There was a man in the land of Hus, whose name was Job, and that man was simple and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil.Xưa ở đất Út có một người tên là Gióp. אִ֛ישׁ הָיָ֥ה בְאֶֽרֶץ ע֖וּץ אִיּ֣וֹב שְׁמ֑וֹ וְהָיָ֣ה הָאִ֣ישׁ הַה֗וּא תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר וִירֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְסָ֥ר מֵרָֽעVir erat in terra Hus, nomine Job: et erat vir ille simplex, et rectus, ac timens Deum, et recedens a malo. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters.Ông sinh được bảy người con trai và ba người con gái.ἐγένοντο δὲ αὐτῷ υἱοὶ ἑπτὰ καὶ θυγατέρες τρεῖς. There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
And his possession was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a family exceeding great: and this man was great among all the people of the east.Ông có một đàn súc vật gồm bảy ngàn chiên dê, ba ngàn lạc đà, năm trăm đôi bò, năm trăm lừa cái và một số rất đông tôi tớ. His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.
And his sons went, and made a feast by houses every one in his day. And sending they called their three sisters to eat and drink with them.Các con trai ông có thói quen luân phiên tới nhà nhau tiệc tùng và cho người đi mời ba cô em gái đến ăn uống với họ.συμπορευόμενοι δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ πρὸς ἀλλήλους ἐποιοῦσαν πότον καθ᾽ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν, συμπαραλαμβάνοντες ἅμα καὶ τὰς τρεῖς ἀδελφὰς αὐτῶν ἐσθίειν καὶ πίνειν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν. His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
And when the days of their feasting were gone about, Job sent to them, and sanctified them: and rising up early offered holocausts for every one of them. For he said: Lest perhaps my sons have sinned, and have blessed God in their hearts. So did Job all days.Mỗi khi hết vòng tiệc tùng, ông Gióp cho gọi họ đến để thanh tẩy họ; rồi ông dậy thật sớm, dâng lễ toàn thiêu cho mỗi người trong họ, vì ông tự nhủ: “Biết đâu các con trai ta đã chẳng phạm tội và nguyền rủa Thiên Chúa trong lòng!” Sic faciebat Job cunctis diebus. It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.
Now on a certain day when the sons of God came to stand before the Lord, Satan also was present among them.Vậy một ngày kia, các con cái Thiên Chúa đến trình diện ĐỨC CHÚA; Xa-tan cũng đến trong đám họ.Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἦλθον οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ θεοῦ παραστῆναι ἐνώπιον τοῦ κυρίου, καὶ ὁ διάβολος ἦλθεν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν. Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before the LORD, Satan also came among them.
And the Lord said to him: Whence comest thou? And he answered and said: I have gone round about the earth, and walked through it.Bấy giờ ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Ngươi từ đâu tới?” The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth on the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
And the Lord said to him: Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a simple and upright man, and fearing God, and avoiding evil?ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Ngươi có để ý đến Gióp, tôi tớ của Ta không? וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל הַשָּׂטָ֔ן הֲשַׂ֥מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֖ עַל עַבְדִּ֣י אִיּ֑וֹב כִּ֣י אֵ֤ין כָּמֹ֨הוּ֙ בָּאָ֔רֶץ אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר יְרֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְסָ֥ר מֵרָֽעDixitque Dominus ad eum: Numquid considerasti servum meum Job, quod non sit ei similis in terra, homo simplex et rectus, ac timens Deum, et recedens a malo? The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”
And Satan answering, said: Doth Job fear God in vain? Cui respondens Satan, ait: Numquid Job frustra timet Deum? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
Hast not thou made a fence for him, and his house, and all his substance round about, blessed the works of his hands, and his possession hath increased on the earth? Ngài đã ban phúc lành cho công việc do tay nó làm, và các đàn súc vật của nó lan tràn khắp xứ.οὐ σὺ περιέφραξας τὰ ἔξω αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἔσω τῆς οἰκίας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἔξω πάντων τῶν ὄντων αὐτῷ κύκλῳ; τὰ ἔργα τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ εὐλόγησας, καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτοῦ πολλὰ ἐποίησας ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.הֲלֹֽא את אַ֠תָּה שַׂ֣כְתָּ בַעֲד֧וֹ וּבְעַד בֵּית֛וֹ וּבְעַ֥ד כָּל אֲשֶׁר ל֖וֹ מִסָּבִ֑יב מַעֲשֵׂ֤ה יָדָיו֙ בֵּרַ֔כְתָּ וּמִקְנֵ֖הוּ פָּרַ֥ץ בָּאָֽרֶץnonne tu vallasti eum, ac domum ejus, universamque substantiam per circuitum; operibus manuum ejus benedixisti, et possessio ejus crevit in terra?Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
But stretch forth thy hand a little, and touch all that he hath, and see if he blesseth thee not to thy face. וְאוּלָם֙ שְֽׁלַֽח נָ֣א יָֽדְךָ֔ וְגַ֖ע בְּכָל אֲשֶׁר ל֑וֹ אִם לֹ֥א עַל פָּנֶ֖יךָ יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּsed extende paululum manum tuam et tange cuncta quæ possidet, nisi in faciem benedixerit tibi. But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”
Then the Lord said to Satan: Behold, all that he hath is in thy hand: only put not forth thy hand upon his person. And Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.ĐỨC CHÚA phán với Xa-tan: “Được, mọi tài sản của nó thuộc quyền ngươi, duy chỉ có con người của nó là ngươi không được đưa tay đụng tới.” וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל הַשָּׂטָ֗ן הִנֵּ֤ה כָל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ֙ בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ רַ֣ק אֵלָ֔יו אַל תִּשְׁלַ֖ח יָדֶ֑ךָ וַיֵּצֵא֙ הַשָּׂטָ֔ן מֵעִ֖ם פְּנֵ֥י יְהוָֽהDixit ergo Dominus ad Satan: Ecce universa quæ habet in manu tua sunt: tantum in eum ne extendas manum tuam. Egressusque est Satan a facie Domini. The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
