And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him.Một ngày sa-bát kia, Đức Giê-su đến nhà một ông thủ lãnh nhóm Pha-ri-sêu để dùng bữa: họ cố dò xét Người.Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκόν τινος τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν Φαρισαίων σαββάτῳ φαγεῖν ἄρτον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἦσαν παρατηρούμενοι αὐτόν. When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.
And behold, there was a certain man before him that had the dropsy.Và kìa trước mặt Đức Giê-su, có một người mắc bệnh phù thũng.καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν ὑδρωπικὸς ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ.Et ecce homo quidam hydropicus erat ante illum.Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.
And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
But they held their peace. But he taking him, healed him, and sent him away.Nhưng họ làm thinh. Người đỡ lấy bệnh nhân, chữa khỏi và cho về.οἱ δὲ ἡσύχασαν. At illi tacuerunt. Ipse vero apprehensum sanavit eum, ac dimisit. But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.
And answering them, he said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out, on the sabbath day?Rồi Người nói với họ: “Ai trong các ông có đứa con trai hoặc có con bò sa xuống giếng, lại không kéo nó lên ngay, dù là ngày sa-bát?”⸀καὶ πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν· Τίνος ὑμῶν υἱὸς ἢ βοῦς εἰς φρέαρ ⸀πεσεῖται, καὶ οὐκ εὐθέως ἀνασπάσει αὐτὸν ⸀ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου;Et respondens ad illos dixit: Cujus vestrum asinus, aut bos in puteum cadet, et non continuo extrahet illum die sabbati? He answered them, “Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”
And they could not answer him to these things.Và họ không thể đáp lại những lời đó.καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ⸀ἀνταποκριθῆναι πρὸς ταῦτα.Et non poterant ad hæc respondere illi. They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.
And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:Người nhận thấy khách dự tiệc cứ chọn cỗ nhất mà ngồi, nên nói với họ dụ ngôn này:Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς κεκλημένους παραβολήν, ἐπέχων πῶς τὰς πρωτοκλισίας ἐξελέγοντο, λέγων πρὸς αὐτούς·Dicebat autem et ad invitatos parabolam, intendens quomodo primos accubitus eligerent, dicens ad illos:He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,
When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him:“Khi anh được mời đi ăn cưới, thì đừng ngồi vào cỗ nhất, kẻo lỡ có nhân vật nào quan trọng hơn anh cũng được mời,Ὅταν κληθῇς ὑπό τινος εἰς γάμους, μὴ κατακλιθῇς εἰς τὴν πρωτοκλισίαν, μήποτε ἐντιμότερός σου ᾖ κεκλημένος ὑπ’ αὐτοῦCum invitatus fueris ad nuptias, non discumbas in primo loco, ne forte honoratior te sit invitatus ab illo.“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,
And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.và rồi người đã mời cả anh lẫn nhân vật kia phải đến nói với anh rằng: ‘Xin ông nhường chỗ cho vị này.’ Et veniens is, qui te et illum vocavit, dicat tibi: Da huic locum: et tunc incipias cum rubore novissimum locum tenere.and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.
But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee. Tunc erit tibi gloria coram simul discumbentibus:But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.
Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.Vì phàm ai tôn mình lên sẽ bị hạ xuống; còn ai hạ mình xuống sẽ được tôn lên.”ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ὁ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.quia omnis, qui se exaltat, humiliabitur: et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee.Rồi Đức Giê-su nói với kẻ đã mời Người rằng: “Khi nào ông đãi khách ăn trưa hay ăn tối, thì đừng mời bạn bè, anh em, hay bà con, hoặc láng giềng giàu có, kẻo họ cũng mời lại ông, và như thế ông được đáp lễ rồi.Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ τῷ κεκληκότι αὐτόν· Ὅταν ποιῇς ἄριστον ἢ δεῖπνον, μὴ φώνει τοὺς φίλους σου μηδὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου μηδὲ τοὺς συγγενεῖς σου μηδὲ γείτονας πλουσίους, μήποτε καὶ αὐτοὶ ⸂ἀντικαλέσωσίν σε⸃ καὶ γένηται ⸂ἀνταπόδομά σοι⸃.Dicebat autem et ei, qui invitaverat: Cum facis prandium, aut cœnam, noli vocare amicos tuos, neque fratres tuos, neque cognatos, neque vicinos divites: ne forte te et ipsi reinvitent, et fiat tibi retributio; He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.
But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind;Trái lại, khi ông đãi tiệc, hãy mời những người nghèo khó, tàn tật, què quặt, đui mù.ἀλλ’ ὅταν ⸂δοχὴν ποιῇς⸃, κάλει πτωχούς, ἀναπείρους, χωλούς, τυφλούς·sed cum facis convivium, voca pauperes, debiles, claudos, et cæcos:But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;
And thou shalt be blessed, because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense: for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just.Họ không có gì đáp lễ, và như thế, ông mới thật có phúc: vì ông sẽ được đáp lễ trong ngày các kẻ lành sống lại.”Mt 22,1-10καὶ μακάριος ἔσῃ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἀνταποδοῦναί σοι, ἀνταποδοθήσεται γάρ σοι ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τῶν δικαίων.et beatus eris, quia non habent retribuere tibi: retribuetur enim tibi in resurrectione justorum.and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”
When one of them that sat at table with him, had heard these things, he said to him: Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.Nghe vậy, một trong những kẻ đồng bàn nói với Đức Giê-su: “Phúc thay ai được dự tiệc trong Nước Thiên Chúa!”Ἀκούσας δέ τις τῶν συνανακειμένων ταῦτα εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Μακάριος ⸀ὅστις φάγεται ⸀ἄρτον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ.Hæc cum audisset quidam de simul discumbentibus, dixit illi: Beatus qui manducabit panem in regno Dei.When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in God’s Kingdom!”
But he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many.Người đáp: “Một người kia làm tiệc lớn và đã mời nhiều người.ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἄνθρωπός τις ⸀ἐποίει δεῖπνον μέγα, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πολλούς,At ipse dixit ei: Homo quidam fecit cœnam magnam, et vocavit multos. But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.
And he sent his servant at the hour of supper to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready.Đến giờ tiệc, ông sai đầy tớ đi thưa với quan khách rằng: ‘Mời quý vị đến, cỗ bàn đã sãn.’καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ δείπνου εἰπεῖν τοῖς κεκλημένοις· Ἔρχεσθε, ὅτι ἤδη ἕτοιμά ⸀ἐστιν. He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’
And they began all at once to make excuse. The first said to him: I have bought a farm, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee, hold me excused.Bấy giờ mọi người nhất loạt bắt đầu xin kiếu. Người thứ nhất nói: ‘Tôi mới mua một thửa đất, cần phải đi thăm; cho tôi xin kiếu.’καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀπὸ μιᾶς ⸂πάντες παραιτεῖσθαι⸃. They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’
And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, hold me excused. Et alter dixit: Juga boum emi quinque, et eo probare illa: rogo te, habe me excusatum.“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’
And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. Et alius dixit: Uxorem duxi, et ideo non possum venire.“Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’
And the servant returning, told these things to his lord. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame.“Đầy tớ ấy trở về, kể lại sự việc cho chủ. Bấy giờ chủ nhà nổi cơn thịnh nộ bảo người đầy tớ rằng: ‘Mau ra các nơi công cộng và đường phố trong thành, đưa các người nghèo khó, tàn tật, đui mù, què quặt vào đây.’καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ ⸀δοῦλος ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα. τότε ὀργισθεὶς ὁ οἰκοδεσπότης εἶπεν τῷ δούλῳ αὐτοῦ· Ἔξελθε ταχέως εἰς τὰς πλατείας καὶ ῥύμας τῆς πόλεως, καὶ τοὺς πτωχοὺς καὶ ἀναπείρους καὶ ⸂τυφλοὺς καὶ χωλοὺς⸃ εἰσάγαγε ὧδε.Et reversus servus nuntiavit hæc domino suo. Tunc iratus paterfamilias, dixit servo suo: Exi cito in plateas et vicos civitatis: et pauperes, ac debiles, et cæcos, et claudos introduc huc.“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’
And the servant said: Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.Đầy tớ nói: ‘Thưa ông, lệnh ông đã được thi hành mà vẫn còn chỗ.’καὶ εἶπεν ὁ δοῦλος· Κύριε, γέγονεν ⸀ὃ ἐπέταξας, καὶ ἔτι τόπος ἐστίν.Et ait servus: Domine, factum est ut imperasti, et adhuc locus est.“The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’
And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.Ông chủ bảo người đầy tớ: ‘Ra các đường làng, đường xóm, ép người ta vào đầy nhà cho ta.καὶ εἶπεν ὁ κύριος πρὸς τὸν δοῦλον· Ἔξελθε εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς καὶ φραγμοὺς καὶ ἀνάγκασον εἰσελθεῖν, ἵνα γεμισθῇ ⸂μου ὁ οἶκος⸃·Et ait dominus servo: Exi in vias, et sæpes: et compelle intrare, ut impleatur domus mea.“The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
But I say unto you, that none of those men that were invited, shall taste of my supper.Tôi nói cho các anh biết: Những khách đã được mời trước kia, không ai sẽ được dự tiệc của tôi.’”Mt 10,37-38λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς τῶν ἀνδρῶν ἐκείνων τῶν κεκλημένων γεύσεταί μου τοῦ ⸀δείπνου. For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper. For many are called, but few are chosen. ’”
And there went great multitudes with him. And turning, he said to them:Có rất đông người cùng đi đường với Đức Giê-su. Người quay lại bảo họ:Συνεπορεύοντο δὲ αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί, καὶ στραφεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς·Ibant autem turbæ multæ cum eo: et conversus dixit ad illos:Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.“Ai đến với tôi mà không dứt bỏ cha mẹ, vợ con, anh em, chị em, và cả mạng sống mình nữa, thì không thể làm môn đệ tôi được.Εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ⸀ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τὰς ἀδελφάς, ἔτι ⸀τε καὶ τὴν ⸂ψυχὴν ἑαυτοῦ⸃, οὐ δύναται ⸂εἶναί μου μαθητής⸃.Si quis venit ad me, et non odit patrem suum, et matrem, et uxorem, et filios, et fratres, et sorores, adhuc autem et animam suam, non potest meus esse discipulus.“If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.
And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross and come after me, can’t be my disciple.
For which of you having a mind to build a tower, doth not first sit down, and reckon the charges that are necessary, whether he have wherewithal to finish it:“Quả thế, ai trong anh em muốn xây một cây tháp, mà trước tiên lại không ngồi xuống tính toán phí tổn, xem mình có đủ để hoàn thành không?τίς γὰρ ἐξ ⸀ὑμῶν θέλων πύργον οἰκοδομῆσαι οὐχὶ πρῶτον καθίσας ψηφίζει τὴν δαπάνην, εἰ ⸀ἔχει εἰς ἀπαρτισμόν;Quis enim ex vobis volens turrim ædificare, non prius sedens computat sumptus, qui necessarii sunt, si habeat ad perficiendum,For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?
Lest, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that see it begin to mock him,Kẻo lỡ ra, đặt móng rồi mà không có khả năng làm xong, thì mọi người thấy vậy sẽ lên tiếng chê cười mà bảo:ἵνα μήποτε θέντος αὐτοῦ θεμέλιον καὶ μὴ ἰσχύοντος ἐκτελέσαι πάντες οἱ θεωροῦντες ἄρξωνται ⸂αὐτῷ ἐμπαίζειν⸃ne, posteaquam posuerit fundamentum, et non potuerit perficere, omnes qui vident, incipiant illudere ei,Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation and isn’t able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,
Saying: This man began to build, and was not able to finish.‘Anh ta đã khởi công xây, mà chẳng có sức làm cho xong việc.’λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἤρξατο οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ἐκτελέσαι.dicentes: Quia hic homo cœpit ædificare, et non potuit consummare?saying, ‘This man began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
Or what king, about to go to make war against another king, doth not first sit down, and think whether he be able, with ten thousand, to meet him that, with twenty thousand, cometh against him?Hoặc có vua nào đi giao chiến với một vua khác, mà trước tiên lại không ngồi xuống bàn tính xem mình có thể đem một vạn quân ra, đương đầu với đối phương dẫn hai vạn quân tiến đánh mình chăng?ἢ τίς βασιλεὺς πορευόμενος ⸂ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν⸃ εἰς πόλεμον οὐχὶ καθίσας πρῶτον ⸀βουλεύσεται εἰ δυνατός ἐστιν ἐν δέκα χιλιάσιν ⸀ὑπαντῆσαι τῷ μετὰ εἴκοσι χιλιάδων ἐρχομένῳ ἐπ’ αὐτόν;Aut quis rex iturus committere bellum adversus alium regem, non sedens prius cogitat, si possit cum decem millibus occurrere ei, qui cum viginti millibus venit ad se?Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
Or else, whilst the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace.Nếu không đủ sức, thì khi đối phương còn ở xa, ắt nhà vua đã phải sai sứ đi cầu hoà.εἰ δὲ μήγε, ἔτι ⸂αὐτοῦ πόρρω⸃ ὄντος πρεσβείαν ἀποστείλας ἐρωτᾷ ⸀τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην.Alioquin adhuc illo longe agente, legationem mittens rogat ea quæ pacis sunt.Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy and asks for conditions of peace.
So likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth, cannot be my disciple.Cũng vậy, ai trong anh em không từ bỏ hết những gì mình có, thì không thể làm môn đệ tôi được. So therefore, whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.
Salt is good. But if the salt shall lose its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?“Muối quả là một cái gì tốt. Nhưng chính muối mà nhạt đi, thì lấy gì ướp nó cho mặn lại?Καλὸν ⸀οὖν τὸ ἅλας· ἐὰν δὲ ⸀καὶ τὸ ἅλας μωρανθῇ, ἐν τίνι ἀρτυθήσεται;Bonum est sal: si autem sal evanuerit, in quo condietur?“Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?
It is neither profitable for the land nor for the dunghill, but shall be cast out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.Dùng nó để bón ruộng hay trộn phân đều không thích hợp, nên người ta quăng nó ra ngoài. It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
