Now the feast of the pasch, and of the Azymes was after two days; and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might by some wile lay hold on him, and kill him.Hai ngày trước lễ Vượt Qua và lễ Bánh Không Men, các thượng tế và kinh sư bàn mưu tính kế bắt Đức Giê-su để giết Người;Ἦν δὲ τὸ πάσχα καὶ τὰ ἄζυμα μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας. It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might seize him by deception and kill him.
But they said: Not on the festival day, lest there should be a tumult among the people.vì họ nói: “Đừng làm vào chính ngày lễ, kẻo dân chúng náo động.”Mt 26,6-13; Ga 12,1-8ἔλεγον ⸀γάρ· Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ, μήποτε ⸂ἔσται θόρυβος⸃ τοῦ λαοῦ.Dicebant autem: Non in die festo, ne forte tumultus fieret in populo. For they said, “Not during the feast, because there might be a riot among the people.”
And when he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, and was at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of precious spikenard: and breaking the alabaster box, she poured it out upon his head.Lúc đó, Đức Giê-su đang ở làng Bê-ta-ni-a, tại nhà ông Si-môn, người từng mắc bệnh phong. While he was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster jar of ointment of pure nard—very costly. She broke the jar and poured it over his head.
Now there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said: Why was this waste of the ointment made?Có vài người lấy làm bực tức, nói với nhau: “Phí dầu thơm như thế để làm gì?ἦσαν δέ τινες ἀγανακτοῦντες πρὸς ⸀ἑαυτούς· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη τοῦ μύρου γέγονεν;Erant autem quidam indigne ferentes intra semetipsos, et dicentes: Ut quid perditio ista unguenti facta est?But there were some who were indignant among themselves, saying, “Why has this ointment been wasted?
For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.Dầu đó có thể đem bán lấy trên ba trăm quan tiền mà bố thí cho người nghèo.” Et fremebant in eam.For this might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” So they grumbled against her.
But Jesus said: Let her alone, why do you molest her? She hath wrought a good work upon me.Nhưng Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Cứ để cho cô làm. Sao lại muốn gây chuyện? Bonum opus operata est in me:But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for me.
For the poor you have always with you: and whensoever you will, you may do them good: but me you have not always. Còn tôi, các ông chẳng có mãi đâu!πάντοτε γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἔχετε μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν, καὶ ὅταν θέλητε δύνασθε ⸀αὐτοῖς εὖ ποιῆσαι, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἔχετε·semper enim pauperes habetis vobiscum: et cum volueritis, potestis illis benefacere: me autem non semper habetis. For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want to, you can do them good; but you will not always have me.
She hath done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for burial.Điều gì làm được thì cô đã làm: cô đã lấy dầu thơm ướp xác tôi, để chuẩn bị ngày mai táng.ὃ ⸀ἔσχεν ἐποίησεν, προέλαβεν μυρίσαι ⸂τὸ σῶμά μου⸃ εἰς τὸν ἐνταφιασμόν.Quod habuit hæc, fecit: prævenit ungere corpus meum in sepulturam. She has done what she could. She has anointed my body beforehand for the burying.
Amen, I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memorial of her.Tôi bảo thật các ông: Hễ Tin Mừng được loan báo đến đâu trong khắp thiên hạ, thì nơi đó việc cô vừa làm cũng sẽ được kể lại để nhớ tới cô.”Mt 26,14-16; Lc 22,3-6ἀμὴν ⸀δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν, ὅπου ⸀ἐὰν κηρυχθῇ τὸ ⸀εὐαγγέλιον εἰς ὅλον τὸν κόσμον, καὶ ὃ ἐποίησεν αὕτη λαληθήσεται εἰς μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς.Amen dico vobis: Ubicumque prædicatum fuerit Evangelium istud in universo mundo, et quod fecit hæc, narrabitur in memoriam ejus. Most certainly I tell you, wherever this Good News may be preached throughout the whole world, that which this woman has done will also be spoken of for a memorial of her.”
And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them. Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, that he might deliver him to them.
Who hearing it were glad; and they promised him they would give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him. Et quærebat quomodo illum opportune traderet. They, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. He sought how he might conveniently deliver him.
Now on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the pasch, the disciples say to him: Whither wilt thou that we go, and prepare for thee to eat the pasch?Ngày thứ nhất trong tuần Bánh Không Men, là ngày sát tế chiên Vượt Qua, các môn đệ thưa với Đức Giê-su: “Thầy muốn chúng con đi dọn cho Thầy ăn lễ Vượt Qua ở đâu?”Καὶ τῇ πρώτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν ἀζύμων, ὅτε τὸ πάσχα ἔθυον, λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ· Ποῦ θέλεις ἀπελθόντες ἑτοιμάσωμεν ἵνα φάγῃς τὸ πάσχα;Et primo die azymorum quando Pascha immolabant, dicunt ei discipuli: Quo vis eamus, et paremus tibi ut manduces Pascha? On the first day of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the Passover, his disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare that you may eat the Passover?”
And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith to them: Go ye into the city; and there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water, follow him;Người sai hai môn đệ đi, và dặn họ: “Các anh đi vào thành, và sẽ có một người mang vò nước đón gặp các anh. Cứ đi theo người đó.καὶ ἀποστέλλει δύο τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ὑπάγετε εἰς τὴν πόλιν, καὶ ἀπαντήσει ὑμῖν ἄνθρωπος κεράμιον ὕδατος βαστάζων· ἀκολουθήσατε αὐτῷ,Et mittit duos ex discipulis suis, et dicit eis: Ite in civitatem, et occurret vobis homo lagenam aquæ bajulans: sequimini eum,He sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him,
And whithersoever he shall go in, say to the master of the house, The master saith, Where is my refectory, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?Người đó vào nhà nào, các anh hãy thưa với chủ nhà: Thầy nhắn: ‘Thầy sẽ ăn lễ Vượt Qua với các môn đệ ở phòng nào?’καὶ ὅπου ⸀ἐὰν εἰσέλθῃ εἴπατε τῷ οἰκοδεσπότῃ ὅτι Ὁ διδάσκαλος λέγει· Ποῦ ἐστιν τὸ κατάλυμά ⸀μου ὅπου τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου φάγω;et quocumque introierit, dicite domino domus, quia magister dicit: Ubi est refectio mea, ubi Pascha cum discipulis meis manducem?and wherever he enters in, tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’
And he will shew you a large dining room furnished; and there prepare ye for us.Và ông ấy sẽ chỉ cho các anh một phòng rộng rãi trên lầu, đã được chuẩn bị sãn sàng: và ở đó, các anh hãy dọn tiệc cho chúng ta.”καὶ αὐτὸς ὑμῖν δείξει ἀνάγαιον μέγα ἐστρωμένον ἕτοιμον· ⸀καὶ ἐκεῖ ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν.Et ipse vobis demonstrabit cœnaculum grande, stratum: et illic parate nobis. He will himself show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Get ready for us there.”
And his disciples went their way, and came into the city; and they found as he had told them, and they prepared the pasch. Et abierunt discipuli ejus, et venerunt in civitatem: et invenerunt sicut dixerat illis, et paraverunt Pascha. His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found things as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.
And when evening was come, he cometh with the twelve.Chiều đến, Đức Giê-su và Nhóm Mười Hai cùng tới.Καὶ ὀψίας γενομένης ἔρχεται μετὰ τῶν δώδεκα.Vespere autem facto, venit cum duodecim. When it was evening he came with the twelve.
And when they were at table and eating, Jesus saith: Amen I say to you, one of you that eateth with me shall betray me.Đang khi dùng bữa, Người nói: “Thầy bảo thật anh em, có người trong anh em sẽ nộp Thầy, mà lại là người đang cùng ăn với Thầy.”καὶ ἀνακειμένων αὐτῶν καὶ ἐσθιόντων ⸂ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν⸃· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν παραδώσει με ὁ ἐσθίων μετ’ ἐμοῦ. As they sat and were eating, Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, one of you will betray me—he who eats with me.”
But they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one by one: Is it I?Các môn đệ đâm ra buồn rầu, và lần lượt hỏi Người: “Chẳng lẽ con sao?”⸀ἤρξαντο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ λέγειν αὐτῷ εἷς κατὰ εἷς· Μήτι ⸀ἐγώ;At illi cœperunt contristari, et dicere ei singulatim: Numquid ego? They began to be sorrowful, and to ask him one by one, “Surely not I?” And another said, “Surely not I?”
Who saith to them: One of the twelve, who dippeth with me his hand in the dish.Người đáp: “Chính là một trong Nhóm Mười Hai đây, mà là người chấm chung một đĩa với Thầy.ὁ ⸀δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ⸀Εἷς τῶν δώδεκα, ὁ ἐμβαπτόμενος μετ’ ἐμοῦ εἰς ⸀τὸ τρύβλιον·Qui ait illis: Unus ex duodecim, qui intingit mecum manum in catino. He answered them, “It is one of the twelve, he who dips with me in the dish.
And the Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man shall be betrayed. It were better for him, if that man had not been born.Đã hẳn, Con Người ra đi theo như lời đã chép về Người. For the Son of Man goes as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”
And whilst they were eating, Jesus took bread; and blessing, broke, and gave to them, and said: Take ye. This is my body.Cũng đang bữa ăn, Đức Giê-su cầm lấy bánh, dâng lời chúc tụng, rồi bẻ ra, trao cho các ông và nói: “Anh em hãy cầm lấy, đây là mình Thầy.”Καὶ ἐσθιόντων αὐτῶν ⸀λαβὼν ἄρτον εὐλογήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς καὶ εἶπεν· ⸀Λάβετε, τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου. As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had blessed it, he broke it and gave to them, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body.”
And having taken the chalice, giving thanks, he gave it to them. And they all drank of it.Và Người cầm chén rượu, dâng lời tạ ơn, rồi trao cho các ông, và tất cả đều uống chén này.καὶ ⸀λαβὼν ποτήριον εὐχαριστήσας ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἔπιον ἐξ αὐτοῦ πάντες. He took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave to them. They all drank of it.
And he said to them: This is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many. He said to them, “This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many.
Amen I say to you, that I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it new in the kingdom of God.Thầy bảo thật anh em: chẳng bao giờ Thầy còn uống sản phẩm của cây nho nữa, cho đến ngày Thầy uống thứ rượu mới trong Nước Thiên Chúa.”Mt 26,30-35; Lc 22,31-34; Ga 13,36-38ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ πίω ἐκ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης ὅταν αὐτὸ πίνω καινὸν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ.Amen dico vobis, quia jam non bibam de hoc genimine vitis usque in diem illum, cum illud bibam novum in regno Dei.Most certainly I tell you, I will no more drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in God’s Kingdom.”
And when they had said an hymn, they went forth to the mount of Olives.Hát thánh vịnh xong, Đức Giê-su và các môn đệ ra núi Ô-liu.Καὶ ὑμνήσαντες ἐξῆλθον εἰς τὸ Ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν.Et hymno dicto exierunt in montem Olivarum. When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
And Jesus saith to them: You will all be scandalized in my regard this night; for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be dispersed.Đức Giê-su nói với các ông: “Tất cả anh em sẽ vấp ngã, vì Kinh Thánh đã chép: Ta sẽ đánh người chăn chiên, và chiên sẽ tan tác.Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Πάντες ⸀σκανδαλισθήσεσθε, ὅτι γέγραπται· Πατάξω τὸν ποιμένα, καὶ ⸂τὰ πρόβατα διασκορπισθήσονται⸃.Et ait eis Jesus: Omnes scandalizabimini in me in nocte ista: quia scriptum est: Percutiam pastorem, et dispergentur oves.Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’
But after I shall be risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Sed postquam resurrexero, præcedam vos in Galilæam.However, after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.”
But Peter saith to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, yet not I.Ông Phê-rô liền thưa: “Dầu tất cả có vấp ngã đi nữa, thì con cũng nhất định là không.”ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἔφη αὐτῷ· ⸂Εἰ καὶ⸃ πάντες σκανδαλισθήσονται, ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐγώ. But Peter said to him, “Although all will be offended, yet I will not.”
And Jesus saith to him: Amen I say to thee, today, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shall deny me thrice.Đức Giê-su nói với ông: “Thầy bảo thật anh: hôm nay, nội đêm nay, gà chưa kịp gáy hai lần, thì chính anh, anh đã chối Thầy đến ba lần.”καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀμὴν λέγω σοι ὅτι σὺ σήμερον ⸂ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτὶ⸃ πρὶν ἢ δὶς ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι τρίς ⸂με ἀπαρνήσῃ⸃.Et ait illi Jesus: Amen dico tibi, quia tu hodie in nocte hac, priusquam gallus vocem bis dederit, ter me es negaturus.Jesus said to him, “Most certainly I tell you that you today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”
But he spoke the more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all. At ille amplius loquebatur: Et si oportuerit me simul commori tibi, non te negabo. Similiter autem et omnes dicebant. But he spoke all the more, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” They all said the same thing.
And they came to a farm called Gethsemani. And he saith to his disciples: Sit you here, while I pray.Sau đó, Đức Giê-su và các môn đệ đến một thửa đất gọi là Ghết-sê-ma-ni. Et veniunt in prædium, cui nomen Gethsemani. Et ait discipulis suis: Sedete hic donec orem. They came to a place which was named Gethsemane. He said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
And he taketh Peter and James and John with him; and he began to fear and to be heavy.Rồi Người đem các ông Phê-rô, Gia-cô-bê và Gio-an đi theo. He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be greatly troubled and distressed.
And he saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay you here, and watch. He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”
And when he was gone forward a little, he fell flat on the ground; and he prayed, that if it might be, the hour might pass from him.Người đi xa hơn một chút, sấp mình xuống đất mà cầu xin cho mình khỏi phải qua giờ ấy, nếu có thể được.καὶ ⸂προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπιπτεν⸃ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ προσηύχετο ἵνα εἰ δυνατόν ἐστιν παρέλθῃ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ ἡ ὥρα,Et cum processisset paululum, procidit super terram, et orabat ut, si fieri posset, transiret ab eo hora.He went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.
And he saith: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: remove this chalice from me; but not what I will, but what thou wilt. Nhưng xin đừng làm điều con muốn, mà làm điều Cha muốn.”καὶ ἔλεγεν· Αββα ὁ πατήρ, πάντα δυνατά σοι· παρένεγκε τὸ ποτήριον ⸂τοῦτο ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ⸃· ἀλλ’ οὐ τί ἐγὼ θέλω ἀλλὰ τί σύ.Et dixit: Abba pater, omnia tibi possibilia sunt: transfer calicem hunc a me: sed non quod ego volo, sed quod tu.He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Please remove this cup from me. However, not what I desire, but what you desire.”
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? couldst thou not watch one hour?Rồi Người trở lại, thấy các môn đệ đang ngủ, liền nói với ông Phê-rô: “Si-môn, anh ngủ à? He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you watch one hour?
Watch ye, and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.Anh em hãy canh thức và cầu nguyện kẻo sa chước cám dỗ. Vì tinh thần thì hăng hái, nhưng thể xác lại yếu đuối.”γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ ⸀ἔλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.vigilate et orate, ut non intretis in tentationem. Spiritus quidem promptus est, caro vero infirma.Watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
A going away again, he prayed, saying the same words. Et iterum abiens oravit, eumdem sermonem dicens.Again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.
And when he returned, he found them again asleep, (for their eyes were heavy,) and they knew not what to answer him.Rồi Người trở lại, thấy các môn đệ vẫn ngủ, vì mắt họ nặng trĩu. Các ông chẳng biết trả lời làm sao với Người.καὶ ⸂πάλιν ἐλθὼν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς⸃ καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ ⸂αὐτῶν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ⸃ ⸀καταβαρυνόμενοι, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν τί ⸂ἀποκριθῶσιν αὐτῷ⸃.Et reversus, denuo invenit eos dormientes (erant enim oculi eorum gravati), et ignorabant quid responderent ei.Again he returned and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they didn’t know what to answer him.
And he cometh the third time, and saith to them: Sleep ye now, and take your rest. It is enough: the hour is come: behold the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners.Lần thứ ba, Người trở lại và bảo các ông: “Lúc này mà còn ngủ, còn nghỉ sao? Thôi, đủ rồi. Giờ đã điểm. Et venit tertio, et ait illis: Dormite jam, et requiescite. Sufficit: venit hora: ecce Filius hominis tradetur in manus peccatorum. He came the third time and said to them, “Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Rise up, let us go. Behold, he that will betray me is at hand.Đứng dậy, ta đi nào! Kìa kẻ nộp Thầy đã tới!”Mt 26,47-56; Lc 22,47-53; Ga 18,3-11ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν· ἰδοὺ ὁ παραδιδούς με ἤγγικεν.Surgite, eamus: ecce qui me tradet, prope est.Arise! Let’s get going. Behold, he who betrays me is at hand.”
And while he was yet speaking, cometh Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve: and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients. Immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came—and with him a multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
And he that betrayed him, had given them a sign, saying: Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; lay hold on him, and lead him away carefully.Kẻ nộp Đức Giê-su đã cho họ một ám hiệu, hắn dặn rằng: “Tôi hôn ai thì chính là người đó. Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I will kiss, that is he. Seize him, and lead him away safely.”
And when he was come, immediately going up to him, he saith: Hail, Rabbi; and he kissed him.Vừa tới, Giu-đa tiến lại gần Người và nói: “Thưa Thầy!”, rồi hôn Người.καὶ ἐλθὼν ⸀εὐθὺς προσελθὼν αὐτῷ λέγει· ⸀Ῥαββί, καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν. When he had come, immediately he came to him and said, “Rabbi! Rabbi!” and kissed him.
But they laid hands on him, and held him.Họ liền tra tay bắt Người.οἱ δὲ ἐπέβαλαν ⸂τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ⸃ καὶ ἐκράτησαν αὐτόν.At illi manus injecerunt in eum, et tenuerunt eum. They laid their hands on him and seized him.
An one of them that stood by, drawing a sword, struck a servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear. But a certain one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
And Jesus answering, said to them: Are you come out as to a robber, with swords and staves to apprehend me?Đức Giê-su nói với họ: “Tôi là một tên cướp sao mà các ông đem gươm giáo gậy gộc đến bắt?καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με;Et respondens Jesus, ait illis: Tamquam ad latronem existis cum gladiis et lignis comprehendere me?Jesus answered them, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to seize me?
I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not lay hands on me. But that the scriptures may be fulfilled. Nhưng thế này là để lời Sách Thánh được ứng nghiệm.”καθ’ ἡμέραν ἤμην πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με· ἀλλ’ ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαί.quotidie eram apud vos in templo docens, et non me tenuistis. Sed ut impleantur Scripturæ.I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you didn’t arrest me. But this is so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.”
Then his disciples leaving him, all fled away.Bấy giờ các môn đệ bỏ Người mà chạy trốn hết.καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ⸂ἔφυγον πάντες⸃.Tunc discipuli ejus relinquentes eum, omnes fugerunt. They all left him, and fled.
And a certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and they laid hold on him. A certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth thrown around himself over his naked body. The young men grabbed him,
But he, casting off the linen cloth, fled from them naked.Anh liền trút tấm vải lại, bỏ chạy trần truồng. At ille rejecta sindone, nudus profugit ab eis.but he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.
And they brought Jesus to the high priest; and all the priests and the scribes and the ancients assembled together.Họ điệu Đức Giê-su đến vị thượng tế. They led Jesus away to the high priest. All the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes came together with him.
And Peter followed him from afar off, even into the court of the high priest; and he sat with the servants at the fire, and warmed himself.Ông Phê-rô theo Người xa xa, vào tận bên trong dinh thượng tế, và ngồi sưởi bên đống lửa với đám thuộc hạ.καὶ ὁ Πέτρος ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ ἕως ἔσω εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ ἦν συγκαθήμενος μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν καὶ θερμαινόμενος πρὸς τὸ φῶς.Petrus autem a longe secutus est eum usque intro in atrium summi sacerdotis: et sedebat cum ministris ad ignem, et calefaciebat se.Peter had followed him from a distance, until he came into the court of the high priest. He was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light of the fire.
And the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, that they might put him to death, and found none.Bấy giờ các thượng tế và toàn thể Thượng Hội Đồng tìm lời chứng buộc tội Đức Giê-su để lên án tử hình, nhưng họ tìm không ra,οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον ἐζήτουν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ μαρτυρίαν εἰς τὸ θανατῶσαι αὐτόν, καὶ οὐχ ηὕρισκον·Summi vero sacerdotes et omne concilium quærebant adversus Jesum testimonium ut eum morti traderent: nec inveniebant. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witnesses against Jesus to put him to death, and found none.
For many bore false witness against him, and their evidences were not agreeing.vì tuy có nhiều kẻ đưa chứng gian tố cáo Người, nhưng các chứng ấy lại không ăn khớp với nhau.πολλοὶ γὰρ ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἴσαι αἱ μαρτυρίαι οὐκ ἦσαν. For many gave false testimony against him, and their testimony didn’t agree with each other.
And some rising up, bore false witness against him, saying:Có vài kẻ đứng lên cáo gian Người rằng:καί τινες ἀναστάντες ἐψευδομαρτύρουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ λέγοντεςEt quidam surgentes, falsum testimonium ferebant adversus eum, dicentes:Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, saying,
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another not made with hands.“Chúng tôi có nghe ông ấy nói: Tôi sẽ phá Đền Thờ này do tay người phàm xây dựng, và nội ba ngày, tôi sẽ xây một Đền Thờ khác, không phải do tay người phàm!”ὅτι Ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ὅτι Ἐγὼ καταλύσω τὸν ναὸν τοῦτον τὸν χειροποίητον καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἄλλον ἀχειροποίητον οἰκοδομήσω·Quoniam nos audivimus eum dicentem: Ego dissolvam templum hoc manu factum, et per triduum aliud non manu factum ædificabo.“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’”
And their witness did not agree.Nhưng ngay về điểm này, chứng của họ cũng không ăn khớp với nhau.καὶ οὐδὲ οὕτως ἴση ἦν ἡ μαρτυρία αὐτῶν.Et non erat conveniens testimonium illorum.Even so, their testimony didn’t agree.
And the high priest rising up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying: Answerest thou nothing to the things that are laid to thy charge by these men?Bấy giờ vị thượng tế đứng lên giữa hội đồng hỏi Đức Giê-su: “Ông không nói lại được một lời sao? Mấy người này tố cáo ông gì đó?”καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἰς μέσον ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν Ἰησοῦν λέγων· Οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;Et exsurgens summus sacerdos in medium, interrogavit Jesum, dicens: Non respondes quidquam ad ea quæ tibi objiciuntur ab his?The high priest stood up in the middle, and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is it which these testify against you?”
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said to him: Art thou the Christ the Son of the blessed God?Nhưng Đức Giê-su vẫn làm thinh, không đáp một tiếng. Vị thượng tế lại hỏi Người: “Ông có phải là Đấng Ki-tô, Con của Đấng Đáng Chúc Tụng không?”ὁ δὲ ἐσιώπα καὶ ⸂οὐκ ἀπεκρίνατο οὐδέν⸃. Rursum summus sacerdos interrogabat eum, et dixit ei: Tu es Christus Filius Dei benedicti? But he stayed quiet, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”
And Jesus said to him: I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of the power of God, and coming with the clouds of heaven.Đức Giê-su trả lời: “Phải, chính thế. Jesus said, “I am. You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of the sky.”
Then the high priest rending his garments, saith: What need we any further witnesses?Vị thượng tế liền xé áo mình ra và nói: “Chúng ta cần gì nhân chứng nữa?ὁ δὲ ἀρχιερεὺς διαρρήξας τοὺς χιτῶνας αὐτοῦ λέγει· Τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων;Summus autem sacerdos scindens vestimenta sua, ait: Quid adhuc desideramus testes? The high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need have we of witnesses?
You have heard the blasphemy. What think you? Who all condemned him to be guilty of death.Quý vị vừa nghe hắn nói phạm đến Thiên Chúa, quý vị nghĩ sao?” Audistis blasphemiam: quid vobis videtur? Qui omnes condemnaverunt eum esse reum mortis. You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?” They all condemned him to be worthy of death.
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him: Prophesy: and the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.Thế là một số bắt đầu khạc nhổ vào Người, bịt mặt Người lại, vừa đánh đấm Người vừa nói: “Hãy nói tiên tri đi!” Và đám thuộc hạ tát Người túi bụi. Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with fists, and to tell him, “Prophesy!” The officers struck him with the palms of their hands.
Now when Peter was in the court below, there cometh one of the maidservants of the high priest.Ông Phê-rô đang ở dưới sân, có một người tớ gái của thượng tế đi tới;Καὶ ὄντος τοῦ Πέτρου ⸂κάτω ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ⸃ ἔρχεται μία τῶν παιδισκῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως,Et cum esset Petrus in atrio deorsum, venit una ex ancillis summi sacerdotis:As Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the maids of the high priest came,
And when she had seen Peter warming himself, looking on him she saith: Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.thấy ông ngồi sưởi, cô ta nhìn ông chòng chọc mà nói: “Cả bác nữa, bác cũng đã ở với cái ông người Na-da-rét, ông Giê-su đó chứ gì!”καὶ ἰδοῦσα τὸν Πέτρον θερμαινόμενον ἐμβλέψασα αὐτῷ λέγει· Καὶ σὺ μετὰ τοῦ Ναζαρηνοῦ ⸂ἦσθα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ⸃·et cum vidisset Petrum calefacientem se, aspiciens illum, ait: Et tu cum Jesu Nazareno eras.and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You were also with the Nazarene, Jesus!”
But he denied, saying: I neither know nor understand what thou sayest. And he went forth before the court; and the cock crew.Ông liền chối: “Tôi chẳng biết, chẳng hiểu cô muốn nói gì!” Rồi ông bỏ đi ra phía tiền sảnh. Bấy giờ có tiếng gà gáy.ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο λέγων· ⸂Οὔτε οἶδα οὔτε ἐπίσταμαι σὺ τί⸃ λέγεις, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἔξω εἰς τὸ προαύλιον ⸂καὶ ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησεν⸃.At ille negavit, dicens: Neque scio, neque novi quid dicas. Et exiit foras ante atrium, et gallus cantavit. But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” He went out on the porch, and the rooster crowed.
And again a maidservant seeing him, began to say to the standers by: This is one of them. The maid saw him and began again to tell those who stood by, “This is one of them.”
But he denied again. And after a while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.Nhưng ông Phê-rô lại chối. Một lát sau, những người đứng đó lại nói với ông: “Đúng là bác thuộc bọn chúng, vì bác cũng là người Ga-li-lê!”ὁ δὲ πάλιν ἠρνεῖτο. Et post pusillum rursus qui astabant, dicebant Petro: Vere ex illis es: nam et Galilæus es.But he again denied it. After a little while again those who stood by said to Peter, “You truly are one of them, for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it.”
But he began to curse and to swear, saying; I know not this man of whom you speak. But he began to curse and to swear, “I don’t know this man of whom you speak!”
And immediately the cock crew again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said unto him: Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me. And he began to weep.Ngay lúc đó, gà gáy lần thứ hai. Ông Phê-rô sực nhớ điều Đức Giê-su đã nói với mình: “Gà chưa kịp gáy hai lần, thì anh đã chối Thầy đến ba lần.” The rooster crowed the second time. Peter remembered the words that Jesus said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” When he thought about that, he wept.
