And it came to pass, when on a certain day the sons of God came, and stood before the Lord, and Satan came among them, and stood in his sight,Một ngày kia, con cái Thiên Chúa đến trình diện ĐỨC CHÚA; Xa-tan cũng đến trong đám họ, để trình diện ĐỨC CHÚA.Ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη καὶ ἦλθον οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ παραστῆναι ἔναντι Κυρίου, καὶ ὁ διάβολος ἦλθεν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν παραστῆναι ἐναντίον τοῦ κυρίου.וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּב֤וֹא גַֽם הַשָּׂטָן֙ בְּתֹכָ֔ם לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל יְהוָֽהFactum est autem, cum quadam die venissent filii Dei, et starent coram Domino, venisset quoque Satan inter eos, et staret in conspectu ejus,Again, on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
That the Lord said to Satan: Whence comest thou? And he answered and said: I have gone round about the earth, and walked through it.Bấy giờ, ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Ngươi từ đâu tới?” The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth on the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
And the Lord said to Satan: Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a man simple, and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil, and still keeping his innocence? But thou hast moved me against him, that I should afflict him without cause.ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Ngươi có để ý đến Gióp, tôi tớ của Ta không? וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל הַשָּׂטָ֗ן הֲשַׂ֣מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֮ אֶל עַבְדִּ֣י אִיּוֹב֒ כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין כָּמֹ֜הוּ בָּאָ֗רֶץ אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר יְרֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְסָ֣ר מֵרָ֑ע וְעֹדֶ֨נּוּ֙ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּת֔וֹ וַתְּסִיתֵ֥נִי ב֖וֹ לְבַלְּע֥וֹ חִנָּֽםEt dixit Dominus ad Satan: Numquid considerasti servum meum Job, quod non sit ei similis in terra, vir simplex et rectus, ac timens Deum, et recedens a malo, et adhuc retinens innocentiam? tu autem commovisti me adversus eum, ut affligerem eum frustra. The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. He still maintains his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause.”
And Satan answered, and said: Skin for skin, and all that a man hath he will give for his life:Và Xa-tan thưa lại với ĐỨC CHÚA: “Da đổi da! וַיַּ֧עַן הַשָּׂטָ֛ן אֶת יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר ע֣וֹר בְּעַד ע֗וֹר וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָאִ֔ישׁ יִתֵּ֖ן בְּעַ֥ד נַפְשֽׁוֹCui respondens Satan, ait: Pellem pro pelle, et cuncta quæ habet homo dabit pro anima sua;Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Skin for skin. Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.
But put forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and then thou shalt gee that he will bless thee to thy face. אוּלָם֙ שְֽׁלַֽח נָ֣א יָֽדְךָ֔ וְגַ֥ע אֶל עַצְמ֖וֹ וְאֶל בְּשָׂר֑וֹ אִם לֹ֥א אֶל פָּנֶ֖יךָ יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּalioquin mitte manum tuam, et tange os ejus et carnem, et tunc videbis quod in faciem benedicat tibi. But stretch out your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce you to your face.”
And the Lord said to Satan: Behold be is in thy hand, but yet save his life.ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Được, nó thuộc quyền ngươi, nhưng ngươi phải tôn trọng mạng sống nó.”εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τῷ διαβόλῳ Ἰδοὺ παραδίδωμί σοι αὐτόν· μόνον τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ διαφύλαξον. Dixit ergo Dominus ad Satan: Ecce in manu tua est: verumtamen animam illius serva. The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life.”
So Satan went forth from the presence Of the Lord, and struck Job with a very grievous ulcer, from the sole of the foot even to the top of his head:Rồi Xa-tan rút lui khỏi nhan ĐỨC CHÚA. Egressus igitur Satan a facie Domini, percussit Job ulcere pessimo, a planta pedis usque ad verticem ejus;So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.
And he took a potsherd and scraped the corrupt matter, sitting on a dunghill.Ông ngồi giữa đống tro, lấy mảnh sành mà gãi.καὶ ἔλαβεν ὄστρακον ἵνα τὸν ἰχῶρα ξύῃ, καὶ ἐκάθητο ἐπὶ τῆς κοπρίας ἔξω τῆς πόλεως. He took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with, and he sat among the ashes.
And his wife said to him: Dost thou still continue in thy simplicity? bless God and die.Bấy giờ, vợ ông bảo: “Ông còn kiên vững trong đường lối vẹn toàn của ông nữa hay thôi? וַתֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ עֹדְךָ֖ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּתֶ֑ךָ בָּרֵ֥ךְ אֱלֹהִ֖ים וָמֻֽתDixit autem illi uxor sua: Adhuc tu permanes in simplicitate tua? Benedic Deo, et morere. Then his wife said to him, “Do you still maintain your integrity? Renounce God, and die.”
And he said to her: Thou hast; spoken like one of the foolish women: if we have received good things at the hand of God, why should we not receive evil? In all these things Job did not sin with his lips. In omnibus his non peccavit Job labiis suis. But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job didn’t sin with his lips.
Now when Job’s three friends heard all the evil that had befallen him, they came every one from his own place, Alphas the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment to come together and visit him, and comfort him. Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come on him, they each came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and to comfort him.
And when they had lifted up their eyes afar off, they knew him not, and crying out they wept, and rending their garments they sprinkled dust upon their heads towards heaven.Từ xa, họ ngước mắt nhìn, nhưng chẳng nhận ra ông. וַיִּשְׂא֨וּ אֶת עֵינֵיהֶ֤ם מֵרָחוֹק֙ וְלֹ֣א הִכִּירֻ֔הוּ וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּ֑וּ וַֽיִּקְרְעוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְעִל֔וֹ וַיִּזְרְק֥וּ עָפָ֛ר עַל רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָהCumque elevassent procul oculos suos, non cognoverunt eum, et exclamantes ploraverunt, scissisque vestibus sparserunt pulverem super caput suum in cælum. When they lifted up their eyes from a distance, and didn’t recognize him, they raised their voices, and wept; and they each tore his robe, and sprinkled dust on their heads toward the sky.
And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no man spoke to him a word: for they saw that his grief was very great.Rồi họ ngồi xuống đất, bên cạnh ông, suốt bảy ngày đêm, chẳng nói với ông một lời, vì họ thấy rằng nỗi đau khổ của ông quá lớn.παρεκάθισαν αὐτῷ ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας καὶ ἑπτὰ νύκτας, καὶ οὐδεὶς αὐτῶν ἐλάλησεν· ἑώρων γὰρ τὴν πληγὴν δεινὴν οὖσαν καὶ μεγάλην σφόδρα.וַיֵּשְׁב֤וּ אִתּוֹ֙ לָאָ֔רֶץ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים וְשִׁבְעַ֣ת לֵיל֑וֹת וְאֵין דֹּבֵ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ דָּבָ֔ר כִּ֣י רָא֔וּ כִּֽי גָדַ֥ל הַכְּאֵ֖ב מְאֹֽדEt sederunt cum eo in terra septem diebus et septem noctibus: et nemo loquebatur ei verbum: videbant enim dolorem esse vehementem. So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
