And after these things David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go up into one of the cities of Juda? And the Lord said to him: Go up. And David said: Whither shall I go up? And he answered him: Into Hebron. Et ait Dominus ad eum: Ascende. Dixitque David: Quo ascendam? Et respondit ei: In Hebron. | After this, David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” The LORD said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” He said, “To Hebron.”
So David went up, and his two wives, Achinoam the Jezrahelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal of Carmel: | Ông Đa-vít lên đó, cùng với hai bà vợ, là bà A-khi-nô-am người Gít-rơ-en, và bà A-vi-ga-gin, vợ ông Na-van người Các-men. | καὶ ἀνέβη ἐκεῖ Δαυεὶδ εἰς Χεβρὼν καὶ ἀμφότεραι αἱ γυναῖκες αὐτοῦ, Ἀχινόομ ἡ Ἰσραηλεῖτις καὶ Ἀβειγαία ἡ γυνὴ Ναβὰλ τοῦ Καρμηλίου, | וַיַּ֤עַל שָׁם֙ דָּוִ֔ד וְגַ֖ם שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשָׁ֑יו אֲחִינֹ֨עַם֙ הַיִּזְרְעֵלִ֔ית וַאֲבִיגַ֕יִל אֵ֖שֶׁת נָבָ֥ל הַֽכַּרְמְלִֽי | Ascendit ergo David, et duæ uxores ejus, Achinoam Jezraëlites, et Abigail uxor Nabal Carmeli: | So David went up there with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
And the men also that were with him, David brought up every man with his household: and they abode in the towns of Hebron. | וַאֲנָשָׁ֧יו אֲשֶׁר עִמּ֛וֹ הֶעֱלָ֥ה דָוִ֖ד אִ֣ישׁ וּבֵית֑וֹ וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ בְּעָרֵ֥י חֶבְרֽוֹן | sed et viros, qui erant cum eo, duxit David singulos cum domo sua: et manserunt in oppidis Hebron. | David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.
And the men of Juda came, and anointed David there, to be king over the house of Juda. And it was told David, that the men of Jabes Galaad had buried Saul. | The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were those who buried Saul.”
David therefore sent messengers to the men of Jabes Galaad, and said to them: Blessed be you to the Lord, who have shewn this mercy to your master Saul, and have buried him. | David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “Blessed are you by the LORD, that you have shown this kindness to your lord, even to Saul, and have buried him.
And now the Lord surely will render you mercy and truth, and I also will, requite you for this good turn, because you have done this thing. | Giờ đây, xin ĐỨC CHÚA lấy tình thương và lòng thành tín mà đối xử với anh em. Cả tôi nữa, tôi cũng sẽ lấy lòng tốt như vậy mà đối xử với anh em, vì anh em đã làm điều ấy. | Now may the LORD show loving kindness and truth to you. I also will reward you for this kindness, because you have done this thing.
Let your hands be strengthened, and be ye men of valour: for although your master Saul be dead, yet the house of Juda hath anointed me to be their king. | וְעַתָּ֣ה תֶּחֱזַ֣קְנָה יְדֵיכֶ֗ם וִֽהְיוּ֙ לִבְנֵי חַ֔יִל כִּי מֵ֖ת אֲדֹנֵיכֶ֣ם שָׁא֑וּל וְגַם אֹתִ֗י מָשְׁח֧וּ בֵית יְהוּדָ֛ה לְמֶ֖לֶךְ עֲלֵיהֶֽם | Confortentur manus vestræ, et estote filii fortitudinis: licet enim mortuus sit dominus vester Saul, tamen me unxit domus Juda in regem sibi. | Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”
But Abner the son of Ner, general of Saul’s army, took Isboseth the son of Saul, and led him about through the camp? | Ông Áp-ne là con ông Ne và là tướng chỉ huy quân đội vua Sa-un, đã rước ông Ít-bô-sét, con vua Sa-un, đưa sang Ma-kha-na-gim, | Καὶ Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸς Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγος τοῦ Σαοὺλ ἔλαβεν τὸν Ἰεβόσθε υἱὸν Σαοὺλ καὶ ἀνεβίβασεν αὐτὸν ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς εἰς Μανάεμ, | וְאַבְנֵ֣ר בֶּן נֵ֔ר שַׂר צָבָ֖א אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְשָׁא֑וּל לָקַ֗ח אֶת אִ֥ישׁ בֹּ֨שֶׁת֙ בֶּן שָׁא֔וּל וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֖הוּ מַחֲנָֽיִם | Abner autem filius Ner, princeps exercitus Saul, tulit Isboseth filium Saul, et circumduxit eum per castra, | Now Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s army, had taken Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.
And made him king over Galaad, and, over Gessuri, and over Jezrahel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel. | và tôn làm vua miền Ga-la-át, dân A-su-ri, miền Gít-rơ-en, Ép-ra-im, Ben-gia-min và toàn thể Ít-ra-en. | He made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
Isboseth the son of Saul was forty years old when he began to reign over, Israel, and he reigned two years: and only the house of Juda followed David. | Ông Ít-bô-sét, con vua Sa-un, được bốn mươi tuổi khi lên làm vua Ít-ra-en, và trị vì hai năm. Chỉ có nhà Giu-đa theo vua Đa-vít. | Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
And the number of the days that David abode, reigning in Hebron over the house of Juda, was seven years and six months. | Thời gian vua Đa-vít làm vua tại Khép-rôn, cai trị nhà Giu-đa, là bảy năm sáu tháng. | וַֽיְהִי֙ מִסְפַּ֣ר הַיָּמִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר֩ הָיָ֨ה דָוִ֥ד מֶ֛לֶךְ בְּחֶבְר֖וֹן עַל בֵּ֣ית יְהוּדָ֑ה שֶׁ֥בַע שָׁנִ֖ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֥ה חֳדָשִֽׁים | Et fuit numerus dierum quos commoratus est David imperans in Hebron super domum Juda, septem annorum et sex mensium. | The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Isboseth the son of Saul, went out from the camp to Gabaon. | Ông Áp-ne, con ông Ne, cùng bề tôi vua Ít-bô-sét, con vua Sa-un, ra quân từ Ma-kha-na-gim, tiến về phía Ghíp-ôn. | Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
And Joab the son of Sarvia, and the servants of David went out, and met them by the pool of Gabaon. And when they were come together, they sat down over against one another: the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side. | Ông Giô-áp, con bà Xơ-ru-gia, cùng bề tôi vua Đa-vít, ra quân từ Khép-rôn và gặp họ gần hồ Ghíp-ôn. | 14 | And Abner said to Joab: Let the young men rise, and play before us. And Joab answered: Let them rise. | Ông Áp-ne nói với ông Giô-áp: “Các trai tráng hãy đứng dậy và đấu trước mặt chúng ta!” Ông Giô-áp nói: “Họ hãy đứng dậy!” | 15 | Then there arose and went over twelve in number of Benjamin, of the part of Isboseth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David. | Then they arose and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin and for Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of David’s servants.
And every one catching his fellow, by the head, thrust his sword into the side of his adversary, and they fell down together: and the name of the place was called: The field of the valiant, in Gabaon. | וַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּ אִ֣ישׁ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ רֵעֵ֗הוּ וְחַרְבּוֹ֙ בְּצַ֣ד רֵעֵ֔הוּ וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ יַחְדָּ֑ו וַיִּקְרָא֙ לַמָּק֣וֹם הַה֔וּא חֶלְקַ֥ת הַצֻּרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּגִבְעֽוֹן | Apprehensoque unusquisque capite comparis sui, defixit gladium in latus contrarii, et ceciderunt simul: vocatumque est nomen loci illius: Ager robustorum, in Gabaon. | They each caught his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place in Gibeon was called Helkath Hazzurim.
And there was a very fierce battle that day: and Abner was put to flight, with the men of Israel, by the servants of David. | Ngày hôm ấy, cuộc giao tranh diễn ra rất ác liệt. Ông Áp-ne và người Ít-ra-en bị bề tôi vua Đa-vít đánh bại. | וַתְּהִ֧י הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה קָשָׁ֥ה עַד מְאֹ֖ד בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיִּנָּ֤גֶף אַבְנֵר֙ וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִפְנֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֥י דָוִֽד | Et ortum est bellum durum satis in die illa: fugatusque est Abner et viri Israël a pueris David. | The battle was very severe that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before David’s servants.
And there were the three sons of Sarvia there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asael: now Asael was a most swift runner, like one of the roes that abide in the woods. | וַיִּֽהְיוּ שָׁ֗ם שְׁלֹשָׁה֙ בְּנֵ֣י צְרוּיָ֔ה יוֹאָ֥ב וַאֲבִישַׁ֖י וַעֲשָׂהאֵ֑ל וַעֲשָׂהאֵל֙ קַ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֔יו כְּאַחַ֥ד הַצְּבָיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּשָּׂדֶֽה | Erant autem ibi tres filii Sarviæ, Joab, et Abisai, et Asaël: porro Asaël cursor velocissimus fuit, quasi unus de capreis quæ morantur in silvis. | The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.
And Asael pursued after Abner, and turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner. | Asahel pursued Abner. He didn’t turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner.
And Abner looked behind him, and said: Art thou Asael? And he answered: I am. | Ông Áp-ne ngoái lại và hỏi: “Có phải mày đó không, A-xa-hên?” Ông này trả lời: “Tao đây.” Qui respondit: Ego sum. | Then Abner looked behind him and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” He answered, “It is.”
And Abner said to him: Go to the right hand or to the left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take thee his spoils. But Asael would not leave off following him close. Noluit autem Asaël omittere quin urgeret eum. | Abner said to him, “Turn away to your right hand or to your left, and grab one of the young men, and take his armor.” But Asahel would not turn away from following him.
And again Abner said to Asael: Go off, and do not follow me, lest I be obliged to stab thee to the ground, and I shall not be able to hold up my face to Joab thy brother. | Ông Áp-ne lại bảo ông A-xa-hên lần nữa rằng: “Mày hãy ngưng đuổi theo tao. Mày muốn tao quật mày xuống đất sao? Tao sẽ còn mặt mũi nào mà nhìn Giô-áp, anh mày được?” | Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn away from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look Joab your brother in the face?”
But he refused to hearken to him, and would not turn aside: wherefore Abner struck him with his spear with a back stroke in the groin, and thrust him through, and he died upon the spot: and all that came to the place where Asael fell down and died stood still. | וַיְמָאֵ֣ן לָס֗וּר וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ אַבְנֵר֩ בְּאַחֲרֵ֨י הַחֲנִ֜ית אֶל הַחֹ֗מֶשׁ וַתֵּצֵ֤א הַֽחֲנִית֙ מֵאַחֲרָ֔יו וַיִּפָּל שָׁ֖ם וַיָּ֣מָת תחתו תַּחְתָּ֑יו וַיְהִ֡י כָּל הַבָּ֣א אֶֽל הַמָּקוֹם֩ אֲשֶׁר נָ֨פַל שָׁ֧ם עֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל וַיָּמֹ֖ת וַֽיַּעֲמֹֽדוּ | Qui audire contempsit, et noluit declinare: percussit ergo eum Abner aversa hasta in inguine, et transfodit, et mortuus est in eodem loco: omnesque qui transibant per locum illum, in quo ceciderat Asaël et mortuus erat, subsistebant. | However, he refused to turn away. Therefore Abner with the back end of the spear struck him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there and died in the same place. As many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
Now while Joab and Abisai pursued after Abner, the sun went down: and they came as far as the hill of the aqueduct, that lieth over against the valley by the way of the wilderness in Gabaon. | Ông Giô-áp và ông A-vi-sai đuổi theo ông Áp-ne. Khi mặt trời lặn, họ tới đồi Am-ma, ở phía đông Ghi-ác, trên đường đi sa mạc Ghíp-ôn. | וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֛וּ יוֹאָ֥ב וַאֲבִישַׁ֖י אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֑ר וְהַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ בָּ֔אָה וְהֵ֗מָּה בָּ֚אוּ עַד גִּבְעַ֣ת אַמָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל פְּנֵי גִ֔יחַ דֶּ֖רֶךְ מִדְבַּ֥ר גִּבְעֽוֹן | Persequentibus autem Joab et Abisai fugientem Abner, sol occubuit: et venerunt usque ad collem aquæductus, qui est ex adverso vallis itineris deserti in Gabaon. | But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. The sun went down when they had come to the hill of Ammah, that lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together to Abner: and being joined in one body, they stood on the top of a hill. | וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֤וּ בְנֵֽי בִנְיָמִן֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיִּהְי֖וּ לַאֲגֻדָּ֣ה אֶחָ֑ת וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ עַ֥ל רֹאשׁ גִּבְעָ֖ה אֶחָֽת | Congregatique sunt filii Benjamin ad Abner: et conglobati in unum cuneum, steterunt in summitate tumuli unius. | The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner and became one band, and stood on the top of a hill.
And Abner cried out to Joab, and said: Shall thy sword rage unto utter destruction? knowest thou not that it is dangerous to drive people to despair? how long dost thou defer to bid the people cease from pursuing after their brethren? | Then Abner called to Joab, and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Don’t you know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long will it be then, before you ask the people to return from following their brothers?”
And Joab said: As the Lord liveth, if thou hadst spoke sooner, even in the morning the people should have retired from pursuing after their brethren. | Joab said, “As God lives, if you had not spoken, surely then in the morning the people would have gone away, and not each followed his brother.”
Then Joab sounded the trumpet, and all the army stood still, and did not pursue after Israel any farther, nor fight any more. | So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people stood still and pursued Israel no more, and they fought no more.
And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plains: and they passed the Jordan, and having gone through all Beth-horon, came to the camp. | Ông Áp-ne và người của ông đi trong vùng A-ra-va suốt đêm ấy, họ sang sông Gio-đan, đi xuyên qua cả vùng Bít-rôn và tới Ma-kha-na-gim. | Abner and his men went all that night through the Arabah; and they passed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and came to Mahanaim.
And Joab returning, after he had left Abner, assembled all the people: and there were wanting of David’s servants nineteen men, beside Asael. | Joab returned from following Abner; and when he had gathered all the people together, nineteen men of David’s and Asahel were missing.
But the servants of David had killed of Benjamin, and of the men that were with Abner, three hundred and sixty, who all died. | But David’s servants had struck Benjamin and Abner’s men so that three hundred sixty men died.
| 32 | And they took Asael, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father in Bethlehem, and Joab, and the men that were with him, marched all the night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.
