And there were present, at that very time, some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.Cùng lúc ấy, có mấy người đến kể lại cho Đức Giê-su nghe chuyện những người Ga-li-lê bị tổng trấn Phi-la-tô giết, khiến máu đổ ra hoà lẫn với máu tế vật họ đang dâng.Παρῆσαν δέ τινες ἐν αὐτῷ τῷ καιρῷ ἀπαγγέλλοντες αὐτῷ περὶ τῶν Γαλιλαίων ὧν τὸ αἷμα Πιλᾶτος ἔμιξεν μετὰ τῶν θυσιῶν αὐτῶν. Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
And he answering, said to them: Think you that these Galileans were sinners above all the men of Galilee, because they suffered such things?Đức Giê-su đáp lại rằng: “Các ông tưởng mấy người Ga-li-lê này phải chịu số phận đó vì họ tội lỗi hơn mọi người Ga-li-lê khác sao?καὶ ⸀ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Δοκεῖτε ὅτι οἱ Γαλιλαῖοι οὗτοι ἁμαρτωλοὶ παρὰ πάντας τοὺς Γαλιλαίους ἐγένοντο, ὅτι ⸀ταῦτα πεπόνθασιν;Et respondens dixit illis: Putatis quod hi Galilæi præ omnibus Galilæis peccatores fuerint, quia talia passi sunt?Jesus answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
No, I say to you: but unless you shall do penance, you shall all likewise perish.Tôi nói cho các ông biết: không phải thế đâu; nhưng nếu các ông không sám hối, thì các ông cũng sẽ chết hết như vậy.οὐχί, λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀλλ’ ἐὰν μὴ μετανοῆτε πάντες ⸀ὁμοίως ἀπολεῖσθε.Non, dico vobis: sed nisi pœnitentiam habueritis, omnes similiter peribitis.I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.
Or those eighteen upon whom the tower fell in Siloe, and slew them: think you, that they also were debtors above all the men that dwelt in Jerusalem?Cũng như mười tám người kia bị tháp Si-lô-ác đổ xuống đè chết, các ông tưởng họ là những người mắc tội nặng hơn tất cả mọi người ở thành Giê-ru-sa-lem sao?ἢ ἐκεῖνοι οἱ ⸀δεκαοκτὼ ἐφ’ οὓς ἔπεσεν ὁ πύργος ἐν τῷ Σιλωὰμ καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτούς, δοκεῖτε ὅτι ⸀αὐτοὶ ὀφειλέται ἐγένοντο παρὰ πάντας ⸀τοὺς ἀνθρώπους τοὺς ⸀κατοικοῦντας Ἰερουσαλήμ;Sicut illi decem et octo, supra quos cecidit turris in Siloë, et occidit eos: putatis quia et ipsi debitores fuerint præter omnes homines habitantes in Jerusalem?Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the men who dwell in Jerusalem?
No, I say to you; but except you do penance, you shall all likewise perish.Tôi nói cho các ông biết: không phải thế đâu; nhưng nếu các ông không chịu sám hối, thì các ông cũng sẽ chết hết y như vậy.”οὐχί, λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀλλ’ ἐὰν μὴ ⸀μετανοῆτε πάντες ⸀ὡσαύτως ἀπολεῖσθε.Non, dico vobis: sed si pœnitentiam non egeritis, omnes similiter peribitis.I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.”
He spoke also this parable: A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it, and found none.Rồi Đức Giê-su kể dụ ngôn này: “Người kia có một cây vả trồng trong vườn nho mình. He spoke this parable. “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
And he said to the dresser of the vineyard: Behold, for these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it done therefore: why cumbereth it the ground?nên bảo người làm vườn: ‘Anh coi, đã ba năm nay tôi ra cây vả này tìm trái, mà không thấy. Vậy anh chặt nó đi, để làm gì cho hại đất?’εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τὸν ἀμπελουργόν· Ἰδοὺ τρία ἔτη ⸂ἀφ’ οὗ⸃ ἔρχομαι ζητῶν καρπὸν ἐν τῇ συκῇ ταύτῃ καὶ οὐχ εὑρίσκω· ⸀ἔκκοψον αὐτήν· ἱνατί καὶ τὴν γῆν καταργεῖ;Dixit autem ad cultorem vineæ: Ecce anni tres sunt ex quo venio quærens fructum in ficulnea hac, et non invenio: succide ergo illam: ut quid etiam terram occupat? He said to the vine dresser, ‘Behold, these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and found none. Cut it down! Why does it waste the soil?’
But he answering, said to him: Lord, let it alone this year also, until I dig about it, and dung it.Nhưng người làm vườn đáp: ‘Thưa ông, xin cứ để nó lại năm nay nữa. Tôi sẽ vun xới chung quanh, và bón phân cho nó.ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς λέγει αὐτῷ· Κύριε, ἄφες αὐτὴν καὶ τοῦτο τὸ ἔτος, ἕως ὅτου σκάψω περὶ αὐτὴν καὶ βάλω κόπρια·At ille respondens, dicit illi: Domine dimitte illam et hoc anno, usque dum fodiam circa illam, et mittam stercora,He answered, ‘Lord, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
And if happily it bear fruit: but if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.May ra sang năm nó có trái, nếu không thì ông sẽ chặt nó đi.’”κἂν μὲν ποιήσῃ καρπὸν ⸂εἰς τὸ μέλλον— εἰ δὲ μήγε,⸃ ἐκκόψεις αὐτήν.et siquidem fecerit fructum: sin autem, in futurum succides eam.If it bears fruit, fine; but if not, after that, you can cut it down.’”
And he was teaching in their synagogue on their sabbath.Ngày sa-bát kia, Đức Giê-su giảng dạy trong một hội đường.Ἦν δὲ διδάσκων ἐν μιᾷ τῶν συναγωγῶν ἐν τοῖς σάββασιν.Erat autem docens in synagoga eorum sabbatis. He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day.
And behold there was a woman, who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years: and she was bowed together, neither could she look upwards at all.Ở đó, có một phụ nữ bị quỷ làm cho tàn tật đã mười tám năm. Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. She was bent over and could in no way straighten herself up.
Whom when Jesus saw, he called her unto him, and said to her: Woman, thou art delivered from thy infirmity. When Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.”
And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.Rồi Người đặt tay trên bà, tức khắc bà đứng thẳng lên được và tôn vinh Thiên Chúa.καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτῇ τὰς χεῖρας· καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀνωρθώθη, καὶ ἐδόξαζεν τὸν θεόν. He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.
And the ruler of the synagogue (being angry that Jesus had healed on the sabbath) answering, said to the multitude: Six days there are wherein you ought to work. In them therefore come, and be healed; and not on the sabbath day.Ông trưởng hội đường tức tối vì Đức Giê-su đã chữa bệnh vào ngày sa-bát. The ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the multitude, “There are six days in which men ought to work. Therefore come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day!”
And the Lord answering him, said: Ye hypocrites, doth not every one of you, on the sabbath day, loose his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead them to water?Chúa đáp: “Những kẻ đạo đức giả kia! Thế ngày sa-bát, ai trong các người lại không cởi dây, dắt bò lừa rời máng cỏ đi uống nước?ἀπεκρίθη ⸀δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος καὶ εἶπεν· Ὑποκριταί, ἕκαστος ὑμῶν τῷ σαββάτῳ οὐ λύει τὸν βοῦν αὐτοῦ ἢ τὸν ὄνον ἀπὸ τῆς φάτνης καὶ ⸀ἀπαγαγὼν ποτίζει;Respondens autem ad illum Dominus, dixit: Hypocritæ, unusquisque vestrum sabbato non solvit bovem suum, aut asinum a præsepio, et ducit adaquare? Therefore the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each one of you free his ox or his donkey from the stall on the Sabbath and lead him away to water?
And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?Còn bà này, là con cháu ông Áp-ra-ham, bị Xa-tan trói buộc đã mười tám năm nay, thì chẳng lẽ lại không được cởi xiềng xích đó trong ngày sa-bát sao?”ταύτην δὲ θυγατέρα Ἀβραὰμ οὖσαν, ἣν ἔδησεν ὁ Σατανᾶς ἰδοὺ δέκα καὶ ὀκτὼ ἔτη, οὐκ ἔδει λυθῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ δεσμοῦ τούτου τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου;Hanc autem filiam Abrahæ, quam alligavit Satanas, ecce decem et octo annis, non oportuit solvi a vinculo isto die sabbati?Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan had bound eighteen long years, be freed from this bondage on the Sabbath day?”
And when he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the things that were gloriously done by him.Nghe Người nói thế, tất cả những kẻ chống đối Người lấy làm xấu hổ, còn toàn thể đám đông thì vui mừng vì mọi việc hiển hách Người đã thực hiện. Et cum hæc diceret, erubescebant omnes adversarii ejus: et omnis populus gaudebat in universis, quæ gloriose fiebant ab eo.As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
He said therefore: To what is the kingdom of God like, and whereunto shall I resemble it?Vậy Người nói: “Nước Thiên Chúa giống cái gì đây? He said, “What is God’s Kingdom like? To what shall I compare it?
It is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden, and it grew and became a great tree, and the birds of the air lodged in the branches thereof.Nước Thiên Chúa giống như chuyện một hạt cải người nọ lấy gieo trong vườn mình. It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his own garden. It grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the sky live in its branches.”
And again he said: Whereunto shall I esteem the kingdom of God to be like?Người lại nói: “Tôi phải ví Nước Thiên Chúa với cái gì?⸀Καὶ πάλιν εἶπεν· Τίνι ὁμοιώσω τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ;Et iterum dixit: Cui simile æstimabo regnum Dei?Again he said, “To what shall I compare God’s Kingdom?
It is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.Nước Thiên Chúa giống như chuyện nắm men bà kia lấy vùi vào ba thúng bột, cho đến khi tất cả bột dậy men.”Mt 7,13-14.21-23ὁμοία ἐστὶν ζύμῃ, ἣν λαβοῦσα γυνὴ ⸀ἔκρυψεν εἰς ἀλεύρου σάτα τρία ἕως οὗ ἐζυμώθη ὅλον.Simile est fermento, quod acceptum mulier abscondit in farinæ sata tria, donec fermentaretur totum. It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”
And he went through the cities and towns teaching, and making his journey to Jerusalem. He went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and traveling on to Jerusalem.
And a certain man said to him: Lord, are they few that are saved? But he said to them:Có kẻ hỏi Người: “Thưa Ngài, những người được cứu thoát thì ít, có phải không?” Ipse autem dixit ad illos:One said to him, “Lord, are they few who are saved?” He said to them,
Strive to enter by the narrow gate; for many, I say to you, shall seek to enter, and shall not be able.“Hãy chiến đấu để qua được cửa hẹp mà vào, vì tôi nói cho anh em biết: có nhiều người sẽ tìm cách vào mà không thể được.Ἀγωνίζεσθε εἰσελθεῖν διὰ τῆς στενῆς ⸀θύρας, ὅτι πολλοί, λέγω ὑμῖν, ζητήσουσιν εἰσελθεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἰσχύσουσιν,Contendite intrare per angustam portam: quia multi, dico vobis, quærent intrare, et non poterunt.“Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.
But when the master of the house shall be gone in, and shall shut the door, you shall begin to stand without, and knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us. And he answering, shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are.“Một khi chủ nhà đã đứng dậy và khoá cửa lại, mà anh em còn đứng ở ngoài, bắt đầu gõ cửa và nói: ‘Thưa ngài, xin mở cho chúng tôi vào!’, thì ông sẽ bảo anh em: ‘Các anh đấy ư? When once the master of the house has risen up and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ then he will answer and tell you, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’
Then you shall begin to say: We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.Bấy giờ anh em mới nói: ‘Chúng tôi đã từng được ăn uống trước mặt ngài, và ngài cũng đã từng giảng dạy trên các đường phố của chúng tôi.’τότε ἄρξεσθε λέγειν· Ἐφάγομεν ἐνώπιόν σου καὶ ἐπίομεν, καὶ ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις ἡμῶν ἐδίδαξας·tunc incipietis dicere: Manducavimus coram te, et bibimus, et in plateis nostris docuisti. Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’
And he shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. Et dicet vobis: Nescio vos unde sitis: discedite a me omnes operarii iniquitatis. He will say, ‘I tell you, I don’t know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.’
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you shall see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.“Bấy giờ anh em sẽ khóc lóc nghiến răng, khi thấy các ông Áp-ra-ham, I-xa-ác và Gia-cóp cùng tất cả các ngôn sứ được ở trong Nước Thiên Chúa, còn mình lại bị đuổi ra ngoài.ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων, ὅταν ⸀ὄψησθε Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακὼβ καὶ πάντας τοὺς προφήτας ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ, ὑμᾶς δὲ ἐκβαλλομένους ἔξω. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God’s Kingdom, and yourselves being thrown outside.
And there shall come from the east and the west, and the north and the south; and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.Thiên hạ sẽ từ đông tây nam bắc đến dự tiệc trong Nước Thiên Chúa.καὶ ἥξουσιν ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν καὶ δυσμῶν καὶ ⸀ἀπὸ βορρᾶ καὶ νότου καὶ ἀνακλιθήσονται ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ.Et venient ab oriente, et occidente, et aquilone, et austro, et accumbent in regno Dei.They will come from the east, west, north, and south, and will sit down in God’s Kingdom.
And behold, they are last that shall be first; and they are first that shall be last.“Và kìa có những kẻ đứng chót sẽ lên hàng đầu, và có những kẻ đứng đầu sẽ xuống hàng chót.”καὶ ἰδοὺ εἰσὶν ἔσχατοι οἳ ἔσονται πρῶτοι, καὶ εἰσὶν πρῶτοι οἳ ἔσονται ἔσχατοι. Behold, there are some who are last who will be first, and there are some who are first who will be last.”
The same day, there came some of the Pharisees, saying to him: Depart, and get thee hence, for Herod hath a mind to kill thee.Cũng vào giờ ấy, có mấy người Pha-ri-sêu đến thưa Đức Giê-su rằng: “Xin ông đi ra khỏi đây, vì vua Hê-rô-đê đang muốn giết ông!”Ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ⸀ὥρᾳ προσῆλθάν τινες Φαρισαῖοι λέγοντες αὐτῷ· Ἔξελθε καὶ πορεύου ἐντεῦθεν, ὅτι Ἡρῴδης θέλει σε ἀποκτεῖναι.In ipsa die accesserunt quidam pharisæorum, dicentes illi: Exi, et vade hinc: quia Herodes vult te occidere. On that same day, some Pharisees came, saying to him, “Get out of here and go away, for Herod wants to kill you.”
And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I am consummated. Et ait illis: Ite, et dicite vulpi illi: Ecce ejicio dæmonia, et sanitates perficio hodie, et cras, et tertia die consummor. He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I complete my mission.
Nevertheless I must walk today and tomorrow, and the day following, because it cannot be that a prophet perish, out of Jerusalem. Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, for it can’t be that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem.’
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children as the bird doth her brood under her wings, and thou wouldest not?“Giê-ru-sa-lem, Giê-ru-sa-lem! Jerusalem, Jerusalem, quæ occidis prophetas, et lapidas eos qui mittuntur ad te, quoties volui congregare filios tuos quemadmodum avis nidum suum sub pennis, et noluisti?“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!
Behold your house shall be left to you desolate. And I say to you, that you shall not see me till the time come, when you shall say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Ecce relinquetur vobis domus vestra deserta. Behold, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
