And straightway in the morning, the chief priests holding a consultation with the ancients and the scribes and the whole council, binding Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. | Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders, scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, bound Jesus, carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.
And Pilate asked him: Art thou the king of the Jews? But he answering, saith to him: Thou sayest it. | Et interrogavit eum Pilatus: Tu es rex Judæorum? At ille respondens, ait illi: Tu dicis. | Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered, “So you say.”
And the chief priests accused him in many things. | Các thượng tế tố cáo Người nhiều tội, | καὶ κατηγόρουν αὐτοῦ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς πολλά. | Et accusabant eum summi sacerdotes in multis. | The chief priests accused him of many things.
And Pilate again asked him, saying: Answerest thou nothing? behold in how many things they accuse thee. | Pilatus autem rursum interrogavit eum, dicens: Non respondes quidquam? vide in quantis te accusant. | Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!”
But Jesus still answered nothing; so that Pilate wondered. | Nhưng Đức Giê-su không trả lời gì nữa, khiến ông Phi-la-tô phải ngạc nhiên. | But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate marveled.
Now on the festival day he was wont to release unto them one of the prisoners, whomsoever they demanded. | Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whomever they asked of him.
And there was one called Barabbas, who was put in prison with some seditious men, who in the sedition had committed murder. | There was one called Barabbas, bound with his fellow insurgents, men who in the insurrection had committed murder.
And when the multitude was come up, they began to desire that he would do, as he had ever done unto them. | Đám đông kéo nhau lên yêu cầu tổng trấn ban ân xá như thường lệ. | The multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do as he always did for them.
And Pilate answered them, and said: Will you that I release to you the king of the Jews? | Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him up out of envy. | Bởi ông thừa biết chỉ vì ghen tị mà các thượng tế nộp Người. | For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up.
But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas to them. | But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should release Barabbas to them instead.
And Pilate again answering, saith to them: What will you then that I do to the king of the Jews? | Ông Phi-la-tô lại hỏi: “Vậy ta phải xử thế nào với người mà các ông gọi là vua dân Do-thái?” | Pilate again asked them, “What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?”
But they again cried out: Crucify him. | Họ la lên: “Đóng đinh nó vào thập giá!” | At illi iterum clamaverunt: Crucifige eum. | They cried out again, “Crucify him!”
And Pilate saith to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more: Crucify him. | Ông Phi-la-tô lại hỏi: “Nhưng ông ấy đã làm điều gì gian ác?” Họ càng la to: “Đóng đinh nó vào thập giá!” | Pilatus vero dicebat illis: Quid enim mali fecit? At illi magis clamabant: Crucifige eum. | Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, “Crucify him!”
And so Pilate being willing to satisfy the people, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. | Vì muốn chiều lòng đám đông, ông Phi-la-tô phóng thích tên Ba-ra-ba, truyền đánh đòn Đức Giê-su, rồi trao Người cho họ đóng đinh vào thập giá. | Pilate, wishing to please the multitude, released Barabbas to them, and handed over Jesus, when he had flogged him, to be crucified.
And the soldiers led him away into the court of the palace, and they called together the whole band: | Lính điệu Đức Giê-su vào bên trong công trường, tức là dinh tổng trấn, và tập trung cả cơ đội lại. | Milites autem duxerunt eum in atrium prætorii, et convocant totam cohortem, | The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.
And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon him. | They clothed him with purple; and weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on him.
And they began to salute him: Hail, king of the Jews. | Rồi chúng bái chào Người: “Vạn tuế đức vua dân Do-thái!” | They began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they struck his head with a reed: and they did spit on him. And bowing their knees, they adored him. | Chúng lấy cây sậy đập lên đầu Người, khạc nhổ vào Người, và quỳ gối bái lạy. | Et percutiebant caput ejus arundine: et conspuebant eum, et ponentes genua, adorabant eum. | They struck his head with a reed and spat on him, and bowing their knees, did homage to him.
And after they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own garments on him, and they led him out to crucify him. | When they had mocked him, they took the purple cloak off him, and put his own garments on him. They led him out to crucify him.
And they forced one Simon a Cyrenian who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and of Rufus, to take up his cross. | Lúc ấy, có một người từ miền quê lên, đi ngang qua đó, tên là Si-môn, gốc Ky-rê-nê. Ông là thân phụ hai ông A-lê-xan-đê và Ru-phô. Chúng bắt ông vác thập giá đỡ Đức Giê-su. | They compelled one passing by, coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them that he might bear his cross.
And they bring him into the place called Golgotha, which being interpreted is, The place of Calvary. | They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, “The place of a skull.”
And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh; but he took it not. | They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn’t take it.
And crucifying him, they divided his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. | Chúng đóng đinh Người vào thập giá, rồi đem áo Người ra bắt thăm mà chia nhau, xem ai được cái gì. | Et crucifigentes eum, diviserunt vestimenta ejus, mittentes sortem super eis, quis quid tolleret. | Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.
And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. | Lúc chúng đóng đinh Người là giờ thứ ba. | Erat autem hora tertia: et crucifixerunt eum. | It was the third hour when they crucified him.
And the inscription of his cause was written over: THE KING OF THE JEWS. | Bản án xử tội Người viết rằng: “Vua người Do-thái”. | Et erat titulus causæ ejus inscriptus: Rex Judæorum. | The superscription of his accusation was written over him: “THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. | Bên cạnh Người, chúng còn đóng đinh hai tên cướp, một đứa bên phải, một đứa bên trái. | Et cum eo crucifigunt duos latrones: unum a dextris, et alium a sinistris ejus. | With him they crucified two robbers, one on his right hand, and one on his left.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith: And with the wicked he was reputed. | Thế là ứng nghiệm lời Kinh Thánh: Người bị liệt vào hạng những tên phạm pháp.]Mt 27,39-44; Lc 23,35-37 | — | Et impleta est Scriptura, quæ dicit: Et cum iniquis reputatus est. | The Scripture was fulfilled which says, “He was counted with transgressors.”
And they that passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God, and in three days buildest it up again; | Kẻ qua người lại đều nhục mạ Người, vừa lắc đầu vừa nói: “Ê, mi là kẻ phá Đền Thờ, và nội trong ba ngày xây lại được, | Καὶ οἱ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν καὶ λέγοντες· Οὐὰ ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ⸂οἰκοδομῶν ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις⸃, | Et prætereuntes blasphemabant eum, moventes capita sua, et dicentes: Vah! qui destruis templum Dei, et in tribus diebus reædificas, | Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads and saying, “Ha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,
Save thyself, coming down from the cross. | salvum fac temetipsum descendens de cruce. | save yourself, and come down from the cross!”
In like manner also the chief priests mocking, said with the scribes one to another: He saved others; himself he cannot save. | Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, “He saved others. He can’t save himself.
Let Christ the king of Israel come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. | Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him.” Those who were crucified with him also insulted him.
And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole earth until the ninth hour. | Vào giờ thứ sáu, bóng tối bao phủ khắp mặt đất mãi đến giờ thứ chín. | When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabacthani? Which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? | Vào giờ thứ chín, Đức Giê-su kêu lớn tiếng: “Ê-lô-i, Ê-lô-i, la-ma xa-bác-tha-ni!” Nghĩa là: “Lạy Thiên Chúa, Thiên Chúa của con, sao Ngài bỏ rơi con?” | καὶ τῇ ⸂ἐνάτῃ ὥρᾳ⸃ ἐβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ ⸀μεγάλῃ· Ἐλωῒ ἐλωῒ ⸀λεμὰ σαβαχθάνι; ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον Ὁ θεός μου ὁ θεός μου, εἰς τί ⸂ἐγκατέλιπές με⸃; | Et hora nona exclamavit Jesus voce magna, dicens: Eloi, eloi, lamma sabacthani? quod est interpretatum: Deus meus, Deus meus, ut quid dereliquisti me? | At the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is, being interpreted, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
And some of the standers by hearing, said: Behold he calleth Elias. | Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”
And one running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and putting it upon a reed, gave him to drink, saying: Stay, let us see if Elias come to take him down. | One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah comes to take him down.”
And Jesus having cried out with a loud voice, gave up the ghost. | Đức Giê-su lại kêu lên một tiếng lớn, rồi tắt thở. | Jesus autem emissa voce magna expiravit. | Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit.

And the centurion who stood over against him, seeing that crying out in this manner he had given up the ghost, said: Indeed this man was the son of God. | When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
And there were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joseph, and Salome: | Nhưng cũng có mấy phụ nữ đứng xa xa mà nhìn, trong đó có bà Ma-ri-a Mác-đa-la, bà Ma-ri-a mẹ các ông Gia-cô-bê Thứ và Giô-xết, cùng bà Sa-lô-mê. | Ἦσαν δὲ καὶ γυναῖκες ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, ἐν ⸀αἷς καὶ ⸀Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ⸀ἡ Ἰακώβου τοῦ μικροῦ καὶ ⸀Ἰωσῆτος μήτηρ καὶ Σαλώμη, | Erant autem et mulieres de longe aspicientes: inter quas erat Maria Magdalene, et Maria Jacobi minoris, et Joseph mater, et Salome: | There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. |
But Pilate wondered that he should be already dead. And sending for the centurion, he asked him if he were already dead. | Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead long.

| 46 | And Joseph buying fine linen, and taking him down, wrapped him up in the fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewed out of a rock. And he rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre. | Ông này mua một tấm vải gai, hạ xác Đức Giê-su xuống, lấy tấm vải ấy liệm Người lại, đem đặt vào ngôi mộ đã đục sãn trong núi đá, rồi lăn tảng đá lấp cửa mộ. | He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock.
