| 6 | Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: | Đức Giê-su Ki-tôvốn dĩ là Thiên Chúamà không nghĩ phải nhất quyết duy trìđịa vị ngang hàng với Thiên Chúa, | ὃς ἐν μορφῇ θεοῦ ὑπάρχων οὐχ ἁρπαγμὸν ἡγήσατο τὸ εἶναι ἴσα θεῷ, | qui cum in forma Dei esset, non rapinam arbitratus est esse se æqualem Deo: | who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, |
| 7 | But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. | nhưng đã hoàn toàntrút bỏ vinh quang,mặc lấy thân nô lệ,trở nên giống phàm nhân,sống như người trần thế. | ἀλλὰ ἑαυτὸν ἐκένωσεν μορφὴν δούλου λαβών, ἐν ὁμοιώματι ἀνθρώπων γενόμενος· καὶ σχήματι εὑρεθεὶς ὡς ἄνθρωπος | sed semetipsum exinanivit, formam servi accipiens, in similitudinem hominum factus, et habitu inventus ut homo. | but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. |
| 8 | He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross. | Người lại còn hạ mình,vâng lời cho đến nỗibằng lòng chịu chết,chết trên cây thập tự. | ἐταπείνωσεν ἑαυτὸν γενόμενος ὑπήκοος μέχρι θανάτου, θανάτου δὲ σταυροῦ· | Humiliavit semetipsum factus obediens usque ad mortem, mortem autem crucis. | And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross. |

| 10 | That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth: | Như vậy,khi vừa nghe danh thánh Giê-su,cả trên trời dưới đấtvà trong nơi âm phủ,muôn vật phải bái quỳ; | ἵνα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ πᾶν γόνυ κάμψῃ ἐπουρανίων καὶ ἐπιγείων καὶ καταχθονίων, | ut in nomine Jesu omne genu flectatur cælestium, terrestrium et infernorum, | that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, |
| 11 | And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father. | và để tôn vinh Thiên Chúa Cha,mọi loài phải mở miệngtuyên xưng rằng:“Đức Giê-su Ki-tô là Chúa.” | καὶ πᾶσα γλῶσσα ἐξομολογήσηται ὅτι κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς εἰς δόξαν θεοῦ πατρός. | et omnis lingua confiteatur, quia Dominus Jesus Christus in gloria est Dei Patris. | and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
| 12 | Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more now in my absence,) with fear and trembling work out your salvation. | Ấy vậy, anh em thân mến, anh em là những người luôn luôn vâng phục không những khi tôi có mặt, mà nhất là bây giờ, khi tôi vắng mặt, anh em hãy biết run sợ mà gắng sức lo sao cho mình được cứu độ. | Ὥστε, ἀγαπητοί μου, καθὼς πάντοτε ὑπηκούσατε, μὴ ὡς ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ μου μόνον ἀλλὰ νῦν πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἐν τῇ ἀπουσίᾳ μου, μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν κατεργάζεσθε, | Itaque carissimi mei (sicut semper obedistis), non ut in præsentia mei tantum, sed multo magis nunc in absentia mea, cum metu et tremore vestram salutem operamini. | So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. |
| 13 | For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will. | Vì chính Thiên Chúa tác động đến ý chí cũng như hành động của anh em do lòng yêu thương của Người. | ⸀θεὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ἐνεργῶν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ τὸ θέλειν καὶ τὸ ἐνεργεῖν ὑπὲρ τῆς εὐδοκίας. | Deus est enim, qui operatur in vobis et velle, et perficere pro bona voluntate. | For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. |
| 14 | And do ye all things without murmurings and hesitations; | Anh em hãy làm mọi việc mà đừng kêu ca hay phản kháng. | Πάντα ποιεῖτε χωρὶς γογγυσμῶν καὶ διαλογισμῶν, | Omnia autem facite sine murmurationibus et hæsitationibus: | Do all things without complaining and arguing, |
| 15 | That you may be blameless, and sincere children of God, without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom you shine as lights in the world. | Như thế, anh em sẽ trở nên trong sạch, không ai chê trách được điều gì, và sẽ trở nên những người con vẹn toàn của Thiên Chúa, giữa một thế hệ gian tà, sa đoạ. Giữa thế hệ đó, anh em phải chiếu sáng như những vì sao trên vòm trời, | ἵνα γένησθε ἄμεμπτοι καὶ ἀκέραιοι, τέκνα θεοῦ ⸂ἄμωμα μέσον⸃ γενεᾶς σκολιᾶς καὶ διεστραμμένης, ἐν οἷς φαίνεσθε ὡς φωστῆρες ἐν κόσμῳ | ut sitis sine querela, et simplices filii Dei, sine reprehensione in medio nationis pravæ et perversæ: inter quos lucetis sicut luminaria in mundo, | that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world, |
| 16 | Holding forth the word of life to my glory in the day of Christ, because I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain. | là làm sáng tỏ Lời ban sự sống, để tôi được hiên ngang hãnh diện trong ngày Đức Ki-tô quang lâm, vì tôi đã không chạy uổng công và đã không lao nhọc vô ích. | λόγον ζωῆς ἐπέχοντες, εἰς καύχημα ἐμοὶ εἰς ἡμέραν Χριστοῦ, ὅτι οὐκ εἰς κενὸν ἔδραμον οὐδὲ εἰς κενὸν ἐκοπίασα. | verbum vitæ continentes ad gloriam meam in die Christi, quia non in vacuum cucurri, neque in vacuum laboravi. | holding up the word of life, that I may have something to boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run in vain nor labor in vain. |
| 17 | Yea, and if I be made a victim upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and congratulate with you all. | Nhưng nếu tôi phải đổ máu ra hợp làm một với hy lễ mà anh em lấy đức tin dâng lên Chúa, thì tôi vui mừng và cùng chia sẻ niềm vui với tất cả anh em. | ἀλλὰ εἰ καὶ σπένδομαι ἐπὶ τῇ θυσίᾳ καὶ λειτουργίᾳ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν, χαίρω καὶ συγχαίρω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν· | Sed et si immolor supra sacrificium, et obsequium fidei vestræ, gaudeo, et congratulor omnibus vobis. | Yes, and if I am poured out on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. |
| 18 | And for the selfsame thing do you also rejoice, and congratulate with me. | Anh em cũng vậy, anh em hãy vui lên và cùng chia sẻ niềm vui với tôi. | τὸ δὲ αὐτὸ καὶ ὑμεῖς χαίρετε καὶ συγχαίρετέ μοι. | Idipsum autem et vos gaudete, et congratulamini mihi. | In the same way, you also should be glad and rejoice with me. |
| 19 | And I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy unto you shortly, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know the things concerning you. | Nhờ Chúa Giê-su, tôi hy vọng có thể sớm cử anh Ti-mô-thê đến với anh em, để chính tôi cũng được an tâm vì được biết tin tức về anh em. | Ἐλπίζω δὲ ἐν κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ Τιμόθεον ταχέως πέμψαι ὑμῖν, ἵνα κἀγὼ εὐψυχῶ γνοὺς τὰ περὶ ὑμῶν. | Spero autem in Domino Jesu, Timotheum me cito mittere ad vos: ut et ego bono animo sim, cognitis quæ circa vos sunt. | But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered up when I know how you are doing. |
| 20 | For I have no man so of the same mind, who with sincere affection is solicitous for you. | Chẳng có ai khác cùng chia sẻ một tâm tình với tôi và tận tâm lo lắng cho anh em. | οὐδένα γὰρ ἔχω ἰσόψυχον ὅστις γνησίως τὰ περὶ ὑμῶν μεριμνήσει, | Neminem enim habeo tam unanimem, qui sincera affectione pro vobis sollicitus sit. | For I have no one else like-minded, who will truly care about you. |
| 21 | For all seek the things that are their own; not the things that are Jesus Christ’s. | Thật vậy, ai nấy đều tìm lợi ích cho mình, chứ không tìm lợi ích cho Đức Ki-tô Giê-su. | οἱ πάντες γὰρ τὰ ἑαυτῶν ζητοῦσιν, οὐ τὰ ⸂Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ⸃. | Omnes enim quæ sua sunt quærunt, non quæ sunt Jesu Christi. | For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ. |
| 22 | Now know ye the proof of him, that as a son with the father, so hath he served with me in the gospel. | Anh em biết: anh Ti-mô-thê đã chứng tỏ mình là người có giá trị, bởi vì anh ấy đã cùng với tôi phục vụ Tin Mừng, như con với cha. | τὴν δὲ δοκιμὴν αὐτοῦ γινώσκετε, ὅτι ὡς πατρὶ τέκνον σὺν ἐμοὶ ἐδούλευσεν εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον. | Experimentum autem ejus cognoscite, quia sicut patri filius, mecum servivit in Evangelio. | But you know that he has proved himself. As a child serves a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the Good News. |
| 23 | Him therefore I hope to send unto you immediately, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. | Vậy, tôi hy vọng sẽ cử anh ấy đi, ngay khi thấy rõ số phận tôi ra sao. | τοῦτον μὲν οὖν ἐλπίζω πέμψαι ὡς ἂν ἀφίδω τὰ περὶ ἐμὲ ἐξαυτῆς· | Hunc igitur spero me mittere ad vos, mox ut videro quæ circa me sunt. | Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it will go with me. |
| 24 | And I trust in the Lord, that I myself also shall come to you shortly. | Vả lại, nhờ ơn Chúa, tôi tin tưởng sắp được đích thân đến thăm anh em. | πέποιθα δὲ ἐν κυρίῳ ὅτι καὶ αὐτὸς ταχέως ἐλεύσομαι. | Confido autem in Domino quoniam et ipse veniam ad vos cito. | But I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come shortly. |
| 25 | But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow labourer, and fellow soldier, but your apostle, and he that hath ministered to my wants. | Tôi nghĩ cần phải trả anh Ê-páp-rô-đi-tô về cho anh em. | 26 | For indeed he longed after you all: and was sad, for that you had heard that he was sick. | Anh ấy rất mong mỏi gặp lại tất cả anh em, lo âu vì anh em đã biết tin anh lâm bệnh. | ἐπειδὴ ἐπιποθῶν ἦν πάντας ⸀ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἀδημονῶν διότι ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἠσθένησεν. | quoniam quidem omnes vos desiderabat: et mœstus erat, propterea quod audieratis illum infirmatum. | since he longed for you all, and was very troubled because you had heard that he was sick. |
| 27 | For indeed he was sick, nigh unto death; but God had mercy on him; and not only on him, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. | Thật vậy, anh ấy ốm nặng gần chết; nhưng Thiên Chúa đã thương xót anh, không những thương xót anh mà còn thương xót cả tôi nữa, để tôi khỏi buồn phiền vì hết chuyện này đến chuyện khác. | καὶ γὰρ ἠσθένησεν παραπλήσιον ⸀θανάτῳ· ἀλλὰ ὁ θεὸς ⸂ἠλέησεν αὐτόν⸃, οὐκ αὐτὸν δὲ μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐμέ, ἵνα μὴ λύπην ἐπὶ λύπην σχῶ. | Nam et infirmatus est usque ad mortem: sed Deus misertus est ejus: non solum autem ejus, verum etiam et mei, ne tristitiam super tristitiam haberem. | For indeed he was sick nearly to death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, that I might not have sorrow on sorrow. |
| 28 | Therefore I sent him the more speedily: that seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow. | Do đó, tôi vội cho anh ấy trở về, để anh em được vui khi gặp lại anh, và chính tôi cũng bớt buồn phiền. | σπουδαιοτέρως οὖν ἔπεμψα αὐτὸν ἵνα ἰδόντες αὐτὸν πάλιν χαρῆτε κἀγὼ ἀλυπότερος ὦ. | Festinantius ergo misi illum, ut viso eo iterum gaudeatis, et ego sine tristitia sim. | I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. |
| 29 | Receive him therefore with all joy in the Lord; and treat with honour such as he is. | Vì Chúa, anh em hãy hết sức vui mừng đón tiếp anh. Anh em hãy quý trọng những người như thế; | προσδέχεσθε οὖν αὐτὸν ἐν κυρίῳ μετὰ πάσης χαρᾶς, καὶ τοὺς τοιούτους ἐντίμους ἔχετε, | Excipite itaque illum cum omni gaudio in Domino, et ejusmodi cum honore habetote; | Receive him therefore in the Lord with all joy, and hold such people in honor, |
| 30 | Because for the work of Christ he came to the point of death: delivering his life, that he might fulfill that which on your part was wanting towards my service. | chính vì làm việc cho Đức Ki-tô mà anh đã suýt chết, đã liều mạng sống để thay thế anh em, khi anh em không đến giúp tôi được. | ὅτι διὰ τὸ ἔργον ⸀Χριστοῦ μέχρι θανάτου ἤγγισεν, ⸀παραβολευσάμενος τῇ ψυχῇ ἵνα ἀναπληρώσῃ τὸ ὑμῶν ὑστέρημα τῆς πρός με λειτουργίας. | quoniam propter opus Christi usque ad mortem accessit, tradens animam suam ut impleret id quod ex vobis deerat erga meum obsequium. | because for the work of Christ he came near to death, risking his life to supply that which was lacking in your service toward me. |
