Now king David was old, and advanced in years: and when he was covered with clothes, he was not warm. | Now King David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.
His servants therefore said to him: Let us seek for our lord the king, a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him, and sleep in his bosom, and warm our lord the king. | וַיֹּ֧אמְרוּ ל֣וֹ עֲבָדָ֗יו יְבַקְשׁ֞וּ לַאדֹנִ֤י הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ נַעֲרָ֣ה בְתוּלָ֔ה וְעָֽמְדָה֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וּתְהִי ל֖וֹ סֹכֶ֑נֶת וְשָׁכְבָ֣ה בְחֵיקֶ֔ךָ וְחַ֖ם לַאדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ | Dixerunt ergo ei servi sui: Quæramus domino nostro regi adolescentulam virginem, et stet coram rege, et foveat eum, dormiatque in sinu suo, et calefaciat dominum nostrum regem. | Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young virgin be sought for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”
So they sought a beautiful young woman in all the coasts of Israel, and they found Abisag a Sunamitess, and brought her to the king. | וַיְבַקְשׁוּ֙ נַעֲרָ֣ה יָפָ֔ה בְּכֹ֖ל גְּב֣וּל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיִּמְצְא֗וּ אֶת אֲבִישַׁג֙ הַשּׁ֣וּנַמִּ֔ית וַיָּבִ֥אוּ אֹתָ֖הּ לַמֶּֽלֶךְ | Quæsierunt igitur adolescentulam speciosam in omnibus finibus Israël, et invenerunt Abisag Sunamitidem, et adduxerunt eam ad regem. | So they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
And the damsel was exceeding beautiful, and she slept with the king: and served him, but the king did not know her. | The young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and served him; but the king didn’t know her intimately.
And Adonias the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying: I will be king. And he made himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. | Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
Neither did his father rebuke him at any time, saying: Why hast thou done this? And he also was very beautiful, the next in birth after Absalom. | His father had not displeased him at any time in saying, “Why have you done so?” and he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.
And he conferred with Joab the son of Sarvia, and with Abiathar the priest, who furthered Adonias’s side. | Chàng móc nối với ông Giô-áp, con bà Xơ-ru-gia và với tư tế Ép-gia-tha; họ đã theo phe A-đô-ni-gia. | He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest; and they followed Adonijah and helped him.
But Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Rei, and the strength of David’s army was not with Adonias. | Còn tư tế Xa-đốc, ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa, ngôn sứ Na-than, ông Sim-y, ông Rê-y và các anh hùng của vua Đa-vít, không ai ủng hộ A-đô-ni-gia-hu. | But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
And Adonias having slain rams and calves, and all fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which was near the fountain Rogel, invited all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Juda, the king’s servants: | Khi A-đô-ni-gia-hu sát tế chiên, bò và dê béo gần tảng đá Dô-khe-lét bên cạnh Ên Rô-ghên, thì chàng mời tất cả các hoàng tử anh em mình cùng tất cả nhân sĩ Giu-đa đang phục vụ nhà vua. | καὶ ἐθυσίασεν Ἀδωνειοὺ πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας μετὰ Αἰθὴ τοῦ Ζωελεθεὶ ὃς ἦν ἐχόμενα τῆς Ῥωγήλ, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἁδροὺς Ἰούδα, παῖδας τοῦ βασιλέως· | וַיִּזְבַּ֣ח אֲדֹנִיָּ֗הוּ צֹ֤אן וּבָקָר֙ וּמְרִ֔יא עִ֚ם אֶ֣בֶן הַזֹּחֶ֔לֶת אֲשֶׁר אֵ֖צֶל עֵ֣ין רֹגֵ֑ל וַיִּקְרָ֗א אֶת כָּל אֶחָיו֙ בְּנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וּלְכָל אַנְשֵׁ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה עַבְדֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ | Immolatis ergo Adonias arietibus et vitulis, et universis pinguibus, juxta lapidem Zoheleth, qui erat vicinus fonti Rogel, vocavit universos fratres suos filios regis, et omnes viros Juda servos regis. | Adonijah killed sheep, cattle, and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel; and he called all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants;
But Nathan the prophet, and Banaias, and all the valiant men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not. | Nhưng ngôn sứ Na-than, ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, các anh hùng và cả Sa-lô-môn em chàng, chàng cũng không mời. | but he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.
And Nathan said to Bethsabee the mother of Solomon: Hast thou not heard that Adonias the son of Haggith reigneth, and our lord David knoweth it not? | Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?
Now then come, take my counsel and save thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon. | Bây giờ, này, tôi xin góp ý với bà để bà tự cứu lấy mạng mình và mạng Sa-lô-môn con bà nữa. | וְעַתָּ֕ה לְכִ֛י אִיעָצֵ֥ךְ נָ֖א עֵצָ֑ה וּמַלְּטִי֙ אֶת נַפְשֵׁ֔ךְ וְאֶת נֶ֥פֶשׁ בְּנֵ֖ךְ שְׁלֹמֹֽה | Nunc ergo veni, accipe consilium a me, et salva animam tuam, filiique tui Salomonis. | Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and your son Solomon’s life.
Go, and get thee in to king David, and say to him: Didst not thou, my lord O king, swear to me thy handmaid, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? why then doth Adonias reign? | Go in to King David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then does Adonijah reign?’

So Bethsabee went in to the king into the chamber: now the king was very old, and Abisag the Sunamitess ministered to him. | וַתָּבֹ֨א בַת שֶׁ֤בֶע אֶל הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ הַחַ֔דְרָה וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ זָקֵ֣ן מְאֹ֑ד וַֽאֲבִישַׁג֙ הַשּׁ֣וּנַמִּ֔ית מְשָׁרַ֖ת אֶת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ | Ingressa est itaque Bethsabee ad regem in cubiculum: rex autem senuerat nimis, et Abisag Sunamitis ministrabat ei. | Bathsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.
Bethsabee bowed herself, and worshipped the king. And the king said to her: What is thy will? | Bà Bát Se-va quỳ gối phủ phục trước mặt vua; vua hỏi: “Có chuyện gì thế, ái khanh?” | 17 | She answered and said: My lord, thou didst swear to thy handmaid by the Lord thy God, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne. | וַתֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ אֲדֹנִי֙ אַתָּ֨ה נִשְׁבַּ֜עְתָּ בַּֽיהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ לַֽאֲמָתֶ֔ךָ כִּֽי שְׁלֹמֹ֥ה בְנֵ֖ךְ יִמְלֹ֣ךְ אַחֲרָ֑י וְה֖וּא יֵשֵׁ֥ב עַל כִּסְאִֽי | Quæ respondens, ait: Domine mi, tu jurasti per Dominum Deum tuum ancillæ tuæ: Salomon filius tuus regnabit post me, et ipse sedebit in solio meo. | She said to him, “My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’
And behold now Adonias reigneth, and thou, my lord the king, knowest nothing of it. | Now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and you, my lord the king, don’t know it.

So Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet went down, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi: and they set Solomon upon the mule of king David, and brought him to Gihon. | Tư tế Xa-đốc, ngôn sứ Na-than, ông Bơ-na-gia-hu con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa, cùng với quân Cơ-rê-thi và Pơ-lê-thi đi xuống; họ để hoàng tử Sa-lô-môn cỡi con la cái của vua Đa-vít và đưa hoàng tử xuống Ghi-khôn. | וַיֵּ֣רֶד צָד֣וֹק הַ֠כֹּהֵן וְנָתָ֨ן הַנָּבִ֜יא וּבְנָיָ֣הוּ בֶן יְהוֹיָדָ֗ע וְהַכְּרֵתִי֙ וְהַפְּלֵתִ֔י וַיַּרְכִּ֨בוּ֙ אֶת שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה עַל פִּרְדַּ֖ת הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֑ד וַיֹּלִ֥כוּ אֹת֖וֹ עַל גִּחֽוֹן | Descendit ergo Sadoc sacerdos, et Nathan propheta, et Banaias filius Jojadæ, et Cerethi, et Phelethi: et imposuerunt Salomonem super mulam regis David, et adduxerunt eum in Gihon. | So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.
And Sadoc the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they sounded the trumpet, and all the people said: God save king Solomon. | Tư tế Xa-đốc lấy sừng đựng dầu từ Nhà Lều và xức cho Sa-lô-môn. They blew the trumpet; and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”
And all the multitude went up after him, and the people played with pipes, and rejoiced with a great joy, and the earth rang with the noise of their cry. | וַיַּעֲל֤וּ כָל הָעָם֙ אַֽחֲרָ֔יו וְהָעָם֙ מְחַלְּלִ֣ים בַּחֲלִלִ֔ים וּשְׂמֵחִ֖ים שִׂמְחָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה וַתִּבָּקַ֥ע הָאָ֖רֶץ בְּקוֹלָֽם | Et ascendit universa multitudo post eum, et populus canentium tibiis, et lætantium gaudio magno: et insonuit terra a clamore eorum. | All the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.

When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?” |

| 47 | And the king’s servants going in have blessed our lord king David, saying: May God make the name of Solomon greater than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king adored in his bed: | Quần thần đến chúc mừng vua Đa-vít chúa thượng của chúng ta rằng: ‘Xin Thiên Chúa của ngài làm cho danh Sa-lô-môn rạng ngời hơn danh ngài, cho ngai báu của người vĩ đại hơn ngai báu của ngài.’” Vua phủ phục trên long sàng.
