Εἰ δὲ⸃ σὺ Ἰουδαῖος ἐπονομάζῃ καὶ ἐπαναπαύῃ ⸀νόμῳ καὶ καυχᾶσαι ἐν θεῷ | Si autem tu Judæus cognominaris, et requiescis in lege, et gloriaris in Deo, | Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, rest on the law, glory in God,
And knowest his will, and approvest the more profitable things, being instructed by the law, | bạn được biết ý Người, được Lề Luật dạy cho điều hay lẽ phải; | καὶ γινώσκεις τὸ θέλημα καὶ δοκιμάζεις τὰ διαφέροντα κατηχούμενος ἐκ τοῦ νόμου, | et nosti voluntatem ejus, et probas utiliora, instructus per legem, | know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,
Art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them that are in darkness, | bạn xác tín rằng mình là người dẫn dắt kẻ mù loà, là ánh sáng cho kẻ ở trong bóng tối, | πέποιθάς τε σεαυτὸν ὁδηγὸν εἶναι τυφλῶν, φῶς τῶν ἐν σκότει, | confidis teipsum esse ducem cæcorum, lumen eorum qui in tenebris sunt, | and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having the form of knowledge and of truth in the law. | là nhà giáo dục kẻ u mê, là thầy dạy người non dại, vì bạn tưởng mình có Lề Luật là có tất cả tri thức và chân lý: | παιδευτὴν ἀφρόνων, διδάσκαλον νηπίων, ἔχοντα τὴν μόρφωσιν τῆς γνώσεως καὶ τῆς ἀληθείας ἐν τῷ νόμῳ— | eruditorem insipientium, magistrum infantium, habentem formam scientiæ, et veritatis in lege. | a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth.
Thou therefore that teachest another, teachest not thyself: thou that preachest that men should not steal, stealest: | Vậy, bạn biết dạy người khác, mà lại không dạy chính mình! Bạn giảng: đừng trộm cắp, mà bạn lại trộm cắp! | ὁ οὖν διδάσκων ἕτερον σεαυτὸν οὐ διδάσκεις; ὁ κηρύσσων μὴ κλέπτειν κλέπτεις; | Qui ergo alium doces, teipsum non doces: qui prædicas non furandum, furaris: | You therefore who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn’t steal, do you steal?
Thou that sayest, men should not commit adultery, committest adultery: thou that abhorrest idols, committest sacrilege: | Bạn nói: chớ ngoại tình, mà bạn lại ngoại tình! Bạn gớm ghét ngẫu tượng, mà bạn lại cướp bóc đền miếu! | ὁ λέγων μὴ μοιχεύειν μοιχεύεις; ὁ βδελυσσόμενος τὰ εἴδωλα ἱεροσυλεῖς; | qui dicis non mœchandum, mœcharis: qui abominaris idola, sacrilegium facis: | You who say a man shouldn’t commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
Thou that makest thy boast of the law, by transgression of the law dishonourest God. | Bạn tự hào vì có Lề Luật, mà bạn lại vi phạm Lề Luật, và như vậy bạn làm nhục Thiên Chúa! | ὃς ἐν νόμῳ καυχᾶσαι, διὰ τῆς παραβάσεως τοῦ νόμου τὸν θεὸν ἀτιμάζεις; | qui in lege gloriaris, per prævaricationem legis Deum inhonoras. | You who glory in the law, do you dishonor God by disobeying the law?
(For the name of God through you is blasphemed among the Gentiles, as it is written.) | For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written.
Circumcision profiteth indeed, if thou keep the law; but if thou be a transgressor of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. | For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
If, then, the uncircumcised keep the justices of the law, shall not this uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? | ἐὰν οὖν ἡ ἀκροβυστία τὰ δικαιώματα τοῦ νόμου φυλάσσῃ, ⸀οὐχ ἡ ἀκροβυστία αὐτοῦ εἰς περιτομὴν λογισθήσεται; | Si igitur præputium justitias legis custodiat, nonne præputium illius in circumcisionem reputabitur? | If therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won’t his uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision?
And shall not that which by nature is uncircumcision, if it fulfill the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision art a transgressor of the law? | Won’t those who are physically uncircumcised, but fulfill the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?
For it is not he is a Jew, who is so outwardly; nor is that circumcision which is outwardly in the flesh: | Thật vậy, người Do-thái chính hiệu không phải là căn cứ vào cái thấy được bên ngoài, phép cắt bì chính hiệu không phải là căn cứ vào cái thấy được bên ngoài, nơi thân xác. | οὐ γὰρ ὁ ἐν τῷ φανερῷ Ἰουδαῖός ἐστιν, οὐδὲ ἡ ἐν τῷ φανερῷ ἐν σαρκὶ περιτομή· | Non enim qui in manifesto, Judæus est: neque quæ in manifesto, in carne, est circumcisio: | For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;
But he is a Jew, that is one inwardly; and the circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. | but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.
