According as they have delivered them unto us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word:Họ viết theo những điều mà các người đã được chứng kiến ngay từ đầu và đã phục vụ lời Chúa truyền lại cho chúng ta.καθὼς παρέδοσαν ἡμῖν οἱ ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς αὐτόπται καὶ ὑπηρέται γενόμενοι τοῦ λόγου,sicut tradiderunt nobis, qui ab initio ipsi viderunt, et ministri fuerunt sermonis:even as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word delivered them to us,
It seemed good to me also, having diligently attained to all things from the beginning, to write to thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,Tôi cũng vậy, sau khi đã cẩn thận tra cứu đầu đuôi mọi sự, thì thiết tưởng cũng nên tuần tự viết ra để kính tặng ngài,ἔδοξε κἀμοὶ παρηκολουθηκότι ἄνωθεν πᾶσιν ἀκριβῶς καθεξῆς σοι γράψαι, κράτιστε Θεόφιλε,visum est et mihi, assecuto omnia a principio diligenter, ex ordine tibi scribere, optime Theophile,it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus;
That thou mayest know the verity of those words in which thou hast been instructed.mong ngài sẽ nhận thức được rằng giáo huấn ngài đã học hỏi thật là vững chắc.ἵνα ἐπιγνῷς περὶ ὧν κατηχήθης λόγων τὴν ἀσφάλειαν.ut cognoscas eorum verborum, de quibus eruditus es, veritatem.that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zachary, of the course of Abia; and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.Thời vua Hê-rô-đê cai trị miền Giu-đê, có một vị tư tế thuộc nhóm A-vi-gia, tên là Da-ca-ri-a; vợ ông là Ê-li-sa-bét cũng thuộc dòng tộc tư tế A-ha-ron.Ἐγένετο ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ⸀Ἡρῴδου βασιλέως τῆς Ἰουδαίας ἱερεύς τις ὀνόματι Ζαχαρίας ἐξ ἐφημερίας Ἀβιά, ⸀καὶ γυνὴ ⸀αὐτῷ ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων Ἀαρών, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς Ἐλισάβετ. There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
And they were both just before God, walking in all the commandments and justifications of the Lord without blame.Cả hai ông bà đều là người công chính trước mặt Thiên Chúa, sống đúng theo mọi điều răn và mệnh lệnh của Chúa, không ai chê trách được điều gì.ἦσαν δὲ δίκαιοι ἀμφότεροι ⸀ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ, πορευόμενοι ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐντολαῖς καὶ δικαιώμασιν τοῦ κυρίου ἄμεμπτοι.Erant autem justi ambo ante Deum, incedentes in omnibus mandatis et justificationibus Domini sine querela. They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
And they had no son, for that Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
And it came to pass, when he executed the priestly function in the order of his course before God,Sau đây là chuyện xảy ra trong lúc ông đang lo việc tế tự trước nhan Thiên Chúa khi đến phiên của nhóm ông:Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἱερατεύειν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ τάξει τῆς ἐφημερίας αὐτοῦ ἔναντι τοῦ θεοῦFactum est autem, cum sacerdotio fungeretur in ordine vicis suæ ante Deum,Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division
According to the custom of the priestly office, it was his lot to offer incense, going into the temple of the Lord.Trong cuộc bắt thăm thường lệ của hàng tư tế, ông đã trúng thăm được vào dâng hương trong Đền Thờ của Đức Chúa.κατὰ τὸ ἔθος τῆς ἱερατείας ἔλαχε τοῦ θυμιᾶσαι εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ κυρίου,secundum consuetudinem sacerdotii, sorte exiit ut incensum poneret, ingressus in templum Domini:according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
And all the multitude of the people was praying without, at the hour of incense.Trong giờ dâng hương đó, toàn thể dân chúng cầu nguyện ở bên ngoài.καὶ πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος ἦν τοῦ λαοῦ προσευχόμενον ἔξω τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ θυμιάματος·et omnis multitudo populi erat orans foris hora incensi. The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.
And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the alter of incense.Bỗng một sứ thần của Chúa hiện ra với ông, đứng bên phải hương án.ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἑστὼς ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τοῦ θυμιάματος.Apparuit autem illi angelus Domini, stans a dextris altaris incensi. An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
And Zachary seeing him, was troubled, and fear fell upon him.Thấy vậy, ông Da-ca-ri-a bối rối, và nỗi sợ hãi ập xuống trên ông.καὶ ἐταράχθη Ζαχαρίας ἰδών, καὶ φόβος ἐπέπεσεν ἐπ’ αὐτόν. Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.
But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachary, for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John:Nhưng sứ thần bảo ông: “Này ông Da-ca-ri-a, đừng sợ, vì Thiên Chúa đã nhậm lời ông cầu xin: bà Ê-li-sa-bét vợ ông sẽ sinh cho ông một đứa con trai, và ông phải đặt tên cho con là Gio-an.εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος· Μὴ φοβοῦ, Ζαχαρία, διότι εἰσηκούσθη ἡ δέησίς σου, καὶ ἡ γυνή σου Ἐλισάβετ γεννήσει υἱόν σοι, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰωάννην·Ait autem ad illum angelus: Ne timeas, Zacharia, quoniam exaudita est deprecatio tua: et uxor tua Elisabeth pariet tibi filium, et vocabis nomen ejus Joannem:But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice in his nativity.Ông sẽ được vui mừng hớn hở, và nhiều người cũng được hỷ hoan ngày con trẻ chào đời.καὶ ἔσται χαρά σοι καὶ ἀγαλλίασις, καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπὶ τῇ ⸀γενέσει αὐτοῦ χαρήσονται·et erit gaudium tibi, et exsultatio, et multi in nativitate ejus gaudebunt:You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.
For he shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.Vì em bé sẽ nên cao cả trước mặt Chúa. Và ngay khi còn trong lòng mẹ, em đã đầy Thánh Thần.ἔσται γὰρ μέγας ἐνώπιον ⸀τοῦ κυρίου, καὶ οἶνον καὶ σίκερα οὐ μὴ πίῃ, καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου πλησθήσεται ἔτι ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ,erit enim magnus coram Domino: et vinum et siceram non bibet, et Spiritu Sancto replebitur adhuc ex utero matris suæ:For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
And he shall convert many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.Em sẽ đưa nhiều con cái Ít-ra-en về với Đức Chúa là Thiên Chúa của họ.καὶ πολλοὺς τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ ἐπιστρέψει ἐπὶ κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτῶν·et multos filiorum Israël convertet ad Dominum Deum ipsorum:He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias; that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children, and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.Được đầy thần khí và quyền năng của ngôn sứ Ê-li-a, em sẽ đi trước mặt Chúa, để làm cho lòng cha ông quay về với con cháu, để làm cho tâm tư kẻ ngỗ nghịch lại hướng về nẻo chính đường ngay, và chuẩn bị một dân sãn sàng đón Chúa.”καὶ αὐτὸς προελεύσεται ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ἐν πνεύματι καὶ δυνάμει Ἠλίου, ἐπιστρέψαι καρδίας πατέρων ἐπὶ τέκνα καὶ ἀπειθεῖς ἐν φρονήσει δικαίων, ἑτοιμάσαι κυρίῳ λαὸν κατεσκευασμένον.et ipse præcedet ante illum in spiritu et virtute Eliæ: ut convertat corda patrum in filios, et incredulos ad prudentiam justorum, parare Domino plebem perfectam. He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”
And Zachary said to the angel: Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.Ông Da-ca-ri-a thưa với sứ thần: “Dựa vào đâu mà tôi biết được điều ấy? Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
And the angel answering, said to him: I am Gabriel, who stand before God: and am sent to speak to thee, and to bring thee these good tidings.Sứ thần đáp: “Tôi là Gáp-ri-en, hằng đứng chầu trước mặt Thiên Chúa, tôi được sai đến nói với ông và loan báo tin mừng ấy cho ông.καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἐγώ εἰμι Γαβριὴλ ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ ἀπεστάλην λαλῆσαι πρὸς σὲ καὶ εὐαγγελίσασθαί σοι ταῦτα·Et respondens angelus dixit ei: Ego sum Gabriel, qui asto ante Deum: et missus sum loqui ad te, et hæc tibi evangelizare. The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.
And behold, thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be able to speak until the day wherein these things shall come to pass, because thou hast not believed my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.Và này đây ông sẽ bị câm, không nói được, cho đến ngày các điều ấy xảy ra, bởi vì ông đã không tin lời tôi, là những lời sẽ được ứng nghiệm đúng thời đúng buổi.”καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔσῃ σιωπῶν καὶ μὴ δυνάμενος λαλῆσαι ἄχρι ἧς ἡμέρας γένηται ταῦτα, ἀνθ’ ὧν οὐκ ἐπίστευσας τοῖς λόγοις μου, οἵτινες πληρωθήσονται εἰς τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῶν. Behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”
And the people were waiting for Zachary; and they wondered that he tarried so long in the temple.Dân chúng đợi ông Da-ca-ri-a, và lấy làm lạ sao ông ở lại trong cung thánh lâu như thế.Καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς προσδοκῶν τὸν Ζαχαρίαν, καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐν τῷ χρονίζειν ⸂ἐν τῷ ναῷ αὐτόν⸃.Et erat plebs exspectans Zachariam: et mirabantur quod tardaret ipse in templo. The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marveled that he delayed in the temple.
And when he came out, he could not speak to them: and they understood that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he made signs to them, and remained dumb.Lúc đi ra, ông không nói với họ được, và dân chúng biết là ông đã thấy một thị kiến trong cung thánh. When he came out, he could not speak to them. They perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute.
And it came to pass, after the days of his office were accomplished, he departed to his own house. Et factum est, ut impleti sunt dies officii ejus, abiit in domum suam:When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
And after those days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and hid herself five months, saying:Ít lâu sau, bà Ê-li-sa-bét vợ ông có thai, bà ẩn mình năm tháng.Μετὰ δὲ ταύτας τὰς ἡμέρας συνέλαβεν Ἐλισάβετ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ· καὶ περιέκρυβεν ἑαυτὴν μῆνας πέντε, λέγουσαpost hos autem dies concepit Elisabeth uxor ejus, et occultabat se mensibus quinque, dicens:After these days Elizabeth his wife conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,
Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he hath had regard to take away my reproach among men.Bà tự nhủ: “Chúa đã làm cho tôi như thế đó, khi Người thương cất nỗi hổ nhục tôi phải chịu trước mặt người đời.”ὅτι Οὕτως μοι ⸀πεποίηκεν κύριος ἐν ἡμέραις αἷς ἐπεῖδεν ⸀ἀφελεῖν ὄνειδός μου ἐν ἀνθρώποις.Quia sic fecit mihi Dominus in diebus, quibus respexit auferre opprobrium meum inter homines.“Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,Bà Ê-li-sa-bét có thai được sáu tháng, thì Thiên Chúa sai sứ thần Gáp-ri-en đến một thành miền Ga-li-lê, gọi là Na-da-rét,Ἐν δὲ τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ ἀπεστάλη ὁ ἄγγελος Γαβριὴλ ⸀ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς πόλιν τῆς Γαλιλαίας ᾗ ὄνομα ΝαζαρὲθIn mense autem sexto, missus est angelus Gabriel a Deo in civitatem Galilææ, cui nomen Nazareth,Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!”
Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.Nghe lời ấy, bà rất bối rối, và tự hỏi lời chào như vậy có nghĩa gì.ἡ δὲ ⸂ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ διεταράχθη⸃ καὶ διελογίζετο ποταπὸς εἴη ὁ ἀσπασμὸς οὗτος. But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of salutation this might be.

Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus.Và này đây bà sẽ thụ thai, sinh hạ một con trai, và đặt tên là Giê-su.καὶ ἰδοὺ συλλήμψῃ ἐν γαστρὶ καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν, καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰησοῦν.Ecce concipies in utero, et paries filium, et vocabis nomen ejus Jesum:Behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and shall name him ‘Jesus.’
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.Người sẽ nên cao cả, và sẽ được gọi là Con Đấng Tối Cao. Đức Chúa là Thiên Chúa sẽ ban cho Người ngai vàng vua Đa-vít, tổ tiên Người.οὗτος ἔσται μέγας καὶ υἱὸς Ὑψίστου κληθήσεται, καὶ δώσει αὐτῷ κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν θρόνον Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ,hic erit magnus, et Filius Altissimi vocabitur, et dabit illi Dominus Deus sedem David patris ejus: et regnabit in domo Jacob in æternum,He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”
And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man?Bà Ma-ri-a thưa với sứ thần: “Việc ấy sẽ xảy ra cách nào, vì tôi không biết đến việc vợ chồng!”εἶπεν δὲ Μαριὰμ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον· Πῶς ἔσται τοῦτο, ἐπεὶ ἄνδρα οὐ γινώσκω;Dixit autem Maria ad angelum: Quomodo fiet istud, quoniam virum non cognosco?Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”

And the angel departed from her.Bấy giờ bà Ma-ri-a nói: “Vâng, tôi đây là nữ tỳ của Chúa, xin Chúa cứ làm cho tôi như lời sứ thần nói.” Dixit autem Maria: Ecce ancilla Domini: fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. 44For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.Vì này đây, tai tôi vừa nghe tiếng em chào, thì đứa con trong bụng đã nhảy lên vui sướng.ἰδοὺ γὰρ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡ φωνὴ τοῦ ἀσπασμοῦ σου εἰς τὰ ὦτά μου, ἐσκίρτησεν ⸂ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει τὸ βρέφος⸃ ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ μου. For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!
And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord. Et beata, quæ credidisti, quoniam perficientur ea, quæ dicta sunt tibi a Domino.Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”

Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.Phận nữ tỳ hèn mọn,Người đoái thương nhìn tới;từ nay, hết mọi đờisẽ khen tôi diễm phúc.ὅτι ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τῆς δούλης αὐτοῦ, ἰδοὺ γὰρ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν μακαριοῦσίν με πᾶσαι αἱ γενεαί·Quia respexit humilitatem ancillæ suæ: ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes, for he has looked at the humble state of his servant.
